Window Cleaner Posted 21 April, 2014 Posted 21 April, 2014 So then Hants 328 all out, Derby are now about 60/1. Draw then, Hampshire's slow run scoring yesterday will put paid to much hope of a result methinks.
wadesmith Posted 21 April, 2014 Posted 21 April, 2014 Hampshire 41/0 on adifficult wicket, score over 300 on this pitch & you are in charge I reckon. Yep looks like I called this one spot on! We get 300+, and now we've got Derbyshire on their kness at 203 for 2.
Leicestersaint Posted 21 April, 2014 Posted 21 April, 2014 Poor bowling. Can this attack bowl sides out twice often enough?
Berkshire Saint Posted 21 April, 2014 Posted 21 April, 2014 Really don't help themselves by only picking three front-line bowlers!
wadesmith Posted 21 April, 2014 Posted 21 April, 2014 Poor bowling. Can this attack bowl sides out twice often enough? Let me answer this one for you mate...........no.
Window Cleaner Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 345 for 7 at tea. We actually made some inroads with the new ball (I presume), got 5 wickets fairly cheaply but now we're being slogged about by their late middle order again. Same old same old, staid, poor bowling will get us nowhere again this season. We could even lose this one if we don't bat well from the start.
wadesmith Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 On a slightly lighter note Glenn Maxwell our 20/20 signing has now hit 275 runs off 133 deliveries in the IPL so far in 3 games.
stevegrant Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 399 all out. Maximum bowling points secured with two overs to spare, as well. A draw seems inevitable, which would give us 14 points from the match and almost certainly keep us top of the table.
Halo Stickman Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 Need a solid start to our second innings – you never know, there just might be a result for one team or other, although I agree the draw looks favourite, and I would be satisfied with that.
stevegrant Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 Difficult to argue with the start we've made to the season, for once, (likely) drawn the two games that were weather-affected and where we were probably a bit behind, and won the one where we were on top in pretty emphatic style.
Halo Stickman Posted 22 April, 2014 Posted 22 April, 2014 Yes, I’m pleased with our start to the season – let’s hope I’m not tempting fate – and it was good to see Gatting making some runs in the first innings; every member of the team has contributed something or other to our performances so far.
Leicestersaint Posted 27 April, 2014 Posted 27 April, 2014 What is the weather like today - I see there is no play before lunch.
Halo Stickman Posted 28 April, 2014 Posted 28 April, 2014 Run a ball century for Vince – carry on like this and he’ll be batting his way into the England team.
Window Cleaner Posted 28 April, 2014 Posted 28 April, 2014 Run a ball century for Vince – carry on like this and he’ll be batting his way into the England team. Good knock, we clearly needed to accelerate and Vince has done that for us this morning, pity we lost Adams when he tried to push on though, still Smith isn't so bad when we need quick runs. Need to get as many as possible by tea and then have a bowl at them.
Lets B Avenue Posted 28 April, 2014 Posted 28 April, 2014 I was just on my way over, looking forward to seeing my first cricket of the season and Vince in full flow, when the heavens opened and we had over half an hour of monsoon. Play abandoned for the day.
Halo Stickman Posted 28 April, 2014 Posted 28 April, 2014 I couldn’t believe it when I saw that rain had stopped play – been fine all day here in Devon. Going to be difficult to get a positive result from this game now, I guess.
Halo Stickman Posted 6 May, 2014 Posted 6 May, 2014 I see that 19 year-old Lewis McManus, wicket-keeper / batsman, has made a century for Hampshire in both innings against Cardiff MCCU.
Minty Posted 13 May, 2014 Posted 13 May, 2014 All going pretty swimmingly in the current LVCC game... I was slightly disappointed we didn't get a bigger 1st innings lead, but Glamorgan are 14-3 in their second innings at lunch so can't complain! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/o36857
Saint Charlie Posted 19 May, 2014 Posted 19 May, 2014 Not a bad start in the latest Championship match either, with a weakened batting lineup. Abbott seems to be bowling well so far this season.
Lets B Avenue Posted 19 May, 2014 Posted 19 May, 2014 Signed Owais Shah for the T20. http://www.ageasbowl.com/news/Hampshire-Sign-Owais-Shah

Bucks Saint Posted 21 May, 2014 Posted 21 May, 2014 (edited) Well, among all the doom and gloom for sfc, Hants are currently tearing Leicester apart on the final day. Leics were set 360 odd to win, and at lunch have limped to 71-6. Great work from all of the strike bowlers this match so far. Hope the rain keeps off Update: 74-8 Edited 21 May, 2014 by Bucks Saint
Bucks Saint Posted 21 May, 2014 Posted 21 May, 2014 Leics 96 all out, a comprehensive performance today and a great away win
Window Cleaner Posted 21 May, 2014 Posted 21 May, 2014 Leics 96 all out, a comprehensive performance today and a great away win Indeed we seem to be really pushing on now, 3 wins, 3 draws..mostly because of rain. Top of the table although we've played a game more.
Leicestersaint Posted 21 May, 2014 Posted 21 May, 2014 Well this is a good start - 3 wins so far and looking convincing. Some good and effective bowling this season plus some more consistent batting. Vince looking good.
stevegrant Posted 21 May, 2014 Posted 21 May, 2014 This win was without Carberry or Dawson, two of our key batsmen, as well. Even Joe Gatting got some runs!
Halo Stickman Posted 22 May, 2014 Posted 22 May, 2014 This win was without Carberry or Dawson, two of our key batsmen, as well. Even Joe Gatting got some runs! The way Vince is batting I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose him to the England team pretty soon – he’d be a big miss. Does anyone know how long Dawson is likely to be out?

