We will finish top 7 barring a horrendous injury crisis. We lost to day because lovren Shaw and boruc were all missing. Lallana had to go off and that was that. We gave a very good account of ourselves bar 2 errors and at full strength would have got a draw. Boruc had an utter howler. Many chances to clear it but turns back on himself 3 times. It is awful. Left just b4 pen. But for large stretches we were on top and pushing for a goal... And that is without Adam, lovren and Shaw.

Peeps need to get a grip. We are still 4th and have played 3 top teams away and deserved 5points from them tbh. Defensive errors aside we would have got a draw today. But this won't happen every week a d at least we did them against a team we have no right to expect to beat rather than a main rival.

We are a Good side, are we good enough to finish above One of Man United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs? Im not so sure. so we can realistically finish 7th-10th. We could finish above Everton to get 7th but that would be great achievement. IMO we will finish 8th or 9th. This would still be a great achievement for a club, let's not forget, are only in our second season back in top flight. Add another 3 quality players to the squad next summer and seriously, Maybe, just maybe we can push for the top 4.

I'm still holding out for 4th ( :) ) but yours is probably a more realistic assessment of where we are

Personally think Everton are better than Spurs this season but can see where you're coming from.

Agree with this. Todays loss may diminish some of the recent hype from commentators and journalists - we are a good, developing side, but we're not in that top bracket (yet).

Was at the game. A pretty good show by us but was concerned how often the ball went back to Boruc who just hoofed it upfield and 9 times out of 10 gave away possession.

Victor was immense and I thought Clyne had a good game but I think the Boruc clanger impacted us especially after good possession in the first half.

Spoke to an Italian guy outside the emirates over for a visit who supports Inter and the word over there is that Osvaldo is going to Inter in January, after his display today I would not be too upset.

Fratton Park. April 2005. I watched a dire central defence partnership of a disinterested Lundekvam and w*nker Davenport turn one of the best goalkeepers this club has ever had into utter sh*te because of a lack of trust and understanding amongst the back 5.

Whether you and all the clappies like it or not, the back 5 understanding is crucial to the way they perform as a unit. I am strongly of the opinion that however good he was destined to play himself, the introduction of Hooiveld for a sick Lovren threw the back 5 and made them less settled and certain.

Well you're entitled to that opinion and I do agree that the understanding between a back 5 ia important. But today, the goals had nothing to do with that IMO, because they were moments of individual decision making. Clearly we'll have to agree to disagree but as I said earlier, I suspect the consensus would agree with me.

Your 'clappies' comment, just like your earlier meltdown, is completely unnecessary though. Shame you cant accept alternative views with some maturity and discuss things like an adult though.

Seriously - he gave me tix. I *think* this was his writing... maybe, if not I don't care, I was there with the missus with tickets given to us by Luke Shaw!

Nice one - We too picked up our tickets from window 10 and I think you were next to us at the window as me and my mate commented that they've just picked up tickets under the name of Luke Shaw, if it wasn't you then Shaw is a ticketing hero.....

Only joking (sort of).

Is that Eric peering over the shoulder of the bald bloke by the TV?

Couldn't you have found him a space at the front, on someone's knee?

I picked the wrong time to be at the bar. I just managed to get back in time but had to stand on tip toe to get in the shot. The girl to my right looks suitably worried ;-)

Pretty much spot on, 7th is achievable but would require a monumental effort. I predicted 10th and would be happy enough with that.Us turning into a top 6 side could still take a few seasons.

Thought we played alright, kept them reasonably quiet in midfield without really threatening much ourselves.

Have to say I was laughing at Boruc's clanger in the away end yesterday and still am this morning. Sometimes it just doesn't matter if you support the team who make a monumental balls up, things like that happening are just out and out funny.

First of all my first visit to the Emirates and what a fabulous stadium. Good views and atmosphere very good. Got some free tickets in Platinum Club and facilities first rate. Thierry Henri was sat above us all the fans around us were taking photos and chanting his name. Great player but still a cheat !!

Thought we played OK but clearly Shaw was not fit and all our attacking options came down the right and Clyne really tested their defence but while we have possession we cannot accelearate in the final third. We are certainly no counterattacking team. Ironic that a high press lead to their first goal. Boruc will rightly deserve all the criticism over that cockup. That was pure arrogance. It cost us. We did paly some lovely football and Ward Prowse really will become a great. Hard to believe he is so young. Wanyama immense and while Arsenal fans did not like his physicality players just bounce off him.

Despite my fears Jos played alright. Yesterday was where we needed a pacy outlet to run at their defenders and get behind them .Pity Walcott is with them and not us as he is excatly the sort of player we need.

Thought Saints fans were quiet but maybe its was just Arsenal fans much louder. No doubt they respected us and saw that we are a top four side.

If we are honest we have been beaten by a far better side today. A goal keeper howler just in time for the Christmas DVD and a penalty that should be given in nearly EVERY game of football but i felt that they could have scored at will.

Arsenal were by far the better team when they had the ball, moving it around with purpose and looked like they could score at any moment. We played neatly at times but were second best to the ball all day long. With many stray passes and a very off form RL. AL looked lively but I am guessing that Poch is protecting him for next week as the game was already lost.

