Bucks Saint Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Am i right to say the umpires can only add 15 mins today?
St Lej Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 St Lej collapse -5-18, rabbits in headlights…. Always feared this. Somehow we need to get through another 10-12 overs here
stevegrant Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Am i right to say the umpires can only add 15 mins today? The Hampshire Twitter feed said there was a minimum of 30 overs left to bowl when the 8th wicket fell. Lose two for the change of innings, but Smith and Tahir/Tomlinson probably need to bat out at least 10 more overs. 100 ahead with 15 overs to go on a raging turner should see us OK. Just about.

Had 80 overs now, If we can bat up to 90, we SHOULD be ok, being that the lead is now 70, another 20 odd runs in 10 overs may be sufficient
Halo Stickman Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 There has to be a minimum of 16 overs after 4.30pm I believe (minus 2 if a wicket falls after 4.30pm)
stevegrant Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Well done, Tahir, just what the situation needed, hammers Tredwell for six and gets bowled the very next ball, presumably trying to do it again
Window Cleaner Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Well done, Tahir, just what the situation needed, hammers Tredwell for six and gets bowled the very next ball, presumably trying to do it again Probably fancies a bowl
Bucks Saint Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 There has to be a minimum of 16 overs after 4.30pm I believe (minus 2 if a wicket falls after 4.30pm) Well, we have made it past 4.30 and still have a wicket to lose. Need to keep ticking the score up gently
Halo Stickman Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Match drawn! Brilliant display by Smith, and well done Tommo. Well chuffed!
stevegrant Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 A lead of 10 points over Essex going into the final game.
Weston Saint Posted 18 September, 2014 Author Posted 18 September, 2014 The last two days have been proper cricket and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Noted some of the comments above but must remind them we have only lost one Championship game this season. We are good enough to play in the 1st Div but we do need one more top rate bowler. Nothing coming through the ranks. That is why we have plumped for Adams. Not much else around at the moment but if we can got the promotion desired perhaps we can pick one up.
Lets B Avenue Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 Well done, Tahir, just what the situation needed, hammers Tredwell for six and gets bowled the very next ball, presumably trying to do it again Bowled thru the gate, playing forward defensive. Wheater needs the abuse. 1st ball swept to deep squareleg and dropped for his 1 run. Next over smashed one straight at mid-wicket. walked back to complete silence. Wood needent have bothered carrying his bat out with him in either innings. Could have done better with Boycott's "stick of rhubarb". Thank god for Smith and Tommo's dead bat.
Dark Munster Posted 18 September, 2014 Posted 18 September, 2014 What changes for the final match? Perhaps drop one or more of Tahir, Wheater and Alsop, replaced by Briggs, Master Bates, and Terry? Discuss.
Weston Saint Posted 18 September, 2014 Author Posted 18 September, 2014 Tahir, was unwell from the time he arrived. Do not give him stick. I will not say what one of the umpires said about his return! Wheater was blanked by the supporters but that is the way he plays. Giving his overall performance he deserves to play over the best glove man in England. From what I know, Bates has turned down a new contract. Unfortunately no other county has been if for him so far! Terry is very disappointed. Alsop sees himself as a batsman who can keep wicket and he is an excellent wicket keeper. The future is bright in that position.
Halo Stickman Posted 19 September, 2014 Posted 19 September, 2014 (edited) What changes for the final match? Perhaps drop one or more of Tahir, Wheater and Alsop, replaced by Briggs, Master Bates, and Terry? Discuss. Considering his steady knocks in the CC at the end of last season (couple of 50s IIRC), and in this year’s 50 over comp (another couple of 50s and 10n/o in 4 inns), I’m not surprised to read Weston say that Terry is feeling very disappointed. Personally, I’d like to see Terry play next week instead of Alsop. Regarding the Tahir / Briggs situation, I’d have been celebrating just like every other Hants fan if Tahir had spun us to victory this week; so I suppose that means I’m a hypocrite when I say I’m not particularly comfortable with the decision to bring him over for these final two games. Nevertheless, next week I’d play Tahir. As for Wheater / Bates, Wheater is obviously the better batsman – he seemed reckless yesterday, but that’s his style and maybe he was following instructions to take the attack to the bowlers – but I would like to have seen Bates given another full season to see if he could have improved his batting, but that's water under the bridge now. Next week I’d play Wheater. Gatting anyone? Edited 19 September, 2014 by Halo Stickman
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Hants side unchanged Essex elect to field against Worcs
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Hants 17/2, Worcs 23/3 Not the best of starts
Leicestersaint Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Oh dear. Why can't I find any commentary on the BBC site for this match??
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Oh dear. Why can't I find any commentary on the BBC site for this match?? Commentary doesn't seem to be working on the normal BBC site atm Worcs 31/6 ffs. Starting to look like we may have to win our match Or, perhaps Essex have prepared a dodgy pitch and will be deducted points!
Leicestersaint Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Worcestershire 31 for 7 - what is going on???
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 I'm just hoping the Chelmsford pitch is a real stinker for both sides, meaning that Essex will also struggle to get batting points.
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Hants 50/3. Adams gone - I don't think my nerves can take much more of this
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 The stuff of nightmares so far this morning
stevegrant Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 35 wickets have already fallen in the 8 games starting this morning. Proper justification for the season continuing until the end of September
Leicestersaint Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Hopes now rely on Vince! Meanwhile Worcs are rallying a bit.
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Makes me wonder about Adams deciding to bat first
stevegrant Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Makes me wonder about Adams deciding to bat first Not sure it really matters at this time of the year, runs on the board I guess. If we can bat a full day, that's probably a winning position. Looks like Worcestershire will be all out before lunch
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 You were right about Worcs Steve - 84 all out. Looks like Vince and Ervine trying to take the game to Glamorgan
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Hants 91/5 at lunch One thing looks fairly certain imo: neither of these matches will end as draws
stevegrant Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 41 wickets in the morning session. I think attacking is the way to go, Vince and Ervine both tend to score quickly, and if they're going to get a delivery that does a bit in the air or off the pitch, they might as well have added a few quick runs beforehand.
JoeShmoe Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Why on earth are we playing this lad Alsop, hasnt scored a run since he got in the team and when he has it been at a SR of 10. Shocking in such an important game

