Luke Shaw: Saints are the club for me

Luke sounds pretty Shaw about his future.

Good news. Far cry from the days when the players used to want to get the first train out.

We certainly seem to have moved on from the days when we so easily lost players to clubs of the like of Everton and Villa. Its still a challenge to keep the really big boys at bay, January and next summer will show the true resolve of the club in hanging on to our players, but no doubt that we're better prepared than ever before to keep them. Whether that's enough or not, time will tell. Certainly hope so.

The guy who sits behind me at work is an Arsenal fan and I always hear him taking about footie. As he lives in London I assumed he went so when I got my ticket for our away game the other day I thought I'd see where abouts he sat in the ground. Naturally it turns out he doesn't go, but as my questions had alerted him to the fact I was a saints season holder he started talking about which of our players he was hoping they'd buy when the January window opens (Shaw naturally being one of them). As for the game in a couple of weeks, it didn't even register with him when I suggested that these days Saints have a better chance of winning. He wasn't even swayed when I mentioned we'd beaten Liverpool at Anfield and drawn at old trafford recently. He only sees them ripping us apart, he was so sure that I couldn't even be bothered to try talk about it with him

It's great to hear but lets not be naive, players love it here because they are being paid a sh!t load of cash.

Now maybe but Luke's been here since he was eleven. Players like that (even the likes of Bale and Walcott) have an affinity with the club, even if, as in all their cases, they don't come from the area.

To be fair if you watch the whole interview he comes across brilliantly and you can tell he loves it here.

Interesting he gets the **** taken out of him by the other players because of his closeness to MP.

No one likes a teachers pet, when he's captaining Chelsea to the champions league in 2023 he'll say his bullying at saints made him the man he is.

True, but unless you pay a sh!t load of cash that affinity doesn't count for much.

agree this is a phrase that continually repeated by all the media hacks.......(and they can stop ranting about Wenger signing Schneiderlin) as well.

I'm really looking forward to the next two away games.....Chelsea and Arsenal.

Perhaps two of the toughest away fixtures we'll have, but it will be the ultimate test of how good a side we have become and how good we really are.

For my money, getting one point from each game would be a satisfactory answer.....

When asked who has helped him the most the last year, his answer will surprise most:

Danny Fox.

A lot of advice and encouragement and they've become really close, despite Shaws initial assumption that overtaking Fox in the team would make Fox want to be a bit distant.

I think Danny Fox realises that his days are numbered, but (if true) he's showing a good side to his nature by giving Luke advice and tips.....for the good of the club.

We could all make a short list (or a long one) of Fox's shortcomings, but he does have a "gritty" side to his game and doesn't flinch from tackles....something you see more in Luke's game now, as well.

I find it encouraging that a man who surely knowsthat he condemned to the bench for the rest of his club career, should go out of his way to " help " his successor. Nice one Danny.

Part of being a senior pro - no?

Did you pass up the opportunity to wind him up by mentioning the players in their team that you thought we should buy? And then you could tell him that on reflection you didn't think that they would add anything to what we already have. And if there are several players in our team that he thinks they should buy, then surely the implication is that they are better than what they have in those positions, so why will they rip us apart when they play our team containing those players? They couldn't beat us last January under Adkins, and arguably we are changed for the better more than them since.

And to finish, you could point out that the days of Saints acting as Arsenal's academy are now over and that Wenger would have to realise that and begin looking elswhere.
