Saint-Armstrong Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Saints go behind twice and claw it back, but a Delph belter wins it for Villa. Crazy result. Felt Gazzaniga could've done more with the 2nd but other than that, was not helped by Yoshida and Lovren. Jack Cork? Very poor IMO. Same for Maya. If Wanyama had the game Cork just had, there would be an inquisition right now.
BotleySaint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Our style of play has been well and truly found out. Let's hope we have a plan B for Saturday.
Asaint4ever Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 what i find annoying is we lost to a very poor side! they was gash!
Pastor Patrón Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Disgraceful result against an awful side. We desperately need more depth to the squad and a better striker.
Batman Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 lost to a worldy and poor defending lambert, cork and yoshida were terrible lallana was good as was davis we are still 7th LOL a poor run was always going to happen. guess its now
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 bubble has burst!! toothless, gutless and no imagination in the final 3rd Very disappointing as Villa were shocking!! Thank jesus for the easy start, but its masked our weaknesses and got peeps hopes up No plan b and thats a big worry
Dalek2003 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 what i find annoying is we lost to a very poor side! they was gash! Yes. Much harder to take than the defeat to Arsenal and Chelski. Hope this is not the start of the 'rot'
DuncanRG Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Incredibly frustrating result, can hardly believe we lost. Despite a few defensive errors and less than progressive play in midfield we deserved to win and on any other day we would have done. Oh well, need to keep our heads cause it's City next.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 At least I won £100 I suppose. Need to be more clinical, and need better than Yoshida as a backup CB.
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Our style of play has been well and truly found out. Let's hope we have a plan B for Saturday. Not really, our style of play resulted in us having far more possession and chances. A couple of individual errors by players who've had limited game time this season. We haven't got a top 4 squad and it showed tonight.
lloydie Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 bubble has burst!! toothless, gutless and no imagination in the final 3rd Very disappointing as Villa were shocking!! Thank jesus for the easy start, but its masked our weaknesses and got peeps hopes up No plan b and thats a big worry Zzzzzzzz
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Buggeration. Not good. Thought this was the one amongst 3 other very tough games we'd get something from. Now we need something from a City side who are starting to fire.
Ewell Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 I just knew we would lose this one as it had all the hallmarks. The fans and the players seem to think we just have to turn up to beat a side like Villa, WRONG!
Wrensup Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 I'm glad the players were pizzed off, shows they care. Need to play with width from the beginning. Gazzaniga was unfortunate to have yoshida in front of him. Clyne better not be serious.
pangy Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 That was painful to watch, having 70% possesion is great if you are scoring goals. J-Rod is looking more and more lively,I would be tempted to play him in a more central role
Zlavik Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 No Morgan or Boruc = We will lose. Cork is not up to it. Gazza is not up to it. With Morgan on the pitch and Boruc in the goal we would never have lost this game. Also we would have needed Fonte as CB instead of Uselesshida. **** this.
Dazza82 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Yoshida was at fault for 2 of there goals. Lovren and Cork both give the ball away within seconds of each other leading to other. If Wanyama was on Delph wouldnt of scored that 3rd. Too many errors has cost us this game, Dominated but lost!!
Miltonaggro Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Such a shame as we have been a force against the best the division has to offer - this is purely down to squad depth and gaps in the transfer policy that the majority of posters on here have identified for months...
Dr. Kucho Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Frustrated, nothing more to say really. 3 mistakes gifted them the goals, though that last one from them was a very good goal, Gazza not to blame for any of the goals. With the possesion and room Villa gave us we should have done much more, and Chambers (was he on the bench?) should have replaced Clyne, not Fonte. Think some of the first team players are starting to feel tired and need a rest.
NewYorkSaint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 If you replayed that game 10 times, we would win the other 9. There were long spells where we were playing brilliantly. But the defensive frailty w/o Boruc (and with a game-starved Yoshida) is certainly alarming. Hard to account for wonder goals, though. City on Saturday will be huge.
Wrensup Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 bubble has burst!! toothless, gutless and no imagination in the final 3rd Very disappointing as Villa were shocking!! Thank jesus for the easy start, but its masked our weaknesses and got peeps hopes up No plan b and thats a big worry Tad dramatic there...
Dazza82 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 . Clyne better not be serious. If it is Chambers will be ok
Saint-Beer Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Must admit, can't believe we lost that game. They barely touched the ball and the chances they had went it. Just one of those nights. I thought we played alright. Did miss the presence of big Vic but not too many poor performances other than Maya and maybe cork.
Sheaf Saint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Been out and only got back for the last 5 minutes. Seems as though we actually played pretty well and deserved to win but got mugged. It's football - that happens. Anybody remember away at Villa last season when we won thanks to a dodgy penalty? What about the Leeds game in our Championship season?
alpine_saint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Scratch the surface below our first XI (even assuming they are all at the top of the game, which they arent currently), we have no squad depth. We are simply not good enough or deep enough to sustain a challenge Really disappointing turn to the season
Baird of the land Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Well at least Osvaldo got a goal. Other than that a very disappointing result. We're going to have to make it harder for City to score at the weekend or we could leak shed loads.
ottery st mary Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Back to a settled side as soon as injuries permit. Still hopeful we can pull ourselves together for Saturday. We clearly should have taken this game tonight... Onwards and upwards. COYS
Golac's Iron Gonads Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 11 days ago we could have gone top with a fluke win at Arsenal, look at the gap now. Things have changed quickly, played decently enough and could have won but for a wonder goal. Squad looking thin for a top 6 side, but then we aren't a top 6 side but we are heading that way.
