FFS .... bang goes our Dubai Saints get togethers every week, and presumably all you guys who have subscribed to Al Jizz back home.

 

We had wondered why our game was the only one shown down the pub on Saturday.

 

so much for the promise of Every EPL Game Live to attract punters and get pubs etc to stump up for thr rights to show games etc.

Looks like this will be an insolvable problem. Typical Brit "everyone does things the way we do mentality" as EVERY other part of the world has multiple choice of Set top Boxes and Satellites to tune into so we have multiple smart card slots.

 

There is NO WAY Al Jiz will agree to supply secure boxes (like Sky) and without that there is no way to secure the Smart Cards

 

The Killer is that the ACTUAL rights holders aren't even Al Jiz, it is some very obscure ME based company. Al Jiz simply won a tender from THEM to show the games.

 

I foresee a long and complex Law Suit.

 

I foresee ALL the people who have paid legitimate subscriptions getting screwed and a lot of Pubs getting raided in the UK.

 

When the simple answer is to just show every bloody game live on subscription direct to PLTV from anywhere in the world & let the Global Service Providers stick to re-broadcasting on Satellite

Pretty sure I warned at the time that paying subscription for this service in England would bite people in the arse. I'm sorry its ruined your dubai get togethers though... can you at least get the dodgy streams out there or is this going to severely ruin your saints watching abilities?

don't think it's about downloading really Bearsy, it's about illegal circuiting of regional rights. In theory Sky isn't available in France but I know a few people who have UK Sky subscriptions and just get the cards sent from home. I suppose in this case you just get a local to subscribe to Al Jaz and send the equipment back to the UK to show matches in pubs and stuff at a far lesser cost. BeIn sport costs 11 euros a month in France, don't think they show many PL matches though, that's Canal + which costs about 30 euros. C+ show about 6 games most weekends but I don't know how the cost compares to Sky.

I take you have never tried to run a business? They need to recoup their outlay somehow, so they are hardly going to sit around idly while people watched pirated material for free. Your only hope is that the BBC buy all the rights for live EPL football - and I can't see them forking out for that.

Ive been reading up on it, looks like it could be a bit of hard work dealing in all these ccmmds/clines etc, very interesting read.

 

The daily mail article has a slightly different take on things and says that they will be clamping down on the boxes. The don't say anything about the online streaming so I will expect that to continue.

Im not sure how they can stop the selling of a piece of electronics in the EU, im also not sure if they have the right to go around hunting users/hardware owners down (especially if you display the old - I revoke any or all implied right of access to this property - get out clause on your door, which I am led to understand stops any possible access for a TV license inspector outright?)

 

All very interesting. I would love to be able to be able to watch Saints games on TV, it wouldnt stop me going to games, I will only do a small number of aways with or without Saints on the TV.

Think i was paying like £70 a month at one point before i had tantrum + binned it off. I would pay double tho if it meant i could watch every saints game on proper TV.

 

For £140pm you could actually go to every game (certain assumptions accepted)

Sort of, 140*12=£1680

 

New ST 550(?), 19 away games x £30=£570

 

Tickets approx 550+570=£1220

 

Leaves £460/38 for travel = £12/game home and away

 

Nothing there for beer or food.

 

 

You can't quite do it for 140/month but it's not a million miles away, you could comfortably do the 19 home games, and chuck in a few aways as well (subject to you being within a reasonable radius of SMS), but subject to you giving up the opportunity cost of your TV subscription on the other 6 and a half days a week.

 

 

Probably best stick to free streams, chuck in plenty of beer and pizza, watch a few down the pub and then pick your live games and a couple of decent aways, and still have change out of 1680 quid.

I don't mind paying for the games honest! I don't mind paying for travel or burgers or comedy hat or whatever. It's mostly that I live in Birmingham and a 5 hour round trip seems inconvenient when i can just as easily sit on sofa in my underpants eating beans and watch stream.

I can not imagine the stream would be clean in Birmingham with your underpants in them and the pollution from the City..................

Well before Sky Sports came along, if you couldn't make the match in person, the radio, or Ceefax was the only way to know what was going on.

 

Sky have invested a LOT of money in to football and whilst it is tiresome, some of the things that have happened, they can't be blamed for trying to protect their investment.

True that pal. Our mate here says he hates sky and finds the radio boring but before sky the radio and ceefax, MOTD highlights and the odd game live on a Sunday was all you got. Hates sky but finds the options before it boring, no pleasing some people.