Minty Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Whisper it quietly, but 152-5 currently, Vince and Ervine both with half-centuries to steady things.
Leicestersaint Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 157 for 5 - looking a bit better. Essex are 47 for 2 in reply to Worcester 84 all out.
Halo Stickman Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Great effort so far by Vince and Ervine. Keep it going fellas!
saint1977 Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 By far the best effort so far of all the sides who were inserted or batted first today. Can't blame Essex for preparing a green, slow one at Chelmsford that seamed all over the road, they got lucky in putting the opposition in again though. What's the forecast like for the next 3 days in Cardiff? Need to win I reckon, 300+ first up could put Cardiff under pressure.

What's the forecast like for the next 3 days in Cardiff? Need to win I reckon, 300+ first up could put Cardiff under pressure. If Essex were to be bowled out for under 200, that would mean they could only get a maximum of 19 from the match (the 3 bonus points already secured for bowling Worcestershire out, plus 16 for the win), which would then mean we only need 10 to secure promotion. Assuming we can bowl Glamorgan out inside 110 overs, that requires only 2 batting points (250 runs) and a drawn match. Worcestershire's abject display this morning also offers the chance for us to snatch the title...

Shocking in such an important game Agreed. Terry has more first team experience and has some decent knocks for the first team recently. 233-5 now.
stevegrant Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Excellent afternoon session, 142 runs with no wickets down
Leicestersaint Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 Great partnership by Vince and Ervine - let's hope they press on and we can get to 350 by stumps.
stevegrant Posted 23 September, 2014 Posted 23 September, 2014 250 up, so the gap is back to 9 points, while Essex are now 3 wickets down.
