Playing San Marino seems a reasonable opportunity to give a few other players a game. Chalobah, Zaha, Morrison and Berahino also rested from Thursday's starting lineup, although there would have been a case for the first three to be dropped, such were their dreadful performances against a pretty mediocre Finland side.

i think Berahino is out injured now as someone else was called up as a replacement.

Good to see Shaw rested for this, he wouldn't gain much experience from playing against San Marino at Shrewsbury and we need him 100% for Arsenal on saturday.

Berahino is suspended after picking up a yellow card on Thursday (for lifting his shirt to reveal a dedication to his deceased dad on his vest.....). Point taken though, Southgate is well aware how good Shaw is, it's achance to look at other options this evening.

Shaw will soon be of no particular interest to Southgate anyway.

We want 10.

Ward-Prowse has barely broken into a jog second half because he hasn't had to. I imagine he gets more exercise walking the dog.

He did a lovely little job in the Beckham Quarterback role in front of the back 4 pinging Hollywood balls to the wings without needing to tackle or risk injury, so I was less worried than when he was haring around closing stuff down until they scored a few.

Lovely free-kick too, put it exactly where he did in all those practice kicks on the FA's website. Good job San Marino didn't see them. :D
