jawillwill Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Is there any chance he could be one of the nominees? From Beetroot Factory to England/Premier League. One of football's good guys. A sporting good news story of the year IMO.
moonraker Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Sadly I fear not, it would be great call.
LainPain Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Ha! Though I suppose it has been a fairly poor year of sport for the country (especially compared to last year) so you never know. That said, even as a Saints fan it's hard to see Rickie deserving nomination.
Turkish Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 ALso reckon we have a chance for team of the year and MP for coach of the year. Les Reed to win the outstanding contribution to soccerball for his work with us and for helping write the coaching manual for ENGLAND in 2002.
moonraker Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 No, because he hasn't won anything and really isn't all that good on many an occasion. The prize will go to some obscure cyclist or distance runner...you know who I mean.
LainPain Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year. Is there really a difference? Personality is about the way you act, people's favourite sports person is based on the way that sportsman acts. Some people want their SPOTY winners to be "nice" or "friendly", I like Andy Murray because he gets properly ****ed off when he loses, like a normal person.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Andy Murray will win it! Havent checked odds recently, but got 7/1 back in January
Fan The Flames Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 There is more to sport than just elite winners, sport is about doing your best and striving to continually improve yourself and Rickies 'journey' is a perfect example of that. Not SPOTY but worth an honourable mention.
Bearsy Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Les Reed to win the outstanding contribution to soccerball for his work with us and for helping write the coaching manual for ENGLAND in 2002. Knighthood I would of thought.
WindsorSaint Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year. Or "Sports Person The BBC Actually Have Footage Of"
Hatch Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Luke Shaw nailed on for young sportsman and Nicola for unsung community person
influx Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year. Yep, that explains how Nigell Mansell won it.
Saint_clark Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Guarantee Gerrard will be nominated, which is a joke.
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Is there any chance he could be one of the nominees? From Beetroot Factory to England/Premier League. One of football's good guys. A sporting good news story of the year IMO. No. Andy Murray is nailed on to win despite his lack of personality
Hatch Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 No. Andy Murray is nailed on to win despite his lack of personality you reckon?
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 I think so. First British winner of Wimbledon for a long long time. 1/28 with some bookies! even offering betting without Andy Murray
Pancake Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 The problem is although it is called Sports Personality of the Year it has nothing to do with personality, it should be called most popular sportsman of the year. I do hope that was in jest. If not, please look up alternative meanings for the word personality.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Guarantee Gerrard will be nominated, which is a joke. Why? Id like to see a nomination for Lampard too - 100 caps and great career
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Andy Murray will win it! Havent checked odds recently, but got 7/1 back in January Good price 1/28 with Coral !
Glasgow_Saint Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Good price 1/28 with Coral ! Knew it was money in the bank after his wimbledon win, just wish id put more on it (as always)
Hatch Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 If Murray hadn't won Wimbledon then the BBC would have probably cancelled it this year.
Baldbarbarian Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Knew it was money in the bank after his wimbledon win, just wish id put more on it (as always) fair play to you & yep always the way!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 I'd give it to Victoria Pendleton.
Hatch Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Michael Carberry is 5th favourite for ****s sake!!
dubai_phil Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Michael Carberry is 5th favourite for ****s sake!! If he gets a double ton at Adelaide then Glasgow may be out of pocket
the saint in winchester Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 I'd give it to Victoria Pendleton. I'd like to give it to Victoria Pendleton too. Sexy little minx.
Window Cleaner Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 so no footballers in the shortlist at all then let alone Rickie Lambert..
captainchris Posted 26 November, 2013 Posted 26 November, 2013 Is there any chance he could be one of the nominees? From Beetroot Factory to England/Premier League. One of football's good guys. A sporting good news story of the year IMO. Nailed on I'd say !!!!!!!! -))
Saint_clark Posted 27 November, 2013 Posted 27 November, 2013 Why? Id like to see a nomination for Lampard too - 100 caps and great career Because he'll be nominated for nothing other than captaining England to world cup qualification, which was the bare minimum of expectation anyway.
The9 Posted 27 November, 2013 Posted 27 November, 2013 I'd give it to Victoria Pendleton. Yeah, but who do you think should win SPOTY?
martel Posted 27 November, 2013 Posted 27 November, 2013 Murray deserves to win it. That's a slam dunk
SaintBobby Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Arent the ten nominees on the shortlist tehre by public vote/email or something? If so, how many votes are needed to squueze into tenth?
brightspark Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Ha! Though I suppose it has been a fairly poor year of sport for the country (especially compared to last year) so you never know. That said, even as a Saints fan it's hard to see Rickie deserving nomination. If Murray hadn't won Wimbledon then the BBC would have probably cancelled it this year. Murray won Wimbledon Froome won le Tour Farah was double world champion Lions won for the first time in many years Ashes series success "fairly poor year of sport for the country" PLEASE!!!!!!!!
Patrick Bateman Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Knighthood I would of thought. I thought you were good at this English stuff??
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Yeah, but who do you think should win SPOTY? Eh? Sorry, wrong thread. Bearsy, for the acceptance speech alone.
John Boy Saint Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 I'd like to give it to Victoria Pendleton too. Sexy little minx. Seems to be a bit of a queue forming behind this one!!!
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Seems to be a bit of a queue forming behind this one!!! Yuk. Thank God I got my name down first...
Window Cleaner Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Yuk. Thank God I got my name down first... not read Last Exit to Brooklyn then, there's a whole passage about the camaraderie of waiting in line for a gang bang.
Window Cleaner Posted 28 November, 2013 Posted 28 November, 2013 Welcome to the muppet show Knew I shouldn't have mentioned Last Exit to Brooklyn, how come Bearsy has never serialised that then, makes 50 Shades of Grey look like a Giles Annual.
