Turkish Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Cattermole to stoke. We've missed a trick there, class player and just what we are missing
kpturner Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 What is going on here? Posts seem to be getting deleted left right and centre or am I imagining it?
positivepete Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 So Hughes truly is trying to play top quality football then. NZonzi, Palicios, Cattermole. I predict there won't be a Stoke game where one of them doesn't get booked. Nzonzi is a class player, far too good for Stoke
Cestrian Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Can't see anybody coming in which is a shame as we desperately need a defender and a striker if we're to compete for a top 10 finish this season. Anybody else think that MP may use Wanyama as a CB at some point with MS & JC continuing in midfield? I'd have thought he'd be a better option than Jos or Yoshida.
Dark Munster Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 I am quite relaxed about not signing people - although we do need a top notch centre back, and fast forward and a decent back-up keeper. I am sure that the players we have got can do us proud for the rest of the season, injuries permitting. And therein lies the rub.
edprice1984 Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Not sure if posted already but Jordan Sibley just confirmed that business done for the window....
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We can't compete for 10th with the existing squad?!! Bit of an odd thing to say, seeing as this squad got us there. The only player of note we've let go is Osvaldo, but he was suspended more than available anyway.
Batman Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Bit of an odd thing to say, seeing as this squad got us there. The only player of note we've let go is Osvaldo, but he was suspended more than available anyway. nearly all of teams we are now due to play have strengthened. we have not we shall see how the rest of the season goes
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 nearly all of teams we are now due to play have strengthened. we have not we shall see how the rest of the season goes Not sure what's happened to you over the last few weeks. You used to be really level headed!
BlakeySFC Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 nearly all of teams we are now due to play have strengthened. we have not we shall see how the rest of the season goes This.
sotonist Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 I think we're done: we've missed another target then. it'll be dressed up as we're happy with our squad, but poch said "in and out" so we planned a purchase that hasn't come off.
Mr Saints Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We will finish 9th and won't win the FA cup.
Batman Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 we've missed another target then. it'll be dressed up as we're happy with our squad, but poch said "in and out" so we planned a purchase that hasn't come off. basically. which is a shame still think it is important to finish as high as possible with a run in the cup
Batman Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 It's easy to strengthen sh1t isn't it. Go back and look at previous seasons. The bottom half signs more as they're in danger of relegation and things aren't going too well. I swear your brain gets reset each summer and every season is your first! every team bar newcastle and us are strengthening. are they all shyt? even newcastle have bought in De Jong
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Author Posted 31 January, 2014 we've missed another target then. it'll be dressed up as we're happy with our squad, but poch said "in and out" so we planned a purchase that hasn't come off. This. For whatever reason weve not been able to secure the player or players mopo wanted. Wonder if Osvaldo deal + Puncheon etc cost us our time and resource?
Sheaf Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 nearly all of teams we are now due to play have strengthened. we have not we shall see how the rest of the season goes Rival fans might have said the same thing about us last season when we signed Forren.
sotonist Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Maybe we were counting on a permanent sale to have funds to invest. Or counting on loaning a Juve forward but they didn't want to come? maybe... or it could even have been another timewaster like pablo, who didn't really want to join us.
redder freak Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Osvaldo didn't play against Arsenal and we did ok with what we've got. Arsenal are quite a good team, so that augurs well for the rest of the season. Then we can strengthen in the summer.
Faz Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 This. For whatever reason weve not been able to secure the player or players mopo wanted. Wonder if Osvaldo deal + Puncheon etc cost us our time and resource? What kind of tin pot club do you think we are??
Matthew Le God Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Juventus confirm possible future fee is €19m which is more than we paid for him as Saints won't now pay the full £15m to Roma as he won't play anymore games for us, plus... Simon Peach @SimonPeach 4m I am told Juventus will pay 100% of his wages &, while there is no loan fee, the possibility of selling for £15.6m is quite something. At least we've made the best out of a bad situation.
ottery st mary Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Some of you soooo called supporters:rolleyes: Not realising what a big club we are now... One of our lesser strikers loaned out to help Juventus out:p
Batman Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Rival fans might have said the same thing about us last season when we signed Forren. they might have done but as it is, every team bar Saints, Man City and SPurs have bought players in we have got weaker (as have spurs) at the mo
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Author Posted 31 January, 2014 What kind of tin pot club do you think we are?? We have a very inexperienced CEO.... 2 weeks into the job, cant be easy.
ART Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 There is still a vague hope, even after the deadline, of us signing an out of contract player from somewhere. Rather than all the bleating on and spouting complete nonsense how about giving that possibility a spin. This thread has to go down as proving how far this once top notch board once was.
Matthew Le God Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We have a very inexperienced CEO.... 2 weeks into the job, cant be easy. We got Juventus to sign a lunatic, pay 100% of his wages and agree to a potential €19m transfer (which means profit). I'd say Gareth Rogers has done quite well, wouldn't you?

