Smirking_Saint Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 I'd like to see us go for a couple of players on loan as January is never the best time to buy the right players at a good price. That way if they make an impact we can look at signing them permanently in the summer. john Guidetti to give us the centre forward we need, Wilfiried Zaha to give us the right winger, pace and the ability to go past a man Ryan Bertrand to give us competition and cover at right back. All three of them need game time and been talked about as potential loans - and we need the players - and I'm sure we'd be a more attractive proposition as a destination for their parent clubs than most of the other clubs in the premier league. We're not challenging any if them for the top four, we play good football and we're not struggling at the bottom - yet. We also need a centre back but I think we are just going to have to buy one of them - Albert Botia or Hector Moreno from Spain would do dor me. Apart from the fact we dont need a winger or a striker and Bertrand is a Left back ?
SuperMikey Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 Looks like Jelavic is off to Hull. His career gone off the boil quickly, was the darling of Everton a couple of seasons back. I did say when he joined Everton that he would be a flash in the pan, watched him a few times in person when he played in Scotland and aside from being a decent finisher he lacks pace, strength and aerial ability, and doesn't hold the ball up. Martinez needs somebody who can replace Lukaku at the end of the season as the focal point of his attack, and Jelavic is not that person.
kpturner Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 All of those you mention wouldnt get the game time their clubs would want. We would end up improving them for those teams as well. No thanks. All of those.......who? You didn't quote post so how are we to know who you are talking about?
Saint Charlie Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 All of those.......who? You didn't quote post so how are we to know who you are talking about? The post above mine. Guidetti, Zaha, Bertrand.
Saint_Tony Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 Signing players on loan who are no better than what we already have? That's a great strategy, we'll be in the Champions League in no time
wild-saint Posted 11 January, 2014 Posted 11 January, 2014 glasgow back posting on the forum but avoiding this thread like the plague. only another 400 threads to go and we are thrush free.

Batman Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Typical! Imagine United will get Astori and Benega we need to avoid Serie A, right?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 12 January, 2014 Author Posted 12 January, 2014 we need to avoid Serie A, right? Why?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 12 January, 2014 Author Posted 12 January, 2014 Moyes watching Cagliari v Juventus today - allegedly interested in Astori. Boo
Olallana Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Searching for this Benega guy on transfermakt.co.uk.... Well...let United have any of them...
Rebel Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Apart from the fact we dont need a winger or a striker and Bertrand is a Left back ? Your right I meant left back - Fox has to go and we need someone to provide cover for Shaw for now as he shouldn't be playing ever game. And if you've actually watched Saints lately you'd see we are desperate for a centre forward come striker who can finish things of in the box and lead the line. We also need pace up front and width on the right - something Zaha would give us. Lallana drifts in to the middle and plays as a number 10 meaning we have no one on the right. We should play him in the hole behind the striker and bring in a wide right forward.
SaintRichmond Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Moyes watching Cagliari v Juventus today - allegedly interested in Astori. He was at fault with JUve's equaliser ....... so we might have to pay £5M more now
SuperSAINT Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 The post above mine. Guidetti, Zaha, Bertrand. Guidetti in advanced talks with Stoke over a loan move, according to SKY.
Rebel Posted 12 January, 2014 Posted 12 January, 2014 Apparently Saints scouts are at the Benfica v Porto game. I wonder who they are watching? Rodrigo Moreno Machado perhaps?
SuperSAINT Posted 13 January, 2014 Posted 13 January, 2014 Reading make "substantial" bid for Hobbs at Hull. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25712687 You'd imagine they'd have the ££'s to put an offer in for Sharp.
speed demon Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 SSN this morning saying we're after some geezer called Diego and that Poch hopes to tie up a deal. Embarrassed to admit I haven't got a clue who this is - anyone got any ideas?
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 SSN this morning saying we're after some geezer called Diego and that Poch hopes to tie up a deal. Embarrassed to admit I haven't got a clue who this is - anyone got any ideas? Ex Wolfsburg, Atletico Madrid and Juve (I think). Brazilian playmaker. Was brilliant. Still pretty good I think.

We should play him in the hole behind the striker and bring in a wide right forward. But our attacking midfielders draw in for a reason as it creates space for our fullbacks to get forward, which is where our natural width comes from. Though I wouldnt mind a pacy wide man on the bench I dont see MoPo utilising him enough as he is pretty steadfast with the way that he plays things. Itll probably be Rowe or Isgrove giving the pace options I imagine. As for The LB issue, I agree we need cover, I wonder if we can get a left sided CB that can cover here Also not entirely sure we need another striker unless we have given up on Lambert, our lack of creativity, or moreso our resistance to provide anything towards our main striker is the real issue.

Window Cleaner Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 odd one not really, considering the number of high, diagonal balls that they pump into the opponents box in the vague hope that Benteke will get on the end of some of them,as they did against Arsenal yesterday, you could see them signing a Holt type player.

Matthew Le God Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 But anyone seen this? Sky Sports News @SkySportsNews 4m Wigan confirm striker Grant Holt is undergoing medical at Aston Villa #SSN odd one Is it? £7m signing Kozak has broken his leg and is out for the rest of the season, so Paul Lambert has signed a target-man striker (admittedly on the decline) on loan that he knows well to cover Benteke.

St Mary’s boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to land one of the two wingers as he prepares to cash-in on Jason Puncheon, who is on loan at Crystal Palace, and Italian Gaston Ramirez.

Convict Colony Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 Think I preferred the Diego rumour, younger than I thought he was (28) and has an average rating of 7.85 for Wolfsburg this year which compared to our best Lovren 7.41 would be an awesome additional in the central playmaker position especially since he is on a free in summer. Obligatory youtube and he looks gucci

Saint_Tony Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 Moses would be a decent signing, not getting much game time at Liverpool and doesn't appear to be part of Chelsea's plans.

Can't help but think that Maya could be going with him, looks like they got on well. public knowledge really 16K a week in the NPC rising to 25K /wk in the Pl. His unproductive shift here cost us 2 million £ less the loan spell at Tokyo FC and plus any signing on fee. Tad Lee is just proof of just how good you have to be to be a PL regular.

SuperSAINT Posted 14 January, 2014 Posted 14 January, 2014 MP denied interest in Diego ages ago. Yeah, Poch is pretty straight forward on transfer deals. Has he misled us before on anything?
Glasgow_Saint Posted 16 January, 2014 Author Posted 16 January, 2014 Hull are doing some decent business - Nikica Jelavić and Shane Long for combined £10m Great signings for them
Saint Garrett Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Hull are doing some decent business - Nikica Jelavić and Shane Long for combined £10m Great signings for them Not convinced I agree! Lot of money for them. Also, wasn't Long £7m and Jelavic £7.5m? It's good if they can start scoring goals, but neither have done that in 2013.
skintsaint Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Hull are doing some decent business - Nikica Jelavić and Shane Long for combined £10m Great signings for them I'd be annoyed if Saints purchased them for that amount. Not exactly goalscorers lately..think 3 or 4 between them this season? And 2 of those in one game.
shirleysfc Posted 16 January, 2014 Posted 16 January, 2014 Hull are doing some decent business - Nikica Jelavić and Shane Long for combined £10m Great signings for them should we be copying them like we should have been copying Norwich in the summer??
