Lighthouse Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 why is it a must win? Because he is a troll who has 'predicted' defeat before every game for a couple of years now. Another strong candidate for the ignore list. Villa are better than last year but nothing particularly special. We matched Chelsea for 55 minutes even if they did have more chances. Boric will be a loss but not irreplaceable. Gazza now has a month to prove we don't need another keeper in January, assuming he keeps his place of course.
James Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I would say we all calm down, take a breath and accept that Gazzaniga is our goal keeper for the next 5-6 matches. How about supporting our players? rather than constantly trying to find scapegoats. There's a difference between supporting the players and knowing that a player is not up to performing consistently at the top level. My gripe is with the club for not getting a better back up in - everyone has known for weeks that if Boruc got injured we'd be in serious trouble.

But we have no choice but to get behind what we already have?
James Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 But we have no choice but to get behind what we already have? I am sure that everyone is willing him to succeed but that doesn't mean we can't express our doubts about his ability - I mean, let's face it he should definitely have saved their third goal (I admit coming on against Chelsea isn't the easiest reintroduction).
Wrensup Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 No one has seem him play properly for a year? Maybe just maybe.... I know it's hard to comprehend this.... but maybe, and I say maybe, he might of improved over the last year? Especially when he's been working with someone like Boruc?
Wiggles31 Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Very winnable game. Think we need to get behind Gazza, the lad needs confidence and has shown some promise. Will probably see Davis and Lambert in for Osvaldo and JWP. Would like to see Cork get a chance in the 6 games.
BlakeySFC Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 like staying up wont happen? No idea at this stage, but think this season will be much tougher than many on here are expecting, including (possibly) a relegation battle.
Wrensup Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 But maybe not on letting soft goals in... Hardly soft...
Saint_Tony Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 5/1 on Villa is massive, have invested profits from today on it. Without Boruc I would be very surprised if we get a result. 2-1 Villa
lickierambert Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Teams Villa have lost away to in the league since October 2012: Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal This won't be easy at all
corky morris Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 You watch them fire balls into the box high for Benteke to out muscle us. Set plays very important for both sides. Lambert & Cork in for Osvaldo & JWP for me. Got this horrible feeling we will draw.
Jack Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Gazza Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Wanyama JWP Davis Lallana Rodriguez Lambert Weaker, but defend well and we can win.

Where have you been all season? Wake up!!!!!!!! He didn't make the squad at Chelsea; what on earth makes you think he's now going to start against Villa? If your reply is simply that this would be your team, again, on what possible basis can you justify Ramirez playing ahead of Lambert, JWP and Davis based on form this season? It's time we all moved on from thinking Ramirez is in MP's plans; he clearly isn't.
Junior Mullet Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Not a must win game, but a pivotal game nonetheless. It will suggest how we will fare without Boruc and how well we bounce back from defeats. After the game Wednesday we could still be flying high, full of confidence going into the weekend's game against City playing down the significance of the Arsenal and Chelsea games. On the other hand we could be lamenting the club's failure to get convincing cover for Boruc, crying over new injuries and our lack of squad depth and our ineffective attack. Personally I think we will do well against Villa. They have improved since last year but are still beatable. I think our style, if we turn it on as we did vs Hull, will see us win by two clear goals. I also think the defence will keep a clean sheet.
Wrensup Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Although this would prevent the world ending as he won't collide with Yaya Toure The world ending is a small price to pay to witness this moment of the immovable object meeting the unstoppable force! Haha
CanadaSaint Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 a bigger nightmare will be is if wanyama gets booked in the week and misses out against city also That's my worry. I actually rather wanted him to get booked yesterday because I'd rather be without him for Villa than Man City, and - with his style - he's always a booking waiting to happen. But then Morgan went off and raised the possibility of us being without both of them for Man City. Cringe.

