Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-3 Aston Villa

Just watched the extended highlights on Saints Player. Anyone doubting our attacking performance needs their head checked. Some lovely football and good chances from a variety of sources.

Our main striker (lambert) had zero shots on target all game and touched the ball in the area just twice..........

the 3rd goal was not a 'worldly'

he ran from the half way line to the edge of the box completely unchallenged, any half decent player at premier league level will hit the back of the net with that much time to pick there spot. It was complete ****e defending

Yes it was shocking unfortunately Yoshi was guilty there as well as the first and between him and Gazza neither covered themselves in glory.

More Lamberts fault than anyone else. Good assist from the back post but was very wasteful in good areas last night. Seems reluctant to take a shot these days.

Okay. I would concede he was not one of our sources, but he did get an assist...

EDIT: And could easily have had two more - he played it into Lallana twice for big chances.

I'm afraid I have to disagree on this occasion. Although the stats state we had 9 shots on target, we didn't force Guzan into enough saves for a team that had 77% of the ball. JRod had two decent headed chances, both of which were from quite hopeful looping crosses, and Lallana had one deflected onto the bar, but aside from that we had nowhere near the attacking authority such dominance of possession should entail. Give any of the top 6 close-on 80% of the ball at home, and they are going to put 5 or 6 past you with ease.

Cortese would not see it that way, he also wont like that to compete with the big boys you have to spend millions on a consistent basis, something he wont do or he would have done already.

Unfortunately money doesn't always buy you quality as I think we have seen on at least two occasions relatively recently....... Let's put quality before price for the next signing...

I know I don't count but he did shoot a lot in second half. One was bad shot and other was deflected and other hit wall so that's 3 in one half. My issue with lambert is he doesn't get in enough goal scoring positions anymore.

Definitely going through a poor spell.. maybe Hodgson's disease.. as its off the back of the England caps.

He spends far too much time in deeper positions now; almost as if he does not expect any decent service so goes hunting for it.
