Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-3 Aston Villa

The goalie was guilty for second IMO was 5 yards out!

The goalkeeper had to stay on his line because of the angle of the cross. Fonte was at fault because he wasn't goal side and didn't go for the ball. He had nothing else to do and nobody else to mark so he had to get his head on the ball. He was facing the crosser and failed to read the cross, Kosak was goalside and in front of him.

I don't need to look at the sky sports web site. How many really decent chances did we create?

We Didn't! When Rodriguez got down the left to the bye line in the first half nobody made the run to get into the box for his cross. This happens far too often our forwards just don't make the runs on the off chance just stand still waiting for the pass back to continue trying to walk the ball into the net.

Yep, agreed. Quite a few round me were moaing at Rodriguez for "passing to no-one", when they should have been looking at the players stood still around the edge of the box not gambling to get on the end of what was a decent ball in. We really did become predictable at times last night.

yoshida and gazzaniga were complete ****e, terrible. ok paulo was unlucky with the goals, maybe could've done better with the 2nd, but those 2 were so nervous it spread through the team, every time villa lumped it forward they looked dangerous. Pathetic defending really. Pochettino has to take the blame for picking yoshida, dont fúck about with your 2 CB's that have played so well when you've got your 3rd choice dodgy keeper in goal

"We are great"

"Pochetinno is amazing"

"Cortese is the Don"

"We are amazing"

"Back to back"

"We are great"

"Two in a row"

"We are amazing"

"The Don"

"We are great"

"Rickie goal machine"

"We are amazing"

the 3rd goal was not a 'worldly'

he ran from the half way line to the edge of the box completely unchallenged, any half decent player at premier league level will hit the back of the net with that much time to pick there spot. It was complete ****e defending

I can't add much more to these.

Talking about Luke Shaw, was anybody else a little frustrated with just how unable he is to touch the ball with his right foot at all? He is the most one footed player I've seen. When he cuts inside, he is almost completely unable to release the ball except with a back pass, because he can only swing his left foot. At one point he got turned while in position down the left and ended up being chased almost all the way back into our half because he couldn't release the ball when he was facing the wrong way, it was almost comedic.

When running down the left wing, he's one of the best, but take him inside or turn him and he is utterly lost. He needs to learn to at least take a small touch with his right, it would open his game up a lot more.

Trousers is currently throwing his tea caddy around his bedroom with his mother crying saying she has not seen Neville this upset since The Incredible Hulk was taken off the air in 1989....................................

I don't blame him, I'm pretty sad myself today. I don't like seeing 3 x points squandered either.

And then the Father Christmas comment...too much, too soon!

Go on, you and Pochettino disagree, why do you disagree with our manager? Why do you think we played well, what did we do thats was good enough to warrant our overall game as "good"?

Mauricio Pochettino: "The team put in a great effort tonight. I think they did very well. I can't fault my players. We tried as much as we could, but it just wasn't to be tonight."

Do you mean one of the most one footed players, along with Clyne?

That was the best ball we got into the box last night.

I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen anyone mention the congestion last night. The roads were almost gridlocked coming in from all sides, we got in 5 mins after kick-off and it was obvious from empty seats all over there was a real problem. There were thousands still outside queueing when we got in and loads more making their way to the stadium, they were still piling in after Villa's first.

I've heard it was the referee's decision not to delay kick-off, another 15 mins, like at the Emirates, would have helped.

Really liked Davis last night, it must be so rare when he gives the ball away, unfortunately though him and Ward-Prowse just don't have that X Factor to beat a man when we are struggling.

Yoshida was a rabbit in the headlights, so so poor.

Fair play to Villa though, they had their game plan which was to hit us on the counter. It's something we were weak against last season (Sunderland, QPR and Newcastle spring to mind) and clearly something we haven't improved on this season. With Artur and Morgan in the side I think we would've won, but we played pretty poorly last night and Villa capitalised well on the mistakes we made at the back.

