Nadia Sllim Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 FIVE things I got wrong whilst supporting Saints. 1. Speedie and Dixon would be good for us. 2. Keith Cassells looked a good acquisition . 3. Souness would take us to new levels. 4. That Morgan won't cut it in the Prem. 5. Cortese does not know what he is doing ...oops! What's your top five?
Dig Dig Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Would love to contribute but don't thik I've been wrong ever let alone 5 times. Will have a think though.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 This thread will get locked. Its basically the same as the busted myths one that did.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 You were wrong about that haircut diggers.
Bananaman Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 1. Dennis wise should be our new manager 2. David mcgoldrick will become a club legend 3. Hajto is a class purchase 4. Contemplated getting Fox on my replica shirt when he first signed 5. Dale Stephens... Looks promising
pap Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 We'll make the playoffs despite the points deduction.
scotty Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Replacing NA with MP would prove a disastrous mistake, and come back to haunt us next season.
KelvinsRightGlove Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 1) Prutton will play for England (lol) 2) Puncheon shouldn't play for the club again c.2010/11 (though mostly due to his p!ss poor attitude)
Saint_Randell Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Peter Crouch was a lanky piece of cr*p who would be one of our worst ever signings...
Batman Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 adkins will go on to be the next great england manager. im lying, never said that at all
Window Cleaner Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 adkins will go on to be the next great england manager. im lying, never said that at all He'll be lucky if he survives at Reading beyond Christmas. Still perhaps they can't afford to pay him off eh :p
Barry Sanchez Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 1) Perry Groves was a good signing. 2) Ken Monkou was not. 3) Boruc was a poor buy. There are many more.
aintforever Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 I was wrong about Pochettino, thought it would be a disaster.
Danish Saint Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 1. Was sure "Torpedo" would set the Premiership on fire. 2. Bernard was a solid signing at LB. 3. Marsden was rubbish when he joined. 4. Yoann Folly would boss the midfield. 5. Tessem was a waste of money at first. ... and many more....
Jai27 Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Yup, I was with the naysayers about Pochettino. Also never thought Puncheon would ever wear a Saints shirt again.
Saints foreva Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 I said to my mate that we'd accepted defeat against MK Dons when I saw Jonno Forte preparing to come on...
Jimmy_D Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 This thread will get locked. Its basically the same as the busted myths one that did. The other threads would have just ended up with posters sniping at each other, then defending themselves, and then bringing completely unrelated things into it like levels of optimism and pessimism. We've seen the exact same thread a thousand times before. This one, inviting people to own up to their own mistakes, is far more likely to be constructive. I like it! I remember confidently telling a mate that the Poortvliet/Wotte experiment, playing the kids, would see us playing the best football in the division and get us promoted… >_ Have to admit, I was one of the people convinced that Paul Allen was about to take over as well.
View From The Top Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Shaw is going to Chelsea in Jan'.
Colinjb Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Oh, where to start. 1) Lallana is far too lightweight to succeed in the top flight. 2) Kelvin Davis will be good enough for the top flight. 3) No more Rupert Lowe, he's gone forever! (Circa Michael Wilde's time in charge, Aug 2006.) 4) Callum Davenport is a superb signing. 5) The Poortvliet experiment will see us fine. 6) Ryan Smith will come good. And many more!
trousers Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 This forum will become more objective and constructive after the Liebherr/Cortese takeover
Hokie Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 If I'm honest, I'd add to several of those above that I believed: 1. Lambert would not succeed in the premier league 2. Replacing Pardew with Adkins was a mistake 3. Strachan would take us down, but Redknapp would keep us up
studentsaint Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Steve De ridder looks class Idiakez was a superb signing and best set piece specialist in the league Wilde spending was a good thing Birmingham would beat us 3-4 when they pulled us back to 3-2 Harry redknapp would keep us up
SaintBobby Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Way more than five.... Burley was the ideal manager to get us promoted. Having just gone up from League One, we'd be lucky to finish in the top half of the Championship. NC was wrong to sack Pardew and wrong to sack Adkins Gaston Ramirez would turn into our best player ever Rudi Skacel would turn into one of our best ever players We'd walk the Championship in 2005/6 I'd probably never see Saints win at Wembley in my lifetime Moving to St Mary's was a mistake, because although the Dell was just a bit too small, we'd only ever attract crowds of 17,000-19,000 We'd almost certainly be relegated in our first season back in the top flight (only started to change my mind after we beat QPR away) Yoshida would replace Fonte as a first chocie centre back this season The list goes on and on...
The Cat Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Strachan. At the time I thought it was a horrible decision. Getting carried away by the football we played under Portvliet when we beat Norwich at home and predicting we'd finish top half. Hmm.