My MOM went to Jrod because he really drove the ball forward when ever he had the chance, looked like our best chance to score thats for sure.

Move on get everyone back to training and for me it does show that we are nowhere near where we THINK we are. Subs made very little impact today and shows that we still lack quality in depth.

Boruc does not deserve to hung drawn and quartered he has won us enough points in the past (JUST DONT DO IT AGAIN).

Er, think you must have watched a different game.

We were in no way outplayed.

We were done by a keeper having a brainstorm and the worst reffing decision I've seen since Howard Webb tried a perm...

Sat in the Club Level seats with Arsenal fans gives you a good independent assessment of where we are as a team. And where we are is a couple of better/stronger shots off drawing with the league leaders.

Jay/Rickie/Osvaldo, all had chances that could/should have hit the target.

For the first 15 minutes of the second half, the best ball-holding team in the league couldn't touch the ball. The chances we created given we had players playing well out of position were pretty bloody good.

Yes Arsenal had chances and their movement was great at times, but so was ours.

Get them to SMS with Lovren back and the right line up and I fancy a different result.

Agreed. Worth remembering that our midfield did a great job against a bloke who is widely regarded as one of the best in the world and cost £40m!

We looked a match for Arsenal for most of that game.

I liked what Wanyama did yesterday but I do think he could distribute the ball a weeny bit better (or quicker) on occasions. However with Lambert having a shocker like he did yesterday perhaps it wouldn't make much difference. Lambert with 1 shot and 53% pass completion just negated whatever we tried. Osvaldo has to start soon...and Gaston

Think the whole team could distribute the ball quicker - Gaston does that, though there are too many doubts around the rest of his game.

It's pretty easy to predict which teams Lambert will struggle or fare well against - the matchup with Mertesacker didn't look promising before the game. The Arsenal CBs looked pretty to vulnerable to movement and pace as Jrod and Osvaldo briefly showed -and we should have exploited that more.

Not said much so far but like to sit back and think before posting my thoughts.

First off I thought we didn't look too pressured by Arsenal - we gave them 2-goals and one a soft penalty many times not given.

We looked a bit out of sorts after the international break, and missed Lovren big time. Not in defense I thought Jos did OK but he isn't the leader that Lovren is! Shaw going off at HT changed our shape; but still we battled on. At 1-0 to teams like this we always have a chance and must confess I still fancied the draw until the penalty.

Not going to castigate Boruc - he has made up for that for me already with some matching winning saves.

I thought the midfield did really well stiffling Arsenal's stars - and although I can only remember one stray pass from Wanyama - the body check that winded Wilshere was worth watching over and over again.

I'm expecting a media backlash - the bubble has burst!

All those arrogant Saints fans talking about going top of the league left with egg on their face? Honestly I think we will bounce back at Chelsea with a full squad available and an extra days rest and training. I think the team weren't ready after international duty - they had a rest at the international camps. It showed - only the youngsters seemed to be playing with the same intensity.

Not losing was becoming a habit and Sunday's a joy reading all the positive things about my team. Even today some of the press were more than complimentary - I loved the positive spin Pochettino put on the Boruc incident. We as fans could all take note. I hate losing but we can't win them all. I think it shows when at full strength we are a team to be reckoned with - however Lovren is a massive part of our success and any long period without him will see us struggle.

I must confess I am still concerned about our goal threat - we looked very lightweight yesterday especially after Lallana went off. Just goes to show how much we rely on Luke and Nathaniel up the flanks. Once JWP dropped in at RB we seemed to play very narrow. Certainly no plan B.

Personally next week will be the start of a vacation - so SKY on Sunday in Manchester prior to flying away - so want to go away feeling positive!

Agree about our fullbacks - dare I say it, someone with a bit of pace would have offered more balance and threat than Davis after Shaw went off and JWP dropped to RB.

Was flying home yesterday so only just seen the game on demand this morning. - my thoughts, Arsenal looked the best team we've played so far this season by a fair margin. We only get our victories when we have our normal 11 playing, doesn't look the same team without Lovren. I think we looked a bit jaded in comparison to the last big away game at Liverpool, we gave Arsenal more respect, wonder if last years tonking was still in some of the players minds subliminally. Get a whole week together training, put out our best 11 and we should give Cheski a right old battle. COYR!

You're too polite Minty, he's talking out of his arse (as ever) !

The two goals were clearly individual errors and absolutely nothing to do with the make up of the back five !!

Yoshida didn't start against Belgium but he did start in the 2-2 against Holland where Japan really should have won.
Get your facts right. He did play that game, all 90 minutes

Japan starting XI v Belgium 2013:- Kawashima, Morishige, Yoshida, G.Sakai, H.Sakai, Hasebe, Honda, Kakitani, Kiyotake, Yamaguchi, Kagawa

Pretty crap game and a terrible atmosphere at the Emirates. Our fans were much louder last season despite us getting destroyed.

Wish our fans would stop giving Walcott a hero's reception. He doesn't deserve one.

We weren't destroyed was pretty even!

What worries is that the loss of just one of our key players throws the whole shebang into a nose dive. We will win this league so just keep the faith.

I thought you did okay without Flamini tbh. I don't think you'll win the league though, legs will get tired come March.
