EBS1980 Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 So the BBC have announced their nominations for the young sports personalty of the year award. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-personality/25184105 How does Januzaj get nominated?!? He has played a couple of games for Man U and that is deemed enough. Surely they should be backing english youngsters, like Shaw or JWP?!?
Saint_clark Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 That is absurd. Smacks of including a footballer for the sake of it.
a1ex2001 Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 I really wish they would drop the 'personality' from the title and replace it with 'celebrity' as the requirement for personality was dropped years ago! The young person shortlist is laughable, it seems they want to have a token footballer on it each year and this year the list was drawn up the week Januzaj was the savior of English football. Mowgli Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 To me it just trivialises the whole award scheme. Complete waste of money and very little credibility. Lets judge on the PFA Awards.

Didn't Bale win? I'm not sure we can make a fuss in subsequent years when we were lauding this decision previously.

Wrensup Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 Absolute joke of a decision. ANyone know how the nomination process works? I had a quick google search and couldn't come up with anything. It's actaully a joke. If all it constitutes is a few games and a couple of goals, then loads of players could be up for an award, asides from our players the like of Ravel Morrison. Ramsey is still youngish for!l fooks sake
Hatch Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 Absolute joke of a decision. ANyone know how the nomination process works? YOUNG SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR This will be awarded to the outstanding young sportsperson aged 17 or under on 1 January 2013, selected from nominations made to the BBC and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust. Nominations close early November. People are eligible to win the award if they are the right age and they are citizens of Britain or Northern Ireland or all three of the following criteria: - They play a significant amount of their sport in the UK; - Their core achievements that year were achieved in the UK, and not with a national team (in which case they would more likely qualify for the Overseas award); - They are residents in the UK. Judging panel BBC Sport's John Inverdale chairs a panel which includes three representatives of Youth Sport Trust, a number of former winners of the award, Blue Peter presenter Radzi Chinyanganya and Blue Peter Sports Champion Daniel Allen, Radio 1's Tina Daheley, and the executive editor and editor of Sports Personality of the Year. so decision is made by a couple of 15 yr old TV presenters who have probably never been near a stadium of any kind in their life. S-Clarke Posted 3 December, 2013 Share Posted 3 December, 2013 Talk about jumping on the bandwagon. He had 1 good game. He's now slipped back to being a substitute, as teams have now worked out how to counter him. It took him a few weeks to get himself out of Clynes pocket as well. I found all the clamor after those 2 goals (against an horrific Sunderland team, too) a little embarrassing. ''Omg, Spain want him, no Germany do, no Croatia do, no Holland, England want him!!''. He might turn out to be a decent player, but the way he's sort of faded away in the last few weeks kinds of suggests they've gone a little bit over the top, just because he plays for Manchester United. I remember a similar reaction to that of Fredrico Mechada when he made his debut and got the winner, he was the next big thing apparently. 2 years later, he's at Doncaster.
