Saints vs Man City - Build Up

Lighthouse

Recommended Posts

Okay, how about a build up thread which isn't orchestrated by a tedious troll?

I would personally put Fonte back into the centre of defence. Im not entirely sure why he was dropped, unless there was some injury I missed. I'm not sure what other changes need to be made. Cork needs time and patience.

I don't think we will win and we shouldn't be too disheartened if we do lose. Villa was a shock result but everyone gets those. Arsenal lost at home to Villa too, Man Utd lost at home to West Brom and Liverpool lost at home to us.

It's going to be tough, no doubt about it, seeing as we're pulled about by a flurry of injuries. I know Gazza's been chucked in unexpectedly, but he has to speed up his reaction times and be proactive, not reactive, as he was tonight. We're on the ropes a bit, but must come out fighting and be confident in our own ability.

We beat them last season that way and we can do it again.

I can't see anything but a defeat here, City will target our weaknesses and shoot on sight knowing Gazza has let in virtually every shot he has faced this season.

he reminded me of a low Bartoz Bialowski getting up off the ground when Villa scored the third sharing at the ground not wanting to make eye contact with anyone.

saints 1-4 Man City

Would leave Lambert on the bench and get Osvaldo and Rodriguez running directly at Kompany as much as possible. Kompany said in his interview after the West Brom game that he just wanted to keep things simple in that and not try to be a hero (incase of breaking down again with injury?).

Not seen much of Demechellis either, but can't imagine he'd deal too well with being dragged all over the place.

Gonna be difficult to avoid conceding goals against a prolific City side !

My prediction is that Gazza will be Saturday's scapegoat (although Ossie will obviously run him close!!).

i feel really sorry for Gazza, and want him to come good, but has he made a save yet this season?

I think we are starting to see that the title will be 1 from arsenal, city and chelsea.

their quality and obvious squad depth is starting to show. with the CL groups all but over and the the probably purchases in january. I think any points against this lot will be very hard.

man united are terrible by their standards. Everton are very good mind. spurs...have no idea how they will come

liverpool are not different really. Suarez will be gone by the start of next season

then you have the rest. including us.

I think the relegation spots will be out of Palace, Fulham, Sunderland, West ham, Norwich, cardiff and hull. Expect west ham to pull away though

odd to see norwich's super, amazing signings doing poorly

Have faith - we beat Man City last year with a weaker side than the one which will go out on Saturday (despite the injuries).

You'd expect to lose away at Arsenal and Chelsea and let's face it we ran them close..we played well in patches against Villa but got hit my three sucker punch goals. Yes, we defended poorly in places but how many times do you see 3 shots, 3 goals? It's a freak result and everyone gets those.

I have confidence MP will sort out the defence. Let's just get behind the team. 4 defeats from 4 wouldn't be ideal but it looks worse as a stat and not quite as bad when you consider the circumstances. We have not become a bad side in the space of one week and I sincerely hope the players know that (even though many of the usual suspects on here think otherwise).

I think a positive from all of this is that our thinness of squad is showing at just the right time before the transfer window, perhaps persuading the powers that be to hold onto players like Cork, add a decent keeper as backup, and get in some more bodies in positions like left back to avoid resorting to Fox. I think it would be just our style to now get a draw or better v Man City but have put this down as a loss (just like I did with the Villa game - thanks bookies)

I agree but don't expect the wrist slitters to give him even a smidgen of sympathy or encouragement !!

Considering Lovren, dived in and missed for the first, gave the ball away leading to the second and was nowhere in sight for the third what were some people seeing. Nobody criticising him, why not? Or Clyne and Lallana giving the ball away for the first and the third. He had no chance with any of the goals. Anybody who thinks he could have come for the angled cross for the second with two defenders present and probably wouldn't have got there lacks an appreciation of problem for him. He would have been slaughtered. I am confident neither Boruc or Davis would have come for it either.

I'm predicting that the traffic and parking in town will be pretty horrendous. Seem to be roadworks everywhere at the mo, especially at the end of the Itchen Bridge which seems to screw everything up.

And combined with the queues into ikea, looks like an early start and will try to get some christmas shopping done!

Some of the comments above don't seem logical to me. How do you blame Gazz for not having made a save this season when the only opposition he faced produced only 3 (lethal) shots on goal? Most commentators/watchers have agreed he was not to blame for those.

I'm worried about the injuries, esp Wanyama, but Chambers has proved fantastic cover for Clyne, if need be, and Cork was one of our players of the season last time, and is likely to come good with a little more playing time. Osvaldo showing real signs of coming good. What better stage for him than Man City?

Football has a huge chance element. The wailing that's going on here is like criticizing a poker player who loses after going all in with A-K against 4-6. We gave ourselves every chance to win yesterday. Just didn't happen. I think Man C may get a nasty shock Sat.

Wanyama on crutches, Clyne groin problem should both join the long term injury list. What's the diagnosis for Morgan?

What's most worrying is that I noticed Shaw was struggling and only stayed on I think because we had no subs left. He kept stretching and wouldn't run with the ball.

Unfortunately I can see this:

Gazza

Chambers fonte lovren fox

Cork JWP

Rodriguez davis Lallana

Lambert

Cropper

Hooiveld

Yoshida

Reed

Gaston (forced decision)

Osvaldo

Gallagher

Any Saints side without Morgan is weaker than any side with him, he played against City last year so if he doesn't play on Saturday the side will be weaker.

don't know why people keep putting JWP into DM, he can't tackle and his spacial awareness isn't great. That's why MPo doesn't put him there. Cork and Davis if the other 2 are out.

we beat them last season with no wanyama and with fox and jos playing.

saying that, they look excellent now

They do, we played well against them last year, but they were low on confidence and gifted us goals, can't see that happening again.

With a fit and non showboating boruc we could well get a result from this as we've beaten them before, but with the injuries and gazzaniga in goal we will get hammered unfortunately, can't see any other result unless the players out make a miraculous recovery

Considering Villa scored with each attempt yesterday, we'll get hammered.....

Regretaby, you may be right with the form that they are in and coming off a convincing away win and with all our injuries and morale in decline I am very fearful of going up there on Saturday. Could it be a 7-0 drubbing? In normal circumstances 'No' but these are far from being normal circumstances. I wouldn't bet on less than 4 that's for sure. If it turns out that way we're up a gum tree for this campaign.

what you mean 9-0 to City ?

Other way round ;)

I don't know, I just think City can blow hot and cold, especially away from home. I still look at Demecheillis and wonder WTF he's on sometimes, looks an awful defender when turned against pace....so if we deploy Jay up alongside him, we can get some joy. I think we're going to have to score a few though.....
