Saintru Posted 11 November, 2013 Share Posted 11 November, 2013 The next 4 games really will tell us how close we are to the big boys. It is coming at a good time. After the Swansea game I wrote a thread that we had not clicked yet and faced some criticism for this. However we now have, because players have now got used to the system and the right players are playing in the right position. We are playing sustained periods in the game where we are on fire and it is great to watch. We are getting credit, but people may be holding back to see how we go against Arsenal and Chelsea. Do well here and we can start dreaming!
revolution saint Posted 11 November, 2013 Share Posted 11 November, 2013 Well I think people are reading too much into the next two games - lose at Arsenal and Chelsea away and what does that tell us? Not much really - take any of the rest of the top six going there and none of them would expect to win so even a point from those games is a bonus. Home games are maybe a different thing but I guess these games are only really defining if you honestly think we'll be challenging for champions league positions (and I don't). jasonb Posted 11 November, 2013 Share Posted 11 November, 2013 I just hope this place doesn't go into complete meltdown if we do come up short over the next few weeks. I am confident we will give a good account of ourselves and at least we'll try and play our way. How many times in recent history can we say that... I can't remember the last time I was this confident that we were going Into games looking to impose our game. It might not always be good enough by bloody hell... You stand more chance of winning with this mentality. Fwiw I think a draw at arsenal and a close, unlucky and very undeserved victory at Chelsea haha
cellone Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 For me it's more of a won't cry if we don't get a point from those two games, but I will reserve the right to be CHUFFED TO ***** if we do get any.
SaintBobby Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Thank God it's just a massive four games. I was waiting for someone to chirp up that Emirates away is a "must win"! :-)
Dark Munster Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 A must win game at the Emirates. Lose that and it's going to be very difficult to pip them for the title.
SaintBobby Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 A must win game at the Emirates. Lose that and it's going to be very difficult to pip them for the title. This. I just suggested we should consider this a double "must win" on the other thread ;-) For the optimistic gamblers amongst you, I'd suggest - rather than betting on Saints to win at Arsenal at 6/1 - backing Saints at 250/1 to win the league. Were we to win at the Emirates, this price would probably fall to 40/1 or 33/1 very fast on panic buying. Were we to draw, it would probably fall to 100/1 or maybe 80/1. You could then choose to lay off the bet on betfair. Have been trying to track down Glasgow Saint - is he still offering 500/1 on 1st place and 350/1 on being runners-up? If he is, put down as much cash as (a) you can reasonably lose and (b) you think he can reasonably be expected to pay out. Current title odds here (as I type, fewer and fewer bookies are offering better than 150/1 on Saints) http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/winner
Shroppie Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 One of my favourite Nigelisms was "don't get too low when we lose, don't get too high when we win". Confidence is obviously great in the team now, just hope it's not too high and ready for a crash. Can think of a few posters who are clearly on a massive, and perhaps not quite realistic high at the moment. Losing the next two and then seeing how they respond against Villa would tell us a lot about the manager's and team's strength. Has MP got as good a blue line as Nigel? Having said that, draw at Emirates and win at Chelski and move calmly on would be fine. Not lumping anything on us winning the league though. Still think we'll dip at some pint and finish about 8th. alpine_saint Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Yes, massive period until Xmas ahead. If we continue to average 2points per game over that, I fancy us for Champions League Football. Really need Osvaldo to click, imo.
AussieDog Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 so, to sum up just the next 2 games..... 2 defeats - oh well it was good while it lasted 2 draws - wow, we could actually finish top 6 2 wins - f*ck me!!! please don't pinch me or wake me up until we've done the celebratory tour around the city in May! Lose and we're still probably a top half side, anything else and we're definite contenders for Europe. Which is the whole reason for defining these games as "massive". Pretty much it. This place will go into melt down (well, 3-4 forum personalities will shout louder than everyone else) if we lose the next 2. I think we'll win one, lose one. The9 Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 I think we'll win one, lose one. Better than drawing two or not? We'd have one more point than if we drew 2, but one of our rivals would have 2 points more than if they drew with us, and another one 1 point less... I suppose it would depend on whether Arsenal or Chelsea finished higher in the end.
Winchester Red Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Will be delighted with one win and one loss, as others have said, much better than 2 draws. Would prefer 2 wins though
adrian lord Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 If we are contenders, these next 2 games we cannot slip up in. Massive pressure.
