Is there any chance he could be one of the nominees? From Beetroot Factory to England/Premier League. One of football's good guys.

A sporting good news story of the year IMO.

Ha! Though I suppose it has been a fairly poor year of sport for the country (especially compared to last year) so you never know. That said, even as a Saints fan it's hard to see Rickie deserving nomination.

ALso reckon we have a chance for team of the year and MP for coach of the year. Les Reed to win the outstanding contribution to soccerball for his work with us and for helping write the coaching manual for ENGLAND in 2002.

The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year.

Is there really a difference? Personality is about the way you act, people's favourite sports person is based on the way that sportsman acts. Some people want their SPOTY winners to be "nice" or "friendly", I like Andy Murray because he gets properly ****ed off when he loses, like a normal person.

There is more to sport than just elite winners, sport is about doing your best and striving to continually improve yourself and Rickies 'journey' is a perfect example of that. Not SPOTY but worth an honourable mention.

No. Andy Murray is nailed on to win despite his lack of personality

I do hope that was in jest. If not, please look up alternative meanings for the word personality.

Why?

Id like to see a nomination for Lampard too - 100 caps and great career

Because he'll be nominated for nothing other than captaining England to world cup qualification, which was the bare minimum of expectation anyway.

If Murray hadn't won Wimbledon then the BBC would have probably cancelled it this year.

Murray won Wimbledon

Froome won le Tour

Farah was double world champion

Lions won for the first time in many years

Ashes series success

"fairly poor year of sport for the country"

PLEASE!!!!!!!!