I'd say Gareth Rogers has done quite well, wouldn't you? On the flip side we've given them a 15mill Italian international for free.
Matthew Le God Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 On the flip side we've given them a 15mill Italian international for free. On the flip side to that, we've probably improved team morale for the rest of the squad.
Pastor Patrón Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 On the flip side to that, we've probably improved team morale for the rest of the squad. No doubt. I'd agree itd be a fantastic outcome if he ends up going for the proposed fee but it's far from certain
SO16_Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Wow - nobody saw this one coming: @Bridgey1982: In an incredible turn of events, we could see #lambert playing at Craven Cottage on Saturday #saintsfc #fulham #DeadlineDay
Saint Billy Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We got Juventus to sign a lunatic, pay 100% of his wages and agree to a potential €19m transfer (which means profit). I'd say Gareth Rogers has done quite well, wouldn't you? Thats only if Osvaldo does not beat up half of Rome and Juv decide to keep him.
Jonnyboy Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We will finish 9th and won't win the FA cup. I think we can catch Newcastle and get to the FA Cup final, finish 8th and get into the Europa cup a la 2003.
Cestrian Saint Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 nearly all of teams we are now due to play have strengthened. we have not we shall see how the rest of the season goes Exactly. A season that promised so much has turned into a bit of a damp Squibb.
S-Clarke Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Exactly. A season that promised so much has turned into a bit of a damp Squibb. It hasn't though, has it? This is one of our best seasons in over a decade, we have one of the best teams I've had the privilege of watching in my saints lifetime. No, it's not a damp squib.
SB Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Huge lack of ambition shown, relying on Jay, Lambert and Gallagher..
DT Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Couple more injuries and we're really screwed. Thin squad. Ridding deadwood in preparation for sale? Happy we've retained the stars though. Perhaps it was all to keep Pochettino's interest
monosaint Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Same old people coming out with the same old stuff. People buying in the January window are panic buying. Every one knows that and so the market reflects that. I think we are able to remain calm and believe that we can continue to perform well. After Tuesday I can't see why not. Let the WHUs, Cardiffs etc. get on with it. Unless there is someone out there better than what we have then we should not panic buy.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 We got Juventus to sign a lunatic, pay 100% of his wages and agree to a potential €19m transfer (which means profit). I'd say Gareth Rogers has done quite well, wouldn't you? No not at all - when we have actually sold him, then maybe yes
DT Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 It's not panic buying to replace a terrible second choice goalkeeper who can't jump or command his box, an awful CB who when he plays enables opponents to pass him with ease (or watch him score an own goal) or prepare for the obvious loss of shaw in the summer by bedding in a new LB. Oh, and maybe get a replacement striker for an international worth £15m who we've loaned out until he hits someone else. But hey.
DT Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Panic buying is about who you're buying not who you're selling. What you've just asked for is a squad with next to no weaknesses. Whether you stick with saints or go elsewhere I don't think you're ever going to find it. Isn't that the point of trying to build a good squad? Get rid of the weaknesses?
Dellman Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 The dead wood has gone, the lunatic has gone, Targett has stepped up to the squad which will encourage the rest of the academy, no newcomer is struggling to fit in and everyone knows his role...in my book that means we have strengthened the squad.

I agree with this. Once Lovren is back we can look forward to the rest of this season with a lot of confidence.
Suhari Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 (edited) The dead wood has gone, the lunatic has gone, Targett has stepped up to the squad which will encourage the rest of the academy, no newcomer is struggling to fit in and everyone knows his role...in my book that means we have strengthened the squad. This. Plus young Sam has a chance to get a few games and goal under his belt. Great for his development, great for encouraging the other academy guys, and another great advert for us. I suspect we're going to be privileged to watch a lot more free-flowing, no-fear performances between now and the end of the season. Edited 31 January, 2014 by Suhari
ART Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 This has just freaked me out. http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/spfl/hearts-blocked-in-bid-to-recruit-rudi-skacel-1-3288328

WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 31 January, 2014 Posted 31 January, 2014 Well I hope to god Jrod or Lallana don't pick up a serious injury as we desperately need them to stay fit for the rest of the season now with no back up squad depth. We have a great first choice eleven but one of the weakest if not the weakest squads in the whole of the premiership with only quality back up players at right back and midfield. We are weak at goalkeeper, left back, centre backs, wingers, attacking midfield and upfront imo with our back up options at present taking into account our current injuries. Disappointed with getting rid of the deadwood why we haven't got at least one player in to give everyone a lift. Now suspicious that KL does want to sell the club kept the assets to get a better price but cost cutting elsewhere.