Don't want to come across overly negative, but I don't think we'll win a game until we get Artur back in goal - Gazza is f*cking w*nk. I understand he's young, but he's been directly at fault for conceding two crucial goals in the last two games. I would be tempted to give KD a go in goal when he comes back from injury.

disagree they were not put in' date=' we kept checking back, the 2 times Fonte and Clyne delivered early we scored[/quote']

totally agree. how many times in games do our full backs..well, shaw more than clyne, get to about 40 yards out on their flank and stop, check and pass it inside.

clyne and shaw are both decent crossers of the ball and we should look to do this FAR more than we do.

lambert is a beast in the air with ossie and rodriguez pretty good too.

You can't blame Gazza directly for any of those goals. He was not directly responsible for any of the goals against Chelsea either, unless you are in cloud cuckoo land.

The first one was a cock-up by Yoshida, and then Lovren dived in and got easily side-stepped (I though Agbonlahor was going to square it anyway).

The second was down to Cork, although if you wanted to be really picky you could have said that Gazza could have come off his line and attempted a punch (either the ball or the player).

The third - again Agbonlahor should have been put on his @rse before he passed to Delph, and then Delph should have been closed down - everyone just back-peddled and gave him no option other than belt it.

I saw the game from a different perspective. ie, not seeing it at all! I was at work, and all I knew for 6 hours was the final score.

That was 6 hours of assuming that Gazza had been total crap and the rest of the team just folded.

Although the stats are meaningless to the result, when I finally saw the stats, and then the highlights I was a LOT less despondent. We certainly have a lot of problems with the depth in our squad, but I am satisfied we are on target for a top 10 finish and a lot less worried than I was when I was starved of information.

It's all well and good creating loads of chances, but on the training ground they need to learn how to bury those bloody chances and turn that into serious goal hauls on the pitch. Villa were ripe for a big spanking tonight and we could and should have obliged. Rant over! Other than that lots to be happy about and really looking forward to the tough Xmas fixture pile-up!

On the training ground Gazza is probably in goal.:rolleyes:

Villa c*nts was v.smug at work today. Not a good time to live in birmingham. I tried to make out that I'm only interested in possession stats and that the actual score-line is just a quaint old time tradition of little relevance to modern football, but to be honest i couldn't pull it off

It's no so bad up here, honest. I actual live in a place called Sutton Coldfield, which is like a ghetto in north birmingham where people have car tax + all their own teeth. I have many good nights in town - it is much better than Southampton, but prob not so good as liverpool i grant you.

To be fair I have only a limited experience of the place and have not been there in the centre for years.

1st goal - Can't really blame Gazza for that one. Yoshida was caught completely flat-footed and Dejan couldn't risk taking the man and getting a red, but Gazza could've at least come off his line and made himself big like Artur does in those situations. Maybe not the best plan of action because of the supporting Villa player, but at least put some pressure on the player rather than staying on your line.

2nd goal - I think Artur would have dealt with that a lot better. The header, although a powerful effort, was directly at him. Gazza just palmed it into the net with a weak-wristed attempt to push it away. Artur is a great shot stopper and although I can't say that he definitely would have stopped it from going in straight away, I think he would have at least saved the initial effort.

3rd goal - If Wanyama had been on the field, Delph wouldn't have even gotten near the penalty area. Nothing Gazza could do about that one.

The 2 goals I referred to in my initial post that I feel Gazza was at fault for are Kozak's yesterday and Ba's on Sunday. Whether it's a lack of match practice or just nerves, I don't know. He developed a reputation for making errors last time he had a run in the team, and I can't really see that changing any time soon.

One thing is clear to me - we need to sign a goalkeeper in January even if Artur is back and fully fit again. Somebody who can cover for injuries and not put worry amongst the team or fans.

I disagree, he would have been moving forward and should have gone for it. He was also off balance, on his heels, when the header came in, which is why he couldn't get anything meaningful on the ball, he was going backwards, indecisive, and in no mans land.
