Bearsy Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 He did have a bit of a stinker up there last year, didn't he Hooiveld? Weren't it that he scored an own goal and then got the hook after 20 mins. Hopefully he's forgot all about that!
Winchester Red Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 I think all people are highlighting is that if you asked Saints fans which player they would least like to not play vs the top of the table team, the majority (probably) would choose Lovren. This definitely. Lovren and Boruc
aintforever Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Today could potentially show up our lack of strength in depth. One key player out and I fear we will get smashed.
CanadaSaint Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 This had a thread a while back. Most people felt Boruc, but a few of us said Lovren and were abused for it. Suppose we'll find out who was right today.. It's certainly quite a step down from Boruc to Davis but it becomes less of an issue if we're tight and well-organized at the back, with help from Schneiderlin and Wanyama. If we lose Lovren or Shaw it doesn't just impair our defensive ability but also compromises our ability to play higher up. That's why I wouldn't put Boruc in my top three, even though Davis is a major downgrade. I certainly haven't given up hope of a result but - like most - I'm less optimistic than I was.
saintant Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Let's hope MP has been able to drill into Jos that he must be brave enough to hold a high line with the rest of the back four because that is his big weakness. He is always prone to drop back towards his goalkeeper as a sort of comfort. This gives opponents the space they crave and also is the reason Jos is prone to own goals - he gets too close to the keeper, sticks out a long leg to block and the ball can hit him and be in before gk can react.
Mr X Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 dont fancy are chances of an organised defence without lovren, the walls could come crumbling down! but hoiveld will give his all i have no doubt!
Killers Knee Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 If Jos can play 90 minutes without giving away a penalty or scoring an OG then his 90 minutes will have been a success. Can't see Saints winning now, but a nil all boredraw would be a great result if we can manage to park the bus.
adrian lord Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Delayed start, key player out, this is turning into a very tense afternoon already.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Lets hope the other 10 players don't feel that its all lost now...
beatlesaint Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 To be fair to Jos he wont have the added pressure of being pulled out of position and having to cover for the absent full back today like he does when Fox is playing.
Mr X Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Lets hope the other 10 players don't feel that its all lost now... you would think they would be all the more desperate to prove themselves
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 you would think they would be all the more desperate to prove themselves I am sure they will...
CanadaSaint Posted 23 November, 2013 Posted 23 November, 2013 Okay, so losing Lovren is a big shock we didn't need, but it also messes with Arsenal's game plan. So, it's not all bad.
