Turkish Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Well this has gone well, 3 players in the England squad one has shocker and two get injured.
SNSUN Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 After getting in late from a curry, I sort of sped through the first half on double speed and have caught up in the second half. From what I've seen, Lallana is involved in a lot, JRod hardly involved at all. As I expected. One bad corner apart, I still think Lallana was born to play for England. JRod needs a little more time and experience at the top level IMO.
Jimmy_D Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Seems to have got away with it? Might have dodged a bullet there.
Wiggles31 Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Is this not totally boring. Watching england is like watching emmerdale.

Don't disagree about Jay, it took him half a season to get used to being a premier league player, will he get the opportunity though. That's the problem.
NewYorkSaint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Scary moment, that. Glad Adam seems OK.
Saint Billy Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Do get this substitution debacle in international friendly's.
Batman Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 all well and good for the commentator to use the excuse that only 5 england players played in the champions league last week. how many did from the chile team? I know 1 player plays for wigan, ffs
Glasgow_Saint Posted 15 November, 2013 Author Posted 15 November, 2013 How the hell are we above Chile in the world rankings?
JoeShmoe Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Until England move to the sort of pressing game we play (as do Chile and Spain) we'll be slow, ponderous and rely on players like Townsend and Walcott to inject pace. We won't make it out of the group next summer followed by another round do soul searching and blaming people before the next prem season starts and everyone forgets about it again
CalneSaint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Think AL has done enough to warrant a start against Germany on Tuesday.....
norwaysaint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 It tells us a bit about how good a manager MP is when we see how average our players can look in another team. Our team is probably greater than the sum of its parts.
DT Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Think AL has done enough to warrant a start against Germany on Tuesday..... Can't see it myself
Batman Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Think AL has done enough to warrant a start against Germany on Tuesday..... no chance
SNSUN Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Don't disagree about Jay, it took him half a season to get used to being a premier league player, will he get the opportunity though. That's the problem. At 24 he still has time on his side. Repeatedly showing it for Saints would be a start. He's a player we have cover for if he gets injured, we wouldn't feel his loss too harshly, whereas with Lallana we'd definitely lack an important creative outlet. Lallana is definitely one of Saints' key players, and I think he offers England a great deal with his natural talent, ability to beat people, decent set pieces, an eye for goal AND he's stepped up his fitness this season and gained a yard of pace. I hope he gets a chance against Germany if he's fit.
The Kraken Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Don't disagree about Jay, it took him half a season to get used to being a premier league player, will he get the opportunity though. That's the problem. What is that, though? I think he got picked tonight from the Saints system being so good. We've got some really good players, but we've also got others who typically stay relatively under the radar but fit in so well to the system that they are invaluable to the Saints system. A bit like Marsden was with the Bridge effect. JRod has fitted in for us very well, but there was no great clamour for him to get into this England squad before it was announced, and rightly so IMO. Its harsh to say but I hope his position is one that we strengthen upon come January.
CalneSaint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 no chance Hasn't been the worst out there tonight.....not the best I agree...but certainly not the worst
Lighthouse Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 God what a dull game this is. Painful isn't it. As soon as the board came up with a big red number 9 I switched the TV off.
Batman Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Hasn't been the worst out there tonight.....not the best I agree...but certainly not the worst we shall see. like to see lambert start though. rooney is better when he is allowed more freedom
The Kraken Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 It tells us a bit about how good a manager MP is when we see how average our players can look in another team. Our team is probably greater than the sum of its parts. We were always that under Strachan.
DT Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Thought it before the game and think it now. Jay rod not an England player.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 15 November, 2013 Author Posted 15 November, 2013 Sanchez looks sh!t hot! http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/350996/Manchester-United-set-to-move-for-in-form-Barcelona-Winger-Alexis-Sanchez
Sheaf Saint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Solid debut from Lallana I reckon. Not spectacular by any means but he didn't look out of place, linked up well a couple of times with Rooney and deserves another chance on tuesday. J-rod certainly didn't disgrace himself but he looked like he was never sure what role he was supposed to be playing and didn't really get into the game at all. I think this may have come too soon for him, and I hope it doesn't affect his confidence too much. Absolutely dreadful team performance overall though. Barring some kind of miracle improvement England will get humiliated against a half-decent side at the WC.
CalneSaint Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 we shall see. like to see lambert start though. rooney is better when he is allowed more freedom Think a Rooney lambert lallana front line would be pretty amazing, if they are allowed to interchange positions a la saints style
Miltonaggro Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Still great for Saints to have three current England internationals, with the next three in the pipeline. Think both AL and JR would have benefitted from Lambo in the middle had he played!
Saint-Beer Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 England can't control the ball or the game. Holding possession is a huge issue. Lallana did well. Worked hard and some nice touches. But goes back to my opening point, the way we struggled to hold the ball and move it gave Adam little chance to fully shine. No chance to run with the ball as he didn't get the ball in good areas. Just chased and pressed there defence. The midfield was nothing. Wilshire did well and my choice of captain for England, but Milner, Lampard were poor. Have to ask yourself how on earth Lampard has a 100 caps to his name. Jay looked nervous and didn't give the ball away, but played a touch to safe. Lallana offers a sublime touch, ball control, vision and work rate. Lallana and lambert still stand a good chance to go to Brazil.
Wiggles31 Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 England are so appalling I hope none of them start or play. This has to be the most boring game I have seen in yonks. Its embarrassingly turd. England are mentally cack.
S-Clarke Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 What a total waste of my Friday night. I've never watched such an horrendous game of football, and I've watched lots of football. No one individually was ever given a chance to show what they could do, as the team and tactical understanding was non-existent. It's like they did no training and no one had any real idea who was playing where. Can't think of a player who did well. Not the sort of game you'd want your club players involved in to be honest. More harm to be done than good.
St Chalet Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Lallana did well. Should feature at some point against Germany. JRod doesn't look ready for this step up YET. ****ing pathetic anyone writing the lad's international career off at the age of 24.
Saint Garrett Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Chile are a different league to England. We don't seem to have any system in place? Lallana did ok. Jrod looked lost. Certainly the system suits our players very well. Jrod looked like he didn't quite know what he was doing. Didn't know whether to push up and press or just cover the full back. Crap game really
scotty Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Thought it before the game and think it now. Jay rod not an England player. Not yet, anyway. Work in progress.

S-Clarke Posted 15 November, 2013 Posted 15 November, 2013 Looking good for Brazil then. Would be one hell of an achievement to get out of the group to be honest.

To get his confidence and belief he belongs there, the Rodriguez we saw in March was a totally different player to the one that played against Man City on the opening day.
