I watched the way he totally bossed for the U.21's the other night, considered the plaudits he got and the way he has progressed with Saints this season and then listened to his brilliant interview post-u.21 game and I have no doubts he will one day captain England.

How many players have captained England in the last 10 years? There's a good one for MLG ;0) I guess it's a fair few. JWP will, over the course of his career, captain England. Last time I thought about a teenager was Gerrard.

A couple of JWP pre-match interviews up on Saints player now. Come across really well as always. A very wise head on young shoulders

If this chap isn't England captain within 5 years I'll start supporting Pompey...

Love it when he says him and Luke find they have an advantage when they go to train with England U21s because the rest of the lads find it tougher than their club training whereas JWP and Shaw find it easier than training at Southampton!

just about the youngest England player in the U21's, but yet captaining them (2nd half), and being one of the best players too. All I keep hearing is how mature he is!

I wonder what odds you can get on his captaining the full side before he is say 25... I reckon it'll happen. As good as Wilshere is, not sure he is captain material. (I would make Jones England captain now though)

I thought JWP seemed pretty tidy player but I never knew he was potential superstar till last October or whenever when Turkish done a thread saying so. I took note of that cos Turkish ain't given to hyperbole, I mean he is bout some things like when mugging off MLG, but not in a positive fashion bout players. True story yo! Credit where it's due.

I was actually a bit concerned he was a bit too ugly when he first signed his professional contract, but so long as he keeps developing the way he has on the pitch - we all have reason to be very excited. So articulate in his interwiews at such a young age too.

Exactly. He seems to have done more OS interviews than anyone else this season, even Adam Lallana.

Meant to post this last night but had to rush out to football before getting a chance to post.

Whilst getting ready, I was listening to the Man Utd game on the radio.

After Rooney's cross for the og - David Pleat said words to the effect of: "there is no-one else you would rather curl in a free-kick from that side in the EPL, except for possibly JWP who has an outstanding delivery".

Made me chuckle.

I'm not altogether surprised that JW-P is mature beyond his years and erudite in interviews. His father is a Barrister, albeit in Portsmouth and despite them and him being supporters of the Skates, he otherwise will have had a good upbringing and education. Thankfully for him, his family decided to send him off the Saints academy, like fellow Skate Oxlade-Chamberlain before him.
