Sturridge has been crap tonight. Roy said before the game he wouldn't play 90 minutes so how the hell is h still on the pitch?

Exactly. So much of the squad is crap.

It amazes me when the Southampton lads describe training with England as a 'step up', and being surrounded by 'quality players'. How much better can it be than training at Saints? And there's no way in hell the training itself is anywhere near ours.

Sturridge was absolute garbage. Talk about a player who plays for himself. Rooney would be so much better with lambert up there.

Smalling and cleverly were utter garbage.

Roy has 1 way to play rely on pace and that is it

Townsend and Lallana were good

Lambert, holds possession, looks up intelligently, lays off the ball to Barkley and moves further up into space.

Barkley, tries a few step overs while staring at the ball and gets almost immediately robbed by the German defender.

Symptomatic.

You've actually called it right for once Colin. Our attacking play is laughable. Look at the Germans, quick passing, good movement, they know where each other are, how many times did you see a German player take more than 5 or 6 touches? They make it look So easy by keeping it easy. Whereas we have Rooney, Townsend and Barkley trying to take everyone on and do the spectacular. Gerrard playing 60 yard cross field passes or shooting from 40 yards and Sturridge who needs 3 attempts to control it properly. We've got a collection of individuals who all think they are superstars playing for us,

Perfect summary in my opinion. Was gutted Lambert didn't replace Sturridge to at least allow him and Lallana to try to link up.

Only caught the second half, AL looked good, worked hard, comfortable on the ball and always looking for a positive pass. Didn't quite fall for him but several nearly moments.

Most of the rest dreadful.... as everybody says, just a collection of individuals, zero team ethic or tactics, not sure what they do in training? It is only for short spells but surely they could get some sort of game plan together?

Have to think if Clyne keeps his current form he will be a shoo in for the Denmark game, Adam has shown well over the two games, RL needs to watch out if Carroll comes back fit and firing (if), JRod unlikely to make the Denmark squad.

England will struggle to get out of their group.

ITV coverage and the England 'team' are just about made for each other, both dismal.

Thought Cleverly played well in the first half, thought the system was wrong. Lallana worked hard and showed a couple of nice touches but thought he was less convincing than on Friday. Thought his decision making out of possession was faulty at times. Maybe that can be put down in some part to the whole system being better implemented at Saints, so he knows what's expected in each situation.

I like Sturridge, but tonight he was awful. Rickie should have been on for him earlier but I suppose at least he'll be fresher for the weekend.

Unfortunately it's the same at under 21s - Sterling, Zaha

Exactly what I said to my bored other half. So many England players give possession away so cheaply.

Cleverley has been one of our best players. Better than Gerard, at least.

I'm going to take this as a joke, very blunt sense of humour. Gerrard ran the midfield and watching him and cleverly dealing with a situation was funny at times. He still has so much to give us, cleverly is someone still playing due to his club.

The thing is, Blunt weapons such as Townsend can be good when applied in the right way, so I wouldn't lump him in with Sturridge and Rooney in that respect. But the horrible 'hollywood' attitude of many, many players is tiresome and counterproductive, we agree on that.

Where to start?

Germany won at a canter. Both Germany and Chile passed the ball around us at ease. England chock full of glory-hunting players who can't/won't pass the ball, who lack vision and touch. Too many inflated egos with limited talent still playing schoolboy 'rush' football.

Poor tactics from Woy. Formation was way too rigid for EPL players who don't play 4-4-2 as a rule.

Really makes me appreciate the football Saints have been playing this year. Even in our bad games we've been way better than that. And don't anyone talk about Saints players having to 'step up a level' when they have to play in teams as poor as England has fielded in these two games.

Interesting comment from Ballack about the lack of pressing and chasing from England to win back the ball whenever they lost it.

Brazil? Won't get out of the group on these performances.

System was wrong. Playing 2 up front against a team like Germany leaves the midfield weak. And Sturridge and Rooney simply don't link up at all.

Agree about Wilshere - over-rated, as are many of the players tonight.

Thought Lallana did OK and has a good chance of going to Brazil.

Lost the midfield for me when Gerrard came off, we looked okish tonight against a team much better than us. Cleverley had about the best game Ive seen of him in a while but Id still not realistically pick him regularly.

Sturridge looked poor tonight, shame as he is usually a decent player. Rooney played ok, Lallana and Townsend were good. Wilshere poor.

We need Gerrard playing and a striker that can play up top on his own.

Well, ultimately we arent anywhere near as good as we think

Germany win 1-0. Fair enough. Big plus for England Lallana. Townsend good too. Worry about Cleverly,Walker, Smalling and Wilshere

Lallana then Barkley both showed they can look after the ball tonight. Some real positives for England

Lallana has surely played his way into serious contention over the last two games

Saints would murder England. I just hope our boys haven't picked up any bad habits from being associated with that shower.

Don't think so, their work rates and ideas seemed consistent with our own. If anything I would hope that in some way our own habits would rub off on England.

Maybe when/if Shaw, Clyne and JWP also infiltrate the ranks?

Sturridge is an awful player. He's got plenty of confidence and believes he's gifted, whereas in reality he had a few good games at the start of the season and has now reverted back to being a waste of space. Anyone else noticed how he throws a little paddy every time a ball isn't passed to him?

Thought Gerrard, Lallana and Townsend had good games. Jagielka looked solid.

Barkley was clueless and Wiltshire spent most of his time being chased down and falling flat on his face.

Agree with a lot of that. I think we have to play one up top with three joining. Unfortunately while Rooney should be able to play the 10 role he never seems to play it properly when someone else is the spearhead. I think he'd work better in that role with Lambert up front who can drop in and link up play so well. Personally I'd have Rooney or Lambert as the point man and then play three from Lallana, Welbeck, Townsend, Walcott or Ox in behind.
