niceandfriendly Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 Perhaps he'll go and score goals and return to us when he's playing well? He is still very young, and a damn good player when on form (despite what some overweight, balding expert sitting on his arse in the Austrian mountains thinks) so still lots of time to turn it around with Saints. Shame if he does go off on loan, especially as now that there aren't any International matches until March (not gospel just quoting somebody else!!), that has seen him jetting off around the globe for WC qualifiers every 2 weeks or so!! A good chance to get himself sorted out and establish himself back into the squad. Lots of matches coming up next month where injuries and suspensions could kick in pretty fast. Lets remember he didn't do the pre season warm up with us and due to injury and WC duty has barely had anytime to train with us week in week out. an uninterrupted run of training with us might get him up to speed. Blue line, fresh start for me. If by Jan, still no improvement proceed with loan / sell, but it would be foolish to go ahead until we can geta replacement in. Player wise Cristián Zapata looked very good at CB - I saw him play alot for Villarreal and Udinese before he joined ACM and this boy has talent! saint-crinny Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 A real shame when he moves on in my opinion as he has shown in glimpses that he is an excellent technical player (eg. great tekkers for his League Cup this season) and can really make an impact in games - Aston Villa and Newcastle home games spring to mind from last year. unfortunately, he just hasn't done it enough to date and with MP's style now clearly imprinted on the team, he doesn't seem to fit the bill either, unless he showed a real change in attitude towards the work he does when we haven't got the ball. Disappointing as he was such a marquee signing for us that I couldn't really believe we had pulled off at the time - probably shouldn't underestimate that impact in terms of paving the way for the likes of Lovren, Wanyama and Osvaldo this year. If he goes, we definitely need to replace him - in contrast to MP's recent chat about not getting involved in the January transfer window
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 As I have mentioned a number of times, Moussa Dembele should be the type of player we are looking to bring in. Spurs aren't using him regularly so a cheeky bid would be good. Real shame about Gaston, but obviously Mopo doesn't rate him. I have no doubt if Nige was still here that he'd be playing, but we also wouldn't be anywhere near where we are in the League.

VectisSaint Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 If he goes, we definitely need to replace him - in contrast to MP's recent chat about not getting involved in the January transfer window Why do we need to replace him if he goes? He does not fit the system so he (and his ilk, i.e a #10) are surplus to requirements. We do not need a replacement for him. It could be argued according to the article that Osvaldo is his replacement. If you mean we need another player in the squad then I assume that will be covered by a youngster. hence why Poch has said we will not be delving into the market in January. westofshannonsaint Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 Not sure if posted elsewhere... http://web.orange.co.uk 22 November 2013, 9:46 Ramirez staying - Pochettino Mauricio Pochettino insists Gaston Ramirez will not be leaving Southampton in January and has warned him to "work hard to be part of the team". The Uruguayan has yet to justify his £12million price tag after arriving from Bologna in the summer of 2012 and reports suggest he is growing unsettled at St Mary's. Ramirez's representative has previously suggested the player did not like Pochettino and this week suggested Inter Milan were interested in the attacking midfielder - talk the Saints boss played down ahead of Saturday's trip to Arsenal. "Gaston knows perfectly what I think and I know what he thinks," he said. "That's a private matter between us. He is fully obliged to fulfil his contract. "That's all he has to do as a Southampton player. He has to work in order to fulfil that contract and be part of the team."

Lord Duckhunter Posted 27 November, 2013 Share Posted 27 November, 2013 Sell him or make him sit on the bench no loans thanks ! Time to get rid, a complete and utter waste of money. No matter how hard people try and justify his ability, still harking back to 2 performances against poor Newcastle and villa peformances, he has been a complete and utter wash out. He's going to become the new Antonio or Billy Sharpe getting better and better in peoples minds the less he plays. If he goes on loan, we'll get the predictable calls for him to return, as if he's some sort of messiah. The bloke struggled when he came, struggled to get in the side and is now even struggling to make the match day squad. It used to be his age, then he was new to English football, then Nigel didn't know how to use him , now mp "doesn't like him", he's travelling a lot for world cup qualification games,he doesn't suit our system. Perhaps we should run a sweepstake on what the next excuse will be. People should take off the rose coloured glasses and accept he's not very good and that's why he can't get a game. Lets get rid,get as much money as the mugs are wiling to pay and move on.

Why the hell do we spend good money on players that have to travel thousands of miles each year to be available for their national sides is beyond me,you could justify it if he was doing the business for us like Suarez does for Liverpool but he isn't,he spends most of his time sitting in the stands,on the bench or in an aeroplane seat. Good luck to the buying club.

Good luck to the buying club. He is far from crap and certainly not lazy. It's such an easy thing to say about a #10 that they are "lazy", but if you have actually watched him you can see he isn't. Yes, it's debatable whether he fits our system now, I'm starting to think there isn't a role for him in our style of play under MP. And yes, he hasn't delivered fully since he's been here, which is disappointing - as he is clearly a talented footballer, far from 'crap'. Despite this, he still contributed a higher combined tally of goals and assists last season than Jason Puncheon (in less games), and matched that of Adam Lallana (again in less games). I think he probably will move on sooner or later, and this move hasn't worked out for him as hoped, but this crap, lazy, lethargic stuff is just utter nonsense. Tom & Gerry Posted 28 November, 2013 Share Posted 28 November, 2013 It really doesn't matter if any of us think Gaston is not a good enough player because Southampton Football Club clearly think he is, otherwise a) they wouldn't have bought him or b) they would have sold him in the summer. It is therefore up to not just Gaston but also the coaching staff to realize the potential they think he has. How long do you give a player in this situation with this price tag? Some do not have much patience. I imagine some Spurs fans would have wanted rid of Gareth Bale when they were losing every time he played. It took him a while. I reckon 2 seasons is probably enough. With the number of games coming up he will surely get some game time soon and who knows he may make the doubters eat their words. If not I would sell in the summer. Lets hope Uruguay do well. Had Harry Redknapp signed Gaston for QPR and he played for them like he played for us, would you be sticking up for him quite as much? I suggest that the majority opinion would be that old Arry had been mugged off, or had some sort of deal with his agent. I bet you cant find many neutrals who share the over inflated opinion of Gaston that some on here have. Puncheon isn't good enough either, so I don't know what he's got to do with anything.
