"you can't deny that after 11 games of the season, we are firmly in the title race"

Most would bet on 8th if money was involved

I am happy to offer anyone 500/1 that we will not finish top 4 this season

max bet 1 pence

So my 1p bet will get me a fiver if we don't come in the top 4? You're on.

If your 300+ friends get on board as well, this could be very amusing

I think vs. City and Chelsea we can do something out there. It's Arsenal that worry me. Burial ground for us and worse than that they will want to react to the defeat at OT. Of course we seem to thrive in such conditions like at OT and Anfield so who knows, maybe our real concern should be Aston Villa (given it's a game we probably have to take the initiative in).

Also...

http://www.givemesport.com/400801-liverpool-deserve-tremendous-credit-for-their-season-so-far

"Liverpool's only two losses this season have come against two of the other top four teams in the league, Southampton and Arsenal. The Southampton defeat may have seemed like a huge disappointment at the time, but based on how the season has transpired, Liverpool can be proud to have played so well against arguably the most in-form team in the Premier League."

That's talking about Liverpool. At Anfield. Against us.

Reckon the media is starting to get even more carried away than we are!

Kenny Dalglish is getting in on the act too:

"We are not yet a third of the way through the season, but we are not far off and it is getting to the point where we have to take the claims of Southampton and Liverpool seriously.

"Nobody really considered either of them - especially the Saints - legitimate contenders for a top-four place this season.

"But they are reaping the benefits of not having to adapt to a new manager, as many of the leading clubs are having to do.

"It has got to the stage now where, if they buy in January, I think both might have a real chance of staying up there."

I know it's ridiculous, but no-one looks 100% convincing at all in the prem, not Arsenal or anyone. One game at a time, wins against teams below us and a good go at the top teams might keep us at nosebleed level for a while.

See, this is why you get people's backs up Barry. It's like you're taking the **** out of ''your own'' fans. What's the point?

Some were positive and believed it at the start, so what. Didn't hurt anyone did it? At the end of the day they were positive about the club they support, that's not really something worth taking the **** out of.

Humility and realism, that was what was lacking, I wont quote any more as there is no need.

He's just lashing out because he doesn't have the courage to nail his colours to the mast and would rather hedge his bets and annoy many many people along the way.

I have never hedged my bets, I dont like many of Cortese methods, purchasing and selling the idea of the European dream to the fans for starters.

I will, but it gets tiresome when people put mathmatical store in something that simply won't happen. We won't get relegated this season.

Feel free to chastise me for my assured, concrete opinion. In fact I encourage it. Fill your boots.

I won't care because I'm right. We are safe safe safe safe safe safe.

I'd like to make it clear I am standing by this statement.

And the constant point scoring and going out of your way to rub people's noses it, like dragging this thread up again?

I'm sure when I have made a mistake it has been brought up, granted mere spelling mistakes but you have to take what you have got. The first thing is not to post such audacious posts in the first place, have you ever thought they wind people up?

If you're seriously comparing people pointing out spelling mistakes to the way you constantly batter and belittle other people's opinions, then there's not much point continuing this conversation. I'm off to watch the cricket enjoy the rest of your night.

Sometimes it seems that there are a group on here who will only be satisfied if we get relegated because they they can all start chanting "we told you so".

Do you think you direct me to one forum contributor that is talking about us being relegated? I mean, you're saying a "group" so there must be quite a few.

there is a lot of nonsense posted on here about how great we are, and how saints were ready to take the top 4 by storm, some of us pointed out it was far too early to even think about , we had been poor against Sunderland and West Ham at home, and Norwich away where the loss of our full backs made us look very ordinary.

we've lapped up the media praise on our way up so be prepared for the criticism on the way down.

what annoys me is we really should have had a go at the league cup, challenging at the top of the table was never sustainable with our squad but having a good cup run was.

I think we'll be down to 11th-12th by the end of this month by which time we'll have played half the season and the table will be a better reflection of how good we are.

the run of games from Arsenal away Nov 23rd to Chelsea home Jan 1st is very tough and should be a healthy reality check for some of you.

After 11 games we were title contenders. After 14 games, it's looking considerably less likely. Am I missing something?

by your logic were we also in it at the start of the season?

it is ridiculous to refer to us as "title contenders" after 11 games without factoring in we were about to have a run of very tough fixtures.

after Christmas when we have played all the teams in the division it would be fair to pass judgement.

"you can't deny that after 11 games of the season, Southampton are firmly in the title race"

This is a quote by me to a friend just now. It is completely true. Go forth and say it to all of your friends too - and your enemies. In fact, everyone you know, trust me - it feels good.

(Disclaimer: I don't expect us to win the league but I am going to enjoy every moment we are up there while it lasts. Please don't berate me for being a 'deluded mong'. Thanks)

Mmm....perhaps it might have been better to have waited to see if we can say that after 31 games instead. Recent defeats and the growing injury list just goes to show the fragile nature of our bench.

Would you not be disappointed with 10th? Take out the top 7 from last season and who is better than us? Catching one or two of those 7 isn't completely out of the question, particularly Everton.

Would you be happy with 10th now? I can see us dropping more points until we get the injured first choice players back in defence.

I knew someone would drag this up. At any point on this thread has anyone, including me, said we would win the league? No. Everyone said we were up there and to enjoy it while it lasts.

There's so much point scoring and trying to make people feel stupid on this forum. It seems a lot of people are desperate to be the first one to put others down. Real shame.

It's really odd to be honest. The posters who bounce it (Always the same posters as well), seem absolutely delighted to be laughing at their own fans and taking the **** out of their own fans. It was a bit far fetched to think we were having anything other than a good start, but who cares? Enjoy it whilst it lasts is how it should be.

How is going on about the Champions League ("CL or nothing" was a quote on here); the League Cup being "small fry" (again, a quote on here);and speculating that we have "a couple of decades" (again, another quote) of top six/eight finishes ahead of us....how is any of that "enjoying it while it lasts?"

Enjoy while it lasts is what I've doing. We're going to finish about eighth. Perfect.

It's the people on here think this is the start of a dynasty of Euro/Premier League success that can't seem to enjoy it in the moment at all.

People on here are way to sensitive - its just banter. Relax!!

Posters like yourself expect to dress as a clown in the high street, do cart wheels and then get upset when a few people laugh at you.

Every man is a damn fool for at least five minutes every day; wisdom consists in not exceeding the limit.

Why do these people annoy you so much Fry? Put any crowd together and there will be people who have crazy views. They really seem to get to you though and don't know why.

I think you need to ask yourself the same question. People, particularly you, stalk me by name on here. You've never met me or knew me but feel the need to do that. I really seem to get to you and don't know why.

I am actually smiling at your sense of delusion. True you are one of the posters I remember but only because I await you to say something positive and not snide. Maybe in the new year eh?

So I say we can finish eighth and that would be brilliant, and that makes me snide, not positive and deluded.

Fair enough. See you in May.
