"Whatever they are doing on the south coast to produce young players needs to be slavishly copied throughout the FA’s system. Then everything else will fall into place. That is all that matters. For Dyke and the FA the Southampton Way is the only way."

I prefered being the uncool underdog.

That is fine as a mentality for the players, and my personal preference would be to fly under the radar of the press, but there is more to it than that. At the recent "Leaders in Football" (Or whatever it is called now) Cortese stated he wanted to increase revenues by 70% (I think that is what is was, or even 80%). That is going to take a huge about of diversity and execution. There is no doubt that the media attention and subsequent England call ups, have significantly increased the profile of the club, which from a commercial perspective can only help.

Whilst it might only represent a relatively small amount of money (In comparison to a 70% uplift) one thing we haven't done very well (IMO) at over the last 3 years is advertising and corporate. This current media love in can only help us to do better and then of course when it comes to Corporate Sponsorship, It opens a whole new world.

So from a commercial view, it is pure gold.

I would imagine 'aap' have been quite happy with the little shirt sponsorship faux pas last summer, they've enjoyed fantastic media coverage this season for what must be the cheapest ever outlay with a Premier 'top 3' club!

The issue I have is that sfc does not receive the true value of the youth players we sell. We get good money for them when they go to a big club but when they are on sold we get a small portion whilst the big club who did very little in the players development, gets a whooping big cheque.

I presume you are talking about Bale as surely you aren't saying that AOC was worth more than £12m and neither was Walcott in 2006 and was at the time the most expensive teenager in English football. as well as this neither have left Arsenal so no whopping cheque. Bale was a totally different player to the one that left us in 2007, he was a skinny lad that was playing at left back, he left spurs an attacking midfielder that roamed all over the pitch and was a strapping athlete. In addition to this we had no option to sell as we were struggling financially at the time. To say spurs did nothing to develop his talent is nonsense.

I feel for the team we fleeced for bale. Or the team we mugged for Walcott