Restark19 Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 physio room has boruc down as being out until the 11th of Jan
Nessy7 Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Gazza Clyne Lovren Fonte Shaw Wanyama Cork J-Rod Davis Lallana Lambert Cropper Yoshida Ramirez Osvaldo Davis JWP Chambers Start with Davis as part of the three to ensure there’s a bit of tooth to our game. Should we be able to settle into the rhythm that we like to play, then potentially look at bringing Ramirez or Osvaldo on to inject a spark should we require. I think as much as Gazza needs to take this opportunity, I think Cork deserves a chance to show Pochettino that he should be in his plans. As someone above mentions, Schneiderlin is a big loss that could disrupt the make up of our team. Should Cork be able to replicate this effect (as I believe he is capable of doing, as is Gazza given a bit of support and confidence) then I do not think there will be the panic that many (including myself) had at the end of the game yesterday. I agree that our squad perhaps requires more depth, which should come the longer Pochettino has to look in the transfer markets, but I think with the injuries at the moment, we will be able to get through to January where either our plays can return, or we can dip in to the market.
Georgie Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 physio room has boruc down as being out until the 11th of Jan Six weeks after yesterday's game, so just going on current media reports. That means he misses at least 7 league games plus the FA Cup game. Will possibly also miss the game on the 11th if he isn't back in full training that week.

Don't goalkeeper shortages count as emergency loans? Any chance?
melmacian_saint Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Don't goalkeeper shortages count as emergency loans? Any chance? They do if we had one. However, we at least 2 other keepers with a first team number, so no chance.
Window Cleaner Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 (edited) They do if we had one. However, we at least 2 other keepers with a first team number, so no chance. Depends on KD's status, if he's injured or ill as his absence on Sunday and last week would tend to suggest then we're down to one first team keeper. I've no idea of Cropper's status so perhaps we have to count him as "active" as well. Edited 2 December, 2013 by Window Cleaner
110_Persaint Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 (edited) Would save Big Vic for the City game, need him most then (you just KNOW if he plays on Weds he'll get booked and get himself suspended). Villa not that physical of a side. Must learn to adapt to avoid unwanted suspensions. We'd get completely walloped by a free-scoring Man City team if Wanyama misses out.

RobM Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Gazza in for Boruc Davis in for Morgan No other changes. We need to 'remind' ourselves that losing to Chelsea away doesn't mean we're bad and we're still the same, winning, confident team as before. We also need to show we're good, supportive fans by supporting Gazza. He might not be our first choice, but he's ours and will be doing his best for us.

No need for wholesale changes at all.
Baird of the land Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Davis in for Boruc if he is available. Otherwise Gazzaniga. Cork has to come in for Schneiderlin. Davis for JWP Lambert for Osvaldo

110_Persaint Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 Agree with this. No need for wholesale changes at all. Disagree. We've been absolutely inept the last two games, at least in an attacking sense. MoPo's tactics have been found out and he should be smart enough to admit that to himself and shake things up a bit.
Roger Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 If play Ramirez. I think we are struggling in am attacking sense and need to try something new.
Barry the Badger Posted 2 December, 2013 Posted 2 December, 2013 If play Ramirez. I think we are struggling in am attacking sense and need to try something new. Yeah, if only we'd scored four in our last home game.

Georgie Posted 3 December, 2013 Posted 3 December, 2013 Gazzaniga it is then for at least tomorrow's game. I guess Cropper on bench. Davis in for Morgan. And hope Wanyama doesn't pick up a yellow tomorrow, otherwise Man City game will not be pretty without our first choice centre midfield.

If Poch doesn't fancy gaston, then no point wasting ours and his further time. Plenty of interest around if situation were to progress. If Osvaldo doesn't click, then replace too. Although having a solid preseason together can potentially work wonders. Let's see. As long as we finish top 7 this season, am happy
Cabrone Posted 3 December, 2013 Posted 3 December, 2013 If KD is out how good is Cropper, could he do a job for us? I really have little faith in Gazza, makes the odd good save but always looks like he's going to drop a clanger. Hopefully against Villa it won't be critical but he's not up to it. Would be very interesting to see Ramirez and Osvaldo paired up, got a feeling those two could combine well.
