ALWAYS_SFC Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Come on Saints, show everyone how we bounce back
S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Villa aren't as bad as they were last year, but they're still not much cop. Benteke up top will be their biggest threat, but we *should* be able to create against their defense. Would go with Lambert up top with Lallana, Jay...and get this for a bit of a shake up, Gaston in behind, as that Villa home game last year was his highlight saints moment. It won't happen though. I'd pop JWP in CM alongside Wanyama, assuming Morgan is out.
Georgie Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Really need to bounce back, especially with Man City looming. Need to win these type of games to finish in the top half

S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Surely cork should play? Doubt he'll play to be honest, don't think MP fancies him a great deal.

Gaston has been failing to make the match day 18 recently, I suspect his career here might already be over.
studentsaint Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 According to the premier league table, this is out 2nd hardest home fixture so far, close to the tigers. After today's result I felt optimistic, we've played arsenal, Chelsea, united and Liverpool away and have all the big boys at home. Should beat villa with this team: Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw VW Schneiderlin Lallana J rod Osvaldo Lambert Let's see what osvaldo can do at home where we have possesion and numbers forward.
melmacian_saint Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Thankfully this one comes soon enough after the last 2 weeks. I wouldn't change the team a lot as we haven't particularly performed terribly against better opposition and in a game where we can have some dominance it's important to give the players the chance to do so.

I'd go with this if Boruc and Morgan are fit, which I doubt, and have a right go at Villa from the off. If not I guess it's Gazza and JWP to step in.
Tom28 Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I thought Osvaldo started today's game quite brightly but faded badly. I would be surprised if Boruc and Schneiderlin were a available for Wednesday so I would start the game like this: Gazzaniga; Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw; Wanyama Cork; JWP Davis JRod Lambert Subs: Cropper, Chambers, Hooiveld, Reed, Lallana, Osvaldo, Gallagher Only reason for Lallana is that he apparently didn't train much this week, is carrying a knock, and I thought that showed today. He's automatic first choice when fit but I don't think our way of playing can sustain players not at 100%. With him on the bench you have the impact sub.
scotsaintsfan Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I'm making the trip down from Scotland on Wednesday morning for this match, hopefully I will witness a Saints win Bounce back with a bang !
Turkish Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 My first home game of the season. Will be tough, villa have only lost once on their travels this season, seem hard to beat so could easily see this one being a draw. Hope Boruc and Schniderlin are fit.
dan abnormal Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Lovren will have Benteke in his pocket all afternoon. Don't fancy our chances if Boruc isn't fit. The only change I would make is Lambert back in.
Saint Garrett Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 This one worries me a bit. Theyrr good away, we've lost two in a row. Big characters needed to bounce back. I really hope Boruc is back and Morgan is fit? (Not heard what is up with him?) For me: Boruc: Clyne Lovren Fonte Shaw: Wanyama Morgan/Cork: Jrod Lallana Jwp: Lambert
Saint Garrett Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 if we dont win. will we turn on MP? Why what's he done????
BlakeySFC Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Now a must win game. Got no confidence in Gazzanigga. 0-2 Villa.
Batman Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Now a must win game. Got no confidence in Gazzanigga. 0-2 Villa. why is it a must win?
Georgie Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Well apparently Boruc has a broken hand (Thevman on other thread). So stuck with Gazzaniga for about 6 weeks. Horror show
Batman Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Well apparently Boruc has a broken hand (Thevman on other thread). So stuck with Gazzaniga for about 6 weeks. Horror show on the face of it, horrific. this is his chance. good keepers take these chances. if not, his future will not be at saints I feel
BlakeySFC Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 why is it a must win? Got some very difficult games coming up (Man City at home, Newcastle away, Spurs at home, Everton away) personally don't think we'll get many points out of that lot so it's imperative we get something against Villa on Wednesday night otherwise we could be looking at 7 losses in a row to round out the year.

Batman Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 True, but it won't happen. like staying up wont happen?
DT Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Downgrading this to a loss on the Boruc news. We'd be equally screwed if Shaw got an injury. Squad too thin to make a challenge. Need new keeper in Jan as backup

Need new keeper in Jan as backup didnt we beat man city at home with fox and jos playing? didnt we beat villa last season with jos, gazza and fox (for half the game) playing?
DT Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I think they're a better team now, post-Mancini. Personally I hope we investigate an emergency loan for a keeper Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Matthew Le God Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Shay Given He joined Middlesbrough 3 days ago... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25143739

Georgie Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Surely we can't get an emergency loan. Even with Davis injured we have Gazzaniga and Cropper. Anyway wasn't Davis was in training this week so surely recovered now.
DT Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I don't really get your point (other than being a bit aggressive). Do you mean you disagree that he'd be good for us? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I mean, none of those you suggest are available. no one we will get in will likely be fit enough/good enough in a week
S-Clarke Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I would say we all calm down, take a breath and accept that Gazzaniga is our goal keeper for the next 5-6 matches. How about supporting our players? rather than constantly trying to find scapegoats.
DT Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Well, yes, up to a point. But I'm a bit worried about Gazza being up to it. Hope I'm proved wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk well, cant see any other way than we will find out. the whole club is about letting young players have their chance. Gazza was found out last year. now we will see if he is good enough to have a career at this club

Matthew Le God Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 Brad Freidel Why would Spurs loan out their second choice keeper? They need a sub keeper themselves.

Batman Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 a bigger nightmare will be is if wanyama gets booked in the week and misses out against city also
DT Posted 1 December, 2013 Posted 1 December, 2013 I was surprised Cork wasn't given a chance against his old club. But yes, Wanyama is big part of our defensive strength. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
