January 2014 Transfer news & rumours

Be nice to hear a rumour or two...get the impression we're not even looking for anyone, and we need 1 or 2, pretty light in squad depth right now.

Don't see how when can when the new board are busy getting the management structure right off the field, according to them.

Well this is most important and it isn't the end of the world if we don't being anyone in, but it's gunna be a sh1t 2nd half of the season if we're stuck with current lot and injuries/ Osvaldo incident.

Looks like we may be in for a forward now?

From what has already been said by the Manager/SFC, we were not going to be buying anyone in January

With the exit of Cortese and the (still) relative uncertainty as to Leibherrs future policy, that situation has not changed one iota

In other words, we sink or swim with what we have

IMHO, far from Buying anyone, I think there will be a mass Exodus in the summer, once the players realise that Leibherr HAS come to the end of the road as far as further progression is concerned

Don't slag me off too much...... come the summer you may have to change your mind

Mayuka has been back for a while? Thought he was injured

I'm pretty sure Mayuka is on a season long loan. This generally means a loan fee and no recall.

Incidentally, he has scored 3 for Sochaux in 14 appearances. All goals came in November. Last match he played was last week - 18 Jan.

Thats the type of player we should look at - wasting money on unproven prem players that need 2 years to settle is a waste of time.

Like J-Rod who has increased his value and is playing well or Nathaniel Clyne who has done the same? Perhaps you're referring to Dejan Lovren or Wanyama who have both been very good or Schneiderlin who was roundly criticised in his first two seasons in the lowewr leagues but is now one of our more sellable assets?

I'd rather have our transfer policy than one of signing premier league has beens like certain clubs.

Not according to some -

Lets put it this way, if JRod wss plying his trade in the Championship now, how much would we expect pay based on his current form? Not £20m...I would argue more like £5m to be honest.

You also know Im a big supporter of the championship and championship players - there are a number capable of making the step up. id prefer that than continuing or Italian / expensive obsession.

Look a few posts up - Kasper Schmeichel + Tom Ince are two players id love to see here (for example)

A quick move for John Terry might shore up the defense. Seems he's resigned to leaving Chelsea and wouldn't be the first top player to end his career with Saints.

Think he would be great for a season maybe two. Would cover our slender resources at CB.

we dont need anyone

I think we do. Still need GK cover/someone to push Boruc, CB to cover for injuries/push Lovren and Fonte-the-bruised, LB to hit the ground running for when Shaw leaves (inevitably), and a new striker, because Rickie is well past his best/well into his sulky period/off to West Ham, Osvaldo is a useless loon, and Rodriguez needs to be more clinical/stop fluffling one on ones. AIMHO of course

This. There are some top players playing in the Championship (and even League One) which could make the step up, if reasonably priced (although domestically you always pay a bit over the odds) AND there's the luxury of a lower expectation to do well, even though they probably will. Theres also the point that they'd be more hungry to play in the top league.

Saints have proved that they're not great and splashing big money on foreigners. Some of our best players have cost comparatively little. Davis, Clyne and of course Rickie were steals.

You will get the standard SWF response of "If they were that good they would have been signed already"

But youre right some of our best signings have made cost comparatively little.

Championship and league 1 has some great talent - of the top of my head

Anthony Knockaert

Jordan Rhodes

Charlie Austin

Danny Ings

Will Hughes

Tom Ince

Liam Bridcutt

Liam Moore

Troy Deeney

Kasper Schmeichel

beyond that you've got players like Ryan Gauld at Dundee United

2 + 2 = 5 in this case as the sole reason the deal was called off was due to protest from Inter supporters who like the idea of the club straight swapping one of their key players for one of Juve's bench warmers

Wouldn't Inter and their fans be more be likely to want Osvaldo over Vucinic and that could be the reason Inter pulled the plug on Vucinic after events at Saints this week?

No because the Vucinic situation happened before this Osvaldo situation, pure coincidence and it would have certainly gone through if details of the deal were not leaked (Their new owner/president mistakenly thought transfers could be kept quiet in Italy). Of course it's a lucky break for us as it means Inter are still looking for a striker.

When did the Vucinic U-turn happen? Because the Osvaldo/Fonte fight didn't happen yesterday, it was earlier in the week.