Barry Sanchez Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Can we get those threads up from a few weeks ago? The happy ones will be blushing, my prediction does not change we shall be 9th 10th with Cortese having to spend £100 million to progress in to the European places, that aint gonna happen.
Northernsaint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Disagree about Cork was good and did nothing wrong bar the cock up for the second. People need to stop jumping off cliffs. We have lost a game that we should have won. Away at Chelsea and Away at Arsenal is about damage limitation 0pts and - 4 goals was mission accomplished. We were undone by three acts of complacency on the ball.
DanW Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Think some of the first team players are starting to feel tired and need a rest. If this is the case, the holiday fixtures are going to destroy us.
geoffnut Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 A real test ahead for the manager now, but he is being let down by the players. Let's hope that is our bad run over, but I very much doubt it.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Hope this is a wake up to mopo and NC! If we are serious about top 4/6/8/10 we need more players not just youth.
Dark Munster Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 I can see why Villa have such a good away record. Smash and grab experts. Aided and abetted by Yoshida.
badgerx16 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 "......this is purely down to squad depth and gaps in the transfer policy that the majority of posters on here have identified for months.." Strange that the managerial staff have failed to do so. What are we paying them for ?
Dazza82 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 No plan b and thats a big worry Thought MP had two different plans then. Bringing Osvaldo on in 1st half. Playing 3-4-3 in the end only errors have cost us, you can not plan for that
Dalek2003 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 If you replayed that game 10 times, we would win the other 9. There were long spells where we were playing brilliantly. But the defensive frailty w/o Boruc (and with a game-starved Yoshida) is certainly alarming. Hard to account for wonder goals, though. City on Saturday will be huge. Think the City game is about damage limitation tbh
Badger Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Back to a settled side as soon as injuries permit. That though might not be until after Christmas though.
JoeShmoe Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 bubble has burst!! toothless, gutless and no imagination in the final 3rd Very disappointing as Villa were shocking!! Thank jesus for the easy start, but its masked our weaknesses and got peeps hopes up No plan b and thats a big worry Utter rubbish and as usual the usual 'three' overreact and wet the bed We're seventh, were above Man U and Spurs and were going through a rough patch Now is the time to support the team but between now and the next game you three will put up ten thousand posts of guff about bad signings, etc How about you enjoy our most successful season we've had for donkeys years ?
Mr X Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 does the fact weve conceded eight goals in three games worry anyone?
Dalek2003 Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Can we get those threads up from a few weeks ago? The happy ones will be blushing, my prediction does not change we shall be 9th 10th with Cortese having to spend £100 million to progress in to the European places, that aint gonna happen. 10th ? That would be a great finish !!!!!
dan abnormal Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Got mugged, a few good counters mixed with some poor defending. We created chances but lacked urgency. Cork and Yoshida both looked very rusty. We're still 8th after 3 consecutive losses so a little perspective is needed imo
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 The performance was decent, even if we did lack a little imagination in the final third against a deep defence. Against teams who sit back sometimes I feel like our best chances of scoring are just when we win the ball back or when we just lump it in the box. However, there were many issues tonight: 1. We knew the squad was a little thin on quality and we saw that tonight - the selection of Yoshida couldn't be justified whatsoever and that is a mistake from Pochettino. 2. Wanyama needs to be dropped - he was growing on me but tonight he was awful. How can he keep on making the same mistakes? I don't mind mistakes but I hate when players do not learn. He is young and relatively inexperienced but he comes with a price tag. 3. Why is Chambers on the bench if when Clyne gets injured we put on a centre-half in his place?
DuncanRG Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Not to alarm anyone, but City's away form has picked up a little as well. Winning 3-0 at the Hawthorns...
Pastor Patrón Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Was Fonte carrying a knock? Since Yoshida pretty much singlehandedly lost us that game?
Edmonton Saint Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Gazzaniga nowhere near good enough at this level. As I said in the match thread, you need your goalkeeper to make saves from shots that you don't expect them to (Boruc home vs Swansea this year for instance) In the near game and enough that Gazzaniga has played this season, he has not made one worthwhile save..All I keep hearing is he can't do anything about the goals, that's rubbish, a goalkeepers job is to do something about the goals. Not just judging him on this season, but on last season as well when he made little to no saves of worth in the games he played. As Kelvin is also a disaster waiting to happen, I fear for us. My worst nightmare was Boruc getting injured, and it seems my doomsday scenario is coming to pass.
Barry Sanchez Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Utter rubbish and as usual the usual 'three' overreact and wet the bed We're seventh, were above Man U and Spurs and were going through a rough patch Now is the time to support the team but sail between now and the next game you three will put up ten thousand posts of guff about bad signings, etc How about you enjoy our most successful season we've had for donkeys years ? You see how successful the season is at the end of it.
maxi_sopez Posted 4 December, 2013 Posted 4 December, 2013 Freakish result... Wonder goal killed it. Played well. Wannt to be gutted but to be honest this result looks far worse with the 2 games before. Just an unfortunate run of fixtures. Probably will lose to city, but nothing to get upset about! Players showed they gave a sh!t at the end as well. no worries, no anger, COYR
