Window Cleaner Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Hoddle was a 'dead cert' for Saints job in 2004. Still can't work what went wrong on that one. And finishing 17th in the NPC ?
Dalek2003 Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 And finishing 17th in the NPC ? Yep, got that wrong. Also, we were going for the 'yoyo strategy'
saint lard Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Since we're not c**ts then no, I'm not surprised. Ouch.... but I am/was right.
david in sweden Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 MINE: ....selling Gareth Bale looked like a good deal (at the time)...especially as I thought we had a good sell-on clause. However, it kept us solvent for a bit longer.
Stud mark of doom Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 1 - I should get a season ticket in case I miss out on a big cup final (1988, still waiting). 2 - We got an amazingly good price for Shearer. 3 - We will walk the championship (after relegation, not promotion, to it). 4 - Relegation to L1/administration, in the midst of the financial melt down, would be a disaster. 5 - Markus's sad death would mean we wouldn't reach the champions league after all (his joy at Wembley had convinced me this was inevitable). david in sweden Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 Steve De ridder looks class .................... Idiakez was a superb signing and best set piece specialist in the league Wilde spending was a good thing Birmingham would beat us 3-4 when they pulled us back to 3-2 Harry redknapp would keep us up Comments: SDR ..he did once....coming on as sub in the away game at Reading when he scored. Idiakez ....was not a bad player .....when he was fit, which (sadly) was almost never. Wilde....doing his " white knight " bit ..... kept things rolling a bit longer until ML / NC came on the scene. Birmingham.......remember many games last for 95 minutues. Harry Redknapp..... the very mention of his name makes me want to throw up !

Tamesaint Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 The night we lost to Sheff Utd in 2009 after we equalised in injury time and they went straight down the other end and scored. I said to the blokes I was with that I wouldn't see premier league football at St Marys again in my lifetime (and I'm not that old). I'm very happy that I was wrong. I was thinking about that game the other day. It was a bitterly cold night and it was the first time that I really began to doubt my sanity in tmaking round trips of 150 miles to St Marys for each game. I thought that Simon Gillett woud be the lynchpin of our midfield for years to come. The double Dutch disaster made me question our obsession with youth and the academy. Those shares in Southampton Leisure Holdings were a good investment. Burley would be the manager to take us to the Premiership.
Bobbyboy Posted 12 November, 2013 Share Posted 12 November, 2013 1. Griffit was going to be the best bright young thing we'd seen in a long time 2. Getting rid of Paul Rideout was a big mistake. 3. There really, actually, might be something to this Paul Allen rumour. 4. Adam Lallana makes Messi look s***e ... no, hang on... that's actually right 5. We're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen ... no, hang on...
