Glasgow_Saint Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Poll on talksport.... Henderson ahead http://talksport.com/poll/who-best-midfielder-lallana-henderson-or-cleverley-13110767291
saintrich Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Henderson has played pretty well for Liverpool this season. Could come down to those 3 + maybe Barkley? for a place in Roy's squad, difficult to accommodate more than 1 of them, as I doubt any of Wilshere, Milner, Lampard, Gerrard or Carrick will miss out...
lifeintheslowlane Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Not important...in the run of things what a few radio listeners think will have no bearing on how they play in the Premiership. Does anyone here vote in these pointless trolling exercises.
LainPain Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Henderson is turning into a fairly decent player, Cleverly isn't.

Turkish Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Not quite sure why some are laughing at Henderson. As others have said he's become a pretty decent players and having a good season. And also dont forget he has that all important quality of being young and hungry so therefore guarenteed to improve which applies to all Saints players under 25. Still i suppose admitting he is a decent player now would mean actually watching the game and understanding what is going on rather than simply jumping on whichever bangwagon is rolling at the moment.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 18 November, 2013 Author Posted 18 November, 2013 No he's not.. the power of love a force from above
Batman Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Henderson is turning into a fairly decent player, Cleverly isn't. that is true. and to think, cleverly is not doing anything at all in the worst united midfield for 20 years
DuncanRG Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Lallana on immediate form, Henderson by a mile on form over the last year or so.
Colinjb Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Lallana on immediate form, Henderson by a mile on form over the last year or so. Yep. Henderson struggled a bit when he first left Sunderland but considering he was in a team that was in transition that's not a surprise. He has matured nicely. Adam is however in the form of his life and as you say, right now he is the best of the three.
Wes Tender Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Any poll that asks for people to vote on a Southampton player against a Man Utd and Liverpool player is generally going to be stilted by the votes of all the plastic supporters of those two teams. People who don't have the mental capacity to decide that their allegiance ought to go to their local team instead of the glory teams, are not ideal candidates to vote on polls which include players from their teams. But surprisingly at the moment it seems that there are enough neutrals voting who recognise that Lallana is the better midfielder than the other two. Cleverley in particular is absolute dross and only gets considered because he is a Man Utd player. No way would he be in contention if he played for a bottom half team, which is his level.

I presume people jump on the Henderson-hate bandwagon are basing their opinion solely on the fact that Liverpool got mugged for £20m, which at the time was a huge amount of money for him. Have they seen him play recently I wonder? He is a good player who will be (I'm sure) a very good player over the next couple of years.

This is very true - take a quick look at the summers HCDAJFU thread and you have hundreds "No thanks" and "not good enough for us" comments agaisnt some of the worlds best players. I think most people on SWF simply watch the occasional Saints game and rate all others based on fantasy football scores and form on there football manager game.
Saint_clark Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 that is true. and to think, cleverly is not doing anything at all in the worst united midfield for 20 years Because he's been injured.

Saint_clark Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 for 2 years? No, this season. He looked a lot better for a while before his injury, especially for England.
Dig Dig Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 I would include you in the top 5 most knowledgeable posters list fo sho Cheers pal, you wouldn't make mine I'm sorry to say (loads of competition but def top 10) but you're number 1 in my most reliable ITK posters list

Classic example, Jason Puncheon seems to have had his best games with us since he left and one we really should have kept hold of because he offers something different yet were turning their nose up at Scott Sinclair.
Batman Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 andros townsend was not good enough apparently
Dig Dig Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 andros townsend was not good enough apparently Probably wouldn't be with our style of play
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 that is true. and to think, cleverly is not doing anything at all in the worst united midfield for 20 years Henderson is getting back to the form that saw the scousers pay an extortionate amount for him. He is decent enough in both an attacking and a defending sense aswell. Cleverley just completely confuses me, technically he is a good player and he works hard but just never seems to stamp any authority on a game. I still think he will come good eventually but at the moment he just doesnt give enough.

I don't agree that Cleverly is dross - he's just not as good as AL.
Batman Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 cleverly just does not stand out where or when ever he plays. none of his attributes grab your attention
Wes Tender Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 I don't agree that Cleverly is dross - he's just not as good as AL. I've never been impressed whenever I've watched him play and he's certainly not shown enough in any England games. As I say, he's only chosen to placate all the Man Utd plastics and only gets talked up in the media because of that. As you say, Lallana is head and shoulders the better player, more flair, more imagination, a better footballing brain, better attitude, etc.
channonwindmill Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 cleverly just does not stand out where or when ever he plays. none of his attributes grab your attention Cleverly is the Nicky Butt of his generation.
DuncanRG Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 cleverly just does not stand out where or when ever he plays. none of his attributes grab your attention To be fair that's not really his job. Central midfielders dream of being as quiet as Michael Carrick
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 To be fair that's not really his job. Central midfielders dream of being as quiet as Michael Carrick What's wrong with Micheal Carrick?
swannymere Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Henderson is now a decent player but he plays in a different style to Lallana so it's hard to compare.
Batman Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 To be fair that's not really his job. Central midfielders dream of being as quiet as Michael Carrick what isnt his job? actually having people say you are good at something what is cleverly particularly good at?
swannymere Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 what is cleverly particularly good at? Making his team mates look like world beaters by comparison.
Turkish Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 what isnt his job? actually having people say you are good at something what is cleverly particularly good at? Cleverly actually reminds me a little bit of Lallana when he first broke into our team, people said the same thing about him. They said he was light weight, not quick enough, no one knew his best position and so on. He's no where near as bad as a lot of people make out and as has been said he's actually technically very good, just doesn't really do enough or impose himself on games and as with a young Lallana no one really seems to find a positon for him. Of course the big diffence is Cleverly is 24 and playing for Man United so should be coming into his prime in the next year or so so really needs to kick on, Lallana was 21 and just starting his career in a championship club and has developed into an excellent player, if we're all honest with ourselves probably better than we expected.
DuncanRG Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 what isnt his job? actually having people say you are good at something what is cleverly particularly good at? I mean it's not his job to stand out. There are countless central midfielders who go unappreciated (including, until quite recently, own own Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin) because they don't score/set up goals or play difficult passes. It takes loads of media plaudits for the average fan to decide a CM's worth his salt. I don't have much of an opinion on Cleverley myself. What's wrong with Micheal Carrick? Nothing, that's what I mean. A good CM keeps everything ticking over.
Batman Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 but what is cleverly good at morgan was there for all to see last season
DuncanRG Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 Like I say, I don't know. I'm just saying good CMs don't always grab your attention. My point with Morgan is nobody did see it for quite a while, besides Southampton fans. Even we struggled to begin with!
Smirking_Saint Posted 18 November, 2013 Posted 18 November, 2013 To be fair that's not really his job. Central midfielders dream of being as quiet as Michael Carrick He isnt the same player at all, and so is there to be recognised