JackFrost Posted 11 November, 2013 Posted 11 November, 2013 Mayuka was an absolutely superb signing Marek Saganowski would be a massive player for us when he signed permanently Paul Wotton was absolutely useless *****il I saw him play live, press the opposition and work his socks off for 90 mins in a game even with his limited ability) Dexter Blackstock would develop into a PL striker Kelvin Davis should be sold and Bart should be our number one (during KD's bad spell for us under Burley) and one from a friend of mine - Leon Best will be fine taking the first penalty against Derby in the play-off semi final
Downthe36 Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Pardew/Adkins/Pochettino - threw my toys out of the pram at each step. Thought Lovren was going to be poor. I was even a bit worried about the jolly foreigners that were about to buy the club despite the crap we were in!
Jimmy_D Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Another one that probably applies to most fans in the county... the number of times I've gone nuts celebrating a goal... only to find out it was offside/in the side netting/saved on the line/actually went in and bounced off the advert boards... and not given. The worst one for me being when I was still celebrating as they went up the other end and scored
Dark Munster Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Carlton Bloody Palmer would be crap. Adkins sacking was a bad decision. Redknapp would save us. In fairness I predicted Wigley, Gray, the Dutch duo, and Lowe returning the 2nd time would be disasters.
bender Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Peter Crouch was a lanky piece of cr*p who would be one of our worst ever signings... No mate. This is a thread about things you got wrong.
bender Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 I once said that Portsmouth fans aren't that bad a bunch.
CB Saint Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 "We can't possibly throw it away from here" - said that way too many times My pie is now cool enough to take a big bite out of.
hutch Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Oh, where to start. Extra maths classes?
alpine_saint Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Didnt rate Lallana and Morgan enough over the previous 3 seasons. Thought we should consolidate our play-off position in League 1 and rest players over the last few league games
warsash saint Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Having Greenwich Saint convince me that Leandre Griffit would set the Premiership alight
The9 Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Having Greenwich Saint convince me that Leandre Griffit would set the Premiership alight I can still hear the drum beating now. I said JWP "hadn't shown signs of improvement" in early August, described Matt Oakley as "the best CM in the Premier League" circa 1998 and there was that Billy Sharp thing from thinking Lambert would be increasingly injury prone from 2010 onwards.
Colinjb Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 (edited) Extra maths classes? Hence the 'and many more.....' 5 wasn't enough! Besides, he asked for a top five... No limit was given and I provided mine with bonus content. Edited 12 November, 2013 by Colinjb
Bucks Saint Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 1) Rory Delap would be decent 2) Strachan??? NOOOO 3) Craig Maskell was a trier 4) Rupert Lowe was not all that bad, after he phoned me once 5) [best one] Shouting "this is no Fcking time to be sentimental" when MLT came on as a sub in the last game at the Dell....
Prince Jazzbo Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 The night we lost to Sheff Utd in 2009 after we equalised in injury time and they went straight down the other end and scored. I said to the blokes I was with that I wouldn't see premier league football at St Marys again in my lifetime (and I'm not that old). I'm very happy that I was wrong.
mrjamesgeorge Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 I once wrote an article for the ugly inside stating Bradley Wright Philips would play for England!
BigShadow Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 I told anyone who would listen that Andy Williams (remember him - winger, late 1990's) was gonna be a superstar.
sussexsaint Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Leandre Griffit will be an immense player and will net us 10's of millions when he leaves De Ridder will be amazing/exciting we will never get one of our players in the England squad
doc oli Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Lambert wouldn't be mobile enough / trim enough for the Championship (let alone the PL!) Suggesting going to start queueing for FA cup quarter final tickets when 2-0 up at half time against Spurs in 1995 Kenwyne Jones would get us back up the Prem single-handedly Boruc was fat, lazy and disinterested
saint lard Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 I'm surprised there is not more saying 'I was wrong about Nigel Adkins, he did what was nesessary, just, but no more...considering what he had at his disposal....look what has been achieved since, and with some of the same players"
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 A few years ago now, being particularly impressed at seeing a fine example of the defenders art, I did shout out at the very top of my voice "well played Mills" only to then realize that actually it was Dan Harding I was directing my praise at. No one in the Chapel was so impolite as to said anything ... but I well knew what they were thinking!
Dalek2003 Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 Hoddle was a 'dead cert' for Saints job in 2004. Still can't work what went wrong on that one.
View From The Top Posted 12 November, 2013 Posted 12 November, 2013 I'm surprised there is not more saying 'I was wrong about Nigel Adkins, he did what was nesessary, just, but no more...considering what he had at his disposal....look what has been achieved since, and with some of the same players" Since we're not c**ts then no, I'm not surprised.
