Lallana

I burst into tears when he scored today. Can't really explain why. Think I was thinking back to that horrible relegation season with Poortvelt, when Lallana, obviously a class act, was getting too easily shoved off the ball and the team was floundering... and now look at him! So brilliant to see someone who's stayed loyal to the club and been right down to the bottom with us, finally get the recognition he deserves. It's the proudest I've felt of a Saints player since Le Tissier.

I stand by my criticisms of him at the end of last season and the beginning of this. He DID take too many touches. I found that to be frustrating as it slowed us down.

Now, with such a sense of belief and confidence flowing through the entire team it seems he now has full belief in his own ability and as someone posted elsewhere he knows what he can do and goes out and does it. I am happy to say my criticism of him is no longer valid.

His speed of thought has always been exceptional, now his body is keeping up with him and (barring more knocks) maybe our Messi song won't sound so stupid when it is sung in Brazil.

Now, once JRod reaches that same supreme confidence ability as well..............

Jesus H, we could still get better

Made me lol on motd when Morgan was smiling and saying Adams goal was like something Messi would do.

What a sheer joy it is to see one of 'ours' come so far in the game and play so brilliantly at the highest domestic level.

Adam has always been blessed with an exceptional attitude, energy level, and ability to control a football at pace. Last season it may have taken him a little while to adapt to the burden of captaincy and not always being the best player on the pitch anymore. Injury may also have hampered him. But I never thought for one moment that he was nearly as bad as some on here - yes I'm thinking of you Roger - claimed he was.

The next big step of course is international football. Playing so well (quite literally) right in front of Roy Hodgeson today he could not possibly have done his case any harm at all. Indeed, if the collective will of St Marys could help him force his way into the national side then he'd already be there.

He wasn't good last season, don't rewrite history. At the moment he looks like messi and has got ten times faster.

I am pleased that it wasn't just me. Like you I think that it was because it was the final confirmation that he is a great player.

I remember his debut against Preston. He didn't do much then. I remember my dismay when it was announced that he had been thinking of a transfer not long before Markus tookover. Good riddance was my feeling at the time. League 1 was clearly the making of him as I do remember my joy when news emerged of him signing a long term contract just before we played Blackpool in the Cup. Since then he has gradually got better and better.

Somewhere in this forum there is a post of mine from League 1 days which predicted that he could become a Saints legend like MLT. I think my prediction may be coming right. In the same way as there are now many 20 year old sons of Southampton fans called "Matthew", I predict that in a few years time there will be a surfeit of "Adam"s in the Southampton area.

Saints legend

..in the making, if his current form continues.

He has been frustrating to watch over the last couple of seasons as at times he's tried to be over elaborate and there has often been no end product. Thankfully with maturity and experience he has become a lot more effective, and he is delivering in the top flight.

Well done AL, off to Brazil I hope after a great season at Saints.

That said, I wonder if Hansen might have been so glowing in his praise as Alan Shearer was, or would he have been lambasting the Hull defence for not getting a tackle in blah, blah.

No. He was very good last year until he got injured, that injury hurt him and he's now back to his best. Awesome performance today and this season in general. Talent

Correct - although 'back to his best' suggests we have ever seen him play quite this well before, and we haven't. He's now doing to PL defenders what he was doing in L1 and the Championship. He had a frustrating time towards the end of last season but I never doubted how good he was - he has such good feet and can turn past defenders so easily. We don't have anyone else like him, and haven't for years. Absolutely delighted to see him getting the plaudits now.
