Window Cleaner Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Storm in a teacup. Spurs will probably win 5-0 next week and all will be forgotten. A manager can only achieve so much, mind you they did spend a lot of money last summer but they cashed in a lot as well, no point in paying tax on the profits from selling Bale. Shroppie Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 I am more than slightly annoyed at the patronising tone of all these reports that suggest that, of course Spurs is a bigger club than Saints and, of course he'd jump given the chance. That is wrong in terms of league position, potential and infrastructure. I also like to think that he's Cortese's man and won't be going anywhere. CWD Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 I think spurs would be silly to get rid of AVB. Top young manager. Yes spurs have spent a lot of money but those players need time to gel. Also don't think Pochettino would go anyway. He has a good thing going on with us at the moment.

Saint Mikey Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 If the team continues to be successful, then plaudits will rightly surround Pochettino and there will no doubt be suitors. Will be another test for Cortese, along with other teams eyeing up our young talent. However, should we lose him - I'm confident Cortese can replace him with the right man to continue the good work. He's done alright so far! I wouldn't mind betting he has a good idea who he wants to replace Pochettino already, should it happen.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Wasnt AVBs net spend £2m? About £38 million less than mopo? I thought they were in credit by £2m? Though I could be mistaken, but yes - they more or less spent what they received. That said, I hear most of the signings were Baldini, Lamela in particular - so really, AVB didn't spend much himself. Don't think he will be going anywhere soon if I'm honest. Also don't really see Sportsdirect as the most reliable of sources. Like caughtoffside, it is most likely an aggregator/rehasher of other sites online.

Charlie Wayman Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Why would he want to leave a project only one year into its tenure. It would be impossible to go to another team and achieve what he has achieved here overnight. Yes he's been here for only a year but his style was built on a solid Adkins base of possession football but the balance was changed to substitute some of the gung-ho style of attacking with better defensive control in our own half. Following some clown like AVB might not work so slickly and remember Pochettino has had his dismal failures in La Liga as well as modest success. Mr Cortese doesn't encourage people he trusts to leave The Family. Why would there be an exception now when everything seems fine and dandy. A couple of massive cock-ups by Boruc and Fonte doesn't change anything and if we don't beat Chelsea on Saturday it still won't be execution time. Window Cleaner Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Can't see why they'd sack AVB myself. The "board" sold his best player, the one who scored virtually all of their vital goals last season and replaced them with a bunch of lads with no PL experience (which is a handicap for just one and a major problem if there are several). Without Bale's goals last season they wouldn't have been far above the relegation zone, looks like one player just might be more important than the team in this case. adrian lord Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 It was obvious these stories would surface with spurs hammering at city and us doing well with a trendy foreign hotshot young coach. Pugwash Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Spurs probably are a slightly 'bigger' club than Saints, but to go there would be something of a sideways move for Poch. If he moves on, it'll be more likely to a proper 'big' club, like ManU/City/Arsenal/Real/Barca/Milan, all of whom dwarf the spuds.

Mowgli Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 Surprised it has taken this long for him to be linked with other clubs. It hasn't. The story first appeared a week or two back. Window Cleaner Posted 25 November, 2013 Share Posted 25 November, 2013 (edited) How much did he add to the Spurs wage bill, compared to how much Poch added to ours. Probably not as much as you might think. With the number of outs they must have saved a packet, doubt if Soldado and Lamela combined earn as much as they'd have had to pay Bale to stay. As for the others you can probably offset them as like for like because some of the blokes they shipped out probably weren't there for a low salary, like Dempsey,Caulker and Parker. They did pretty well in the transfer market monetary wise it's just that what they brought in hasn't really replaced what went out in terms of team effort. PL clubs should really steer clear of players from Italy, it just doesn't work unless they're vastly experienced and built like outside khazis. The problem with adapting to the PL is that there are no easy games, every week it's a tough grind whereas in other championships there are always a few really rubbish sides that take little or no effort to beat.
