Can anyone help me out on this one?

Standard. Press embargo it until after 11 when the papers are printed, they don't want stories coming out before then as it will stop people buying their papers.

Happens every week, which is why I find it a bit odd that the club have mentioned it.

He's speaking under embargo. Whatever he has told the newspaper journalists can not be made public until 11pm.

Presume it is either a signing or Osvaldo's departure. Or both.

this is standard procedure for midweek games. may tell written press something juicy but either way cannot be published until 11pm.

dont think we will announce anything like a signing or to do with osvaldo until after game tomorrow to avoid distractions

January is a notoriously hard time to buy players

Clubs simply DO NOT want to sell unless they have replacements lined up, which then results in a chain of transfers, 1 transfer doesn't go through it scuppers numerous deals further down the chain.

You then have agents\medicals\lawyers to deal with...

I find it incredible that fans STILL complain when we haven't signed someone...

"why haven't was signed a decent center back yet"

These fans should become agents, they obviously know of 20-30 quality footballers sat around on their arse doing nothing at their clubs, their clubs sat by the phone awaiting bids, players bags packed while they're sat at home waiting to move to their new club...

Yes Jan is a tougher market...but certainly not impossible

Newcastle did some great business this time last year and Cardiff look like they are doing some good business in this window...at least 5 new signings by the looks of it.

We don't need major surgery but we certainly need a lift after a tough couple of weeks...a centre back and striker would be nice...

If we want to stay in the top 10 and push for the FA Cup we need to keep improving...it's about time MoPo used his contacts in La Liga or Argentina to get some quality in

It will be even harder to sign someone months before the WC (assuming they are going) as if they have a stonking WC the price rises.

Would be good to see some movement as this has been the most boring window ever and anything Saints related has had nothing to do with transfers

"@olilewington: Uh-oh... RT @SouthamptonFC: Mauricio Pochettino is now speaking under embargo to the written press. More at 11pm #saintsfc"

"@SouthamptonFC: @olilewington Standard press conference procedure, Oli. Nothing to worry about! #saintsfc"

Just saw this on the saintsfc hashtag, confirms it's normal press conference procedure for those fretting...

'Cardiff look like they're doing good business'.

This sums it up. I'm not saying they aren't, but how much have you seen their Norwegian league signings play? Would you be excited if we'd signed Forren, like last year? That's the sort of player that is available, risks from lesser leagues, loans who can't get a game and poor players like Kenwynne Jones or Fabio.

Same as all those glorious Norwich signings in the summer, QPR the year before or Sunderland any summer.

Why is quantity over quality so important to so many football fans?

Spot on.

If there aren't players who will add genuine quality then why both signing anyone... I'd rather we made 3 signings a year if they were of the quality of Lovern, while other teams **** millions up the wall gambling on journeymen dross.

We have 2 serious injuries & a striker who may or may not play for us again (he may have class but hasn't contributed a great deal this season anyway) I see that as no reason to make signings a priority. I'd rather wait till the summer to sign another Lovern than sign a Forren now to give the fans a lift

We have a great youth setup, we need to have faith in the players coming through that academy otherwise there's no point investing in it.

We look like ending up 8th or 9th - without much chance of movement either way irrespective of signings. In that case we might as well keep our powder dry until the Summer when it seems better value signings are to be found.

...Although I guess at a long shot a January signing might help us win the Cup

:shakey:

I believe the board in so far they wont spend anymore money on players, why would they when all the signs are they want out?

i didn't think we was gonna make any january purchases, even before NC done one. I was ahead of the curve in this regards! Reckon we will buy in the summer tho, even if big kat ain't managed to offload the club yet.

I remember in the summer when Norwich and Swansea 'won' the transfer window.

I dont remember anyone saying Norwich won the transfer window.... Isnt that just something made up? Think some said they had picked up some bargains?

As for Swansea... I said Bony was better than Osvaldo, this was laughed at in typical SWF style.

Dont remember you saying anything about Bony, you banged on about the prolific RVW and Hooper though

Dont remember saying much about RVW... More lies?

Hooper on the other hand I thought was a good signing (for Norwich) & so far so good for him. Top goal scorer, fans love him and manager waxes lyrical about him. All for £4m too

To be fair, it was that boring Barry spack going on about how good Norwich's signings were and to be fair to him, I think a fair few people expected RVW especially to be pretty good in this league. But Norwich are cack.

I think the fact we are keeping hold of our star young players and the older come to that and not making signings, shows......

A) we do not think we will make the top 6 this season, but have enough with some luck to win the fa cup.

B) the club want to keep their assets and do not want to spend anymore money and the club will change hand in the summer.

C) there is not any players available to strengthen the squad, so we are leaving it.

I think b) but I also think we will see more of our younger players tried out and even more so when we get 9 more points.

Osvaldo has barely been involved though. Few goals but who knows how someone else would have done.

I'm intrigued to see Gallagher play more and think Rickie and JRod will remain dangerous. Guly is there too don't forget! If all else fails put Luke Shaw up front and tell him he's Gareth Bale. If he scored the media would go crazy and the value goes up and up.

There's a Danny Fox-shaped flaw in that plan! ;-)

Why is quantity over quality so important to so many football fans?

Short term fix. With one signing, we get all excited about it just one time. With 5 signings, we get excited 5 times!

I suppose also the chances of each player's success are increased the more signings you make. In a roundabout way. We thought we signed 3 quality players in the summer. 2 came off, 1 has largely flopped. 66% success rate. Last January we only signed Forren. Boom.

That's what I reckon anyway. I still prefer our transfer policy now, looking for the right players to strengthen a position, than the scattergun transfer policy of our relegation season in the CCC. (Although granted we have money to be choosier now.)

Heard that Saints had a scout at Easter Road at the weekend, watching Fraser Forster but impressed by Van Dijk. Source is a mate who coaches for another Prem team at youth level and is a Hibs diehard. Also said Derek Riordan is on his way back to Hibs. NEVER ever posted an ITK rumour on here so be gentle with me if it is a pile of bawbags.

Agree. Seems some fans just want signings for signings sake.

Not just us, see Sunderland this year, ok they may just stay up, but they have far from improved as a side for the 14(ish) signings they made.

Also, see QPR last season etc, etc.

Funny the team at the top made just one meaningful signing in the summer, despite cries from every angle telling them they needed rafts of new players.
