buctootim Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 There was another report a few days ago talking about how people now call the police about 'anti social behaviour' which 25 years ago would have been normal youth activities. The single biggest thing we need to do urgently is build 2 million decent sized new houses and bring the price of buying and renting down. Being trapped in parental homes or paying such a high percentage of income on rent / mortgage that other reasonable expectations for a working person - like holidays, socialising, cars become impossible is a major quality of life blight for much, maybe most, of the population. They will grow older, their naivety will fade as they wise up and rise up. The youth will lead the revolution and the middle classes will follow. Russel Brand will no doubt have a role too! pap Posted 21 November, 2013 Share Posted 21 November, 2013 There are a lot of things going on here. Most are a natural consequence of the way our economy is going and the political situation that underpins it. Speak to a few of the older blokes on here, and I'm sure you'll have people tell you that you could leave one job on a Friday only to enter another on the next Monday, all without the nonsense of having qualifications. That was the Britain of 40-50 years ago. Today, many of those jobs have disappeared from Britain altogether and will never come back. The power of globalisation if you like. Compounding the problem is our arrangement in Europe, meaning that young people have to fight for jobs with hungry Eastern European migrants, and will have a real problem - not just in terms of competition, but also with things like apprenticeships, etc. Why would an employer spend years developing an 18 year old fresh out of college when they can just employ someone from Eastern Europe that is fully qualified and undimmed by the general apathy that Brits have toward menial work? It's an employer's market that contains fewer jobs. Risk-averse employers will almost always go for known quantities over youth. Just another example of what can go wrong when you let free markets run wild.

We have whored ourselves to the World in exchange for cheap Labour and millions of passports and ecomonic migrants who have no love nor affiliation to this Country. The sort of people who allow the likes of Cadburys to be sold to Kraft. The people that hold stocks and demand that a company has an Eastern European / Far Eastern base to compete in the globalised economy. The business leaders that clamour for more Europe, because it suits them down to the ground. As I said in my earlier post, the last Labour government does have a lot to answer for, but they're far from having exclusive responsibility for this mess. Ted Heath got us into Europe. John Major signed us up for Maastrict, which created the Single Market we know today. Labour's big mistake during their tenure was to allow early admission to newly acceded member states. It's worth pointing out that seven years later, the UK would have had no power to stop people from coming over anyway. Would have just taken another seven years for it to happen. Supermikey the lazy Uni drop out whose hobbies include eating. Bowers the failed McDonalds worker who falls on his fat arse doing a simple 50 yard sprint and now battling for his future in a call centre as he desperately tries to be the James Cordon of the office. You could argue the liberal party and the extreme left of the Labour party are inverted racist and have more time for the immigrant than they do for the rejected jobless neet in Rochdale. Cheap skilled labour from abroad means we will always take the easy option and forget our own citizens here and now, big business wins and the small man loses. I'm broadly against nationalism, but a bit of self-interested nationalism might be what we need. Still very unsure on UKIP, and you can bet that if a referendum is held by an advocate of the EU ( e.g. everyone else ), the campaigning will be full of scare stories and lies. Of course it will, big business will hammer them, deeply undemocratic as I say, every other Nation can have Nationalism large or small but we are the only Nation where we applaud it in others and yet we scorn it over here through embarrassment of the long gone Empire or for fear of upsettings the new immigrants, we are hypocritical, self righteous and oh so insecure of ourselves its pitiful.
