pap Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 I'm currently sat drinking with one of my best mates. Doesn't post on here, or anywhere for that matter, but he reckons the next four games are massive. Here's why. 1) we are playing some top teams, Villa excepted. 2) first stage of champions league over. Players can't play for another team in CL or Europa League (unless still playing in team that they have already represented that year). 3) Cortese can show his ambitions by signing the best players from teams that don't qualify. Colinjb Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 Yeah, they pretty much are. If we collect competitive result from these matches we have reason to get rather excited. If not then we can look at being a little more anonymous as things progress. At the end of these games, if we are still in the mixer we will have passed the 'flash in a pan' phase. sandwichsaint Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 More than 6 points #It's happening! 6 points would be a decent return and keep us interested at the sharp end of the table 4 points would be a little underwhelming 3 points or fewer would push us back into the pack. I'm going for 1 point away and 4 points at home, a total of 5 points and only one defeat in 4 difficult games; if we avoid injuries and suspensions we could very much go again from there. Ziggy Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 I don't think we'll lose. Two home wins and at least two draws away.

Alanh Posted 22 November, 2013 Share Posted 22 November, 2013 Yeah, four big games, but I think by 1st January after we've added Spurs, Everton and Chelsea (twice) to the list of top clubs we have played to date, we'll know how the season might shape up. If we are still top six at that stage we should be mathematically clear of relegation and really have something to aim for. If not we'll have to reappraise and work out how to improve. Being out of the League Cup might be a blessing in that context. Swansea's season petered out last year because they had qualified for Europe in March by winning it. Saint_Tony Posted 22 November, 2013 Share Posted 22 November, 2013 Our next 8 games up until January all look tricky. The games will come thick and fast, so I'm worried whether we'll be able to keep up our form with the way we play and the lack of squad depth that we have.I wouldn't expect to get more than 6 or 7 points from the next 8 games. I still think it will leave us lying around 10th place, which is hardly a disaster

We're clear of relegation now, unless you seriously think we are incapable of gleaning 16 points from our next 27 games. And personally would have taken a petering out if it meant we had our second major trophy of the modern era. Oh well.