Halo Stickman Posted 22 May, 2014 Posted 22 May, 2014 6 weeks Cheers Weston. It’s a shame Dawson’s injured, I like his combativeness. Still, Wheater did well against Leicester – I’m guessing we’ll play him and Bates over the coming weeks.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 June, 2014 Posted 4 June, 2014 Away from the trials and tribulations at SMS for a moment. I see that Hants are having another good game, 388 in the first innings, Derbys just avoided the follow on and Hants made a few quick runs to set them 340 odd. Thought we might be deprived of a result by the rain this morning, however all seems to be going swimmingly now as we have them at 51/6 with about 2 hours play left (barring rain/bad light). With Worcs-Surrey held up by the weather we might get some clear water at the top of Div 2 if we can get those 4 wickets.
Minty Posted 4 June, 2014 Posted 4 June, 2014 Good to see us delivering some good performances in the Championship... as much as our one day success has been good to see (and hopefully continuing this season), I want to see us back in Div 1. 96-8 currently, looking promising.
Window Cleaner Posted 4 June, 2014 Posted 4 June, 2014 Oh drat, had a bit more rain and then a couple of overs but we couldn't get their last 2 wickets, match drawn. Worcs-Surrey ended the same way so still ahead.
Leicestersaint Posted 4 June, 2014 Posted 4 June, 2014 Robbed by the weather - and also by not declaring quite soon enough. None the less, a very good display again by Hampshire.
Halo Stickman Posted 4 June, 2014 Posted 4 June, 2014 Hants – and probably Worcestershire – denied victory by the weather. Very pleased with the way we’re playing at the moment. I’m guessing Carberry will replace Gatting for our next Div 2 match.
saintsdan Posted 5 June, 2014 Posted 5 June, 2014 Yep, disappointing after such a good effort to bowl them out second dig that the rain came back. Good news is that neither Worcestershire nor Essex and Glamorgan in 3rd and 4th were able to force a positive result either. If anyone's interested (and not going) tonight's T20 game with Kent is live on Sky.

Halo Stickman Posted 5 June, 2014 Posted 5 June, 2014 He can now he hasn't been picked for the 1st test. Sadly, I suspect that’s the end of Carberry’s England career; I feel desperately disappointed for him. Having waited so long for his chance it seemed to me that he tightened up with nerves: some of his dropped catches and even some of his ground fielding was way below his normal high standards. To be fair, his batting against the Australians was no worse – indeed, a lot better – than some of the usual suspects, and outside of the tests he produced some very decent knocks. It’s just a shame he couldn’t have turned one of his good starts in the tests into a big score in order to reduce the pressure he was under. Also, I think the article he did criticising the England management – justified or not – only served to increase that pressure. Bit surprised that Vince wasn’t picked for the latest England squad; although, for Hampshire’s sake I’m not disappointed. To be honest, considering all that’s going on with Saints at the moment, I’ve given up wanting our players to get picked for England.
Leicestersaint Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Very good win against Kent in the 20 overs. Well done Carberry and Briggs (amongst others)!
Leicestersaint Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Big match in the CC starts Sunday! Just hope we win the toss.
Give it to Ron Posted 6 June, 2014 Posted 6 June, 2014 Was a decent performance against an average Kent side - apart from Key they didn't look much and only Bollinger looked to have any fizz. Our batting looks good but again worry we don't have a cutting edge to take crucial wickets which was the problem last year as well certainly at finals day at Edgbaston last year. Disappointing crowd and think the bump up to £25 after 48 hours before a game is shooting themselves in the foot. Many times I know people that have waited on the weather before going and another £5 seems a bit too much.
wadesmith Posted 8 June, 2014 Posted 8 June, 2014 Right i'm completely confused. Bowlers like Abbott are like golddust at the moment, and our batting has hardly been struggling this year ( plus Carbs is back) so why rest Abbot & play Maxwell? I'm not saying Maxwell isn't geat, but this seems an odd move? Is Abbott injured?

We want him back in August after the 2 tests in Sri Lanka, so no point in falling out with them. Worcester is a fast bowlers graveyard due to the winter flooding, so it makes sense to miss this one.

Oh fair enough, Cheers for clearing that up.
Weston Saint Posted 8 June, 2014 Author Posted 8 June, 2014 Abbott has been rested because he has played every game since he came. The thoughts were that Worcester would prepare a wicket to compliment their spin attack so we wanted to strengthen our batting and at the same time give us a spin option. Abbott, although our overseas star, is low maintenance in the club and highly respected. I spoke to his father on Thursday and although he has been called up by SA they are allowing him to stay a few days longer and will miss the first couple of days of the training camp prior to the test matches. Dawson said he is progressing well and about 3 weeks away from recovery. I spoke to Dawson's mum a few weeks ago over what I thought was an overlook as Vice Captain this season but she said when it was talked about he ruled himself out immediately as he wants to concentrate on his own game.
wadesmith Posted 8 June, 2014 Posted 8 June, 2014 Controversial I know but I would have picked Wheater over Maxwell. Identical batting averages, but Wheater is here for the long term. I think how Hampshire manage the Wheater, Bates situation is crucial this year. I just don't think Wheater will be happy just being a batsmen in 4 day cricket, but I may be wrong. Maybye someone on here has some insight on this one?

Maybye someone on here has some insight on this one?Wheater has already said he does not want to be a batsman but a wicket keeper who can bat a bit. He has done well and can count himself unfortunate but Bates holds the gloves at present but needs to keep scoring runs to hold on. Maxwell is in for his spin and lets remember he is an Australian Test Cricketer. You do not just walk into that side.
Leicestersaint Posted 8 June, 2014 Posted 8 June, 2014 Well it's hard going today - a shame we lost the toss.
