Wanyama

I think Artur will being having a few words - he clearly indicated that Vic should pass the ball square to the right back position but instead he turned into trouble. Probably nothing more than youthful over-confidence; he should learn from this, and at least it didn't affect the result.

Dont think his head was in the game after we went a couple up, his touch/passes were a bit sloppy, and then after the mistake for the goal he didnt really seem to put much effort into pressing. Has been immense in many games for us but he had a shocker today.

The substitution was tactically perfect as Wanyama's role of protecting the back four and breaking up play was not required, due to Hull sitting pretty deep !

Davis brought more forward momentum and energy so the shape became more effective !

All IMHO of course !

You never really see if a player is a bit unfit except that their performance drops a bit. I thought Shaw was struugling a bit against Fulham but back to 100% today, but this time it was Victor's turn. Surprised we didn't swap him at half time as the game was won. Still, we can let him have that one today & hopefully he will learn from it.

Well he hid this back problem pretty well because you'd (well I would anyway) never have guessed - good lad.

However although it seems churlish to voice any criticisms after such a fine performance, with midfielders of the quality of Jack Cork and Steve Davis available on the bench perhaps VW should have been subbed earlier. Be that as it may, the one thing you could never accuse MP of is not knowing his best team because PL selection has been remarkably consistent this season. MP is obviously the type of manager who is loath to change things unless he is forced into it. Seeing the results he's getting, who on here would dare say he's wrong in that?

Everyone in the stadium could see that VW was clearly at fault for their goal, but as he has surely played a big part in getting this team where it is tonight methinks - just like Artur last week - we can forgive him the odd mistake now and then. Success is funny thing, it brings a unprecedented sense of magnanimity along with it.

Thought he had a strong first half myself, and played a couple of short passes that split Hull's defense wide open which I haven't seem him do till now, and Morgan seems to have sorted out how to play alongside him.

Bad mistake for their goal though, and good on MP to sub him when he did.

I'm so looking forward to seeing a fully fit VW against Arsenal and Chelsea in a few weeks - fully expect him to boss both games.

He hardly made one pass all day that went to a red shirt. But as above off day in an otherwise decent season so far

Disagree, in the 1st half he made a number of excellent forward passes.

Thought his first half was good. Seemed absent in the second. Goal was a silly lapse of concentration

This.

Well just for the record his pass completion today was as follows:

First half: 27/32 (84%)

Second half: 5/6 (83%)

Watching it on MotD last night, I felt more inclined to blame Boruc than Wanyama.

I think there was a realisation in Boruc's reaction after he kicked it to Wanyama that he had made the wrong choice of pass out (hence gesticulating for Wanyama to quickly pass it out to the right)

Why didn't Boruc kick it out to the player on his own on the right (Fonte?) in the first place of that was the safest route out of defence? Yes, Wanyama could have done better but Boruc could have played a safer ball too.

He made a few mistakes, which were more noticeable because every other player was almost flawless (including all 3 subs by the way). Hopefully will take it on the chin, recover from his back problem and return to the levels he hit against Fulham and Stoke. I get the feeling he will be our key player in the next couple of games - if he does the job we know he can then we can get something from both of them. Have to say however that I was hugely impressed by JWP's versatility and his ability to drop into VW's role on occasions after he went off, as well as turning up on our right side when needed to support Clyne's bombing runs forward.

Sorry, can't agree. We've done it in game after game, it's a clear part of our game where possible, to pass short to Morgan or Vic, to start play from there, and it's never been a problem before. Wanyama wanted the ball, and even just by taking a first touch, he would've at least had his body between the man and the ball, but he made the worst possible decision, to allow it to run across him, to try and move forward with it.

It was a misjudgement on Wanyama's part and, to be fair, a great finish. He's had a couple of similar close shaves and he will learn from it. The sentiment on the thread is right, he doesn't deserve a mauling and should be proud of what he has achieved so far, but such mistakes can make a big difference, especially in games against fellow top sides.

agree minty

we had been doing it all game (and in others).

The 2 CBs go wide, the full backs go forward with either morgan or vic coming to get the ball. enticing the parked bus to come at us a little.

Boruc gave him the ball and pointed to where he needed to play it. He had plenty of time to make a casual pass to fonte. he never and they scored.

guess that is the difference from playing in the prem than against ross county

he has been very good in recent weeks and only a mistake in the last two games cock ups by us is what is going against us otherwise it would have been another 2 clean sheets.

MP has said many times, the way we play means we take greater risks and I guess, we paid for it a little there.

Hopefully, vic learns from it

Had a bad one yesterday, but it's easy to forget that he's still bloody young. His presence on the pitch is as such, he looks a lot older than he actually is! He will make the little rickets every now and then whilst he's maturing, but I think we've got one hell of a CM here.

Yep, fair point. Thinking out loud was never my strong point :)
