stevegrant Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 For no apparent reason. Excellent. ****ing glad I'd already decided not to bother with that trip, otherwise the train tickets I would have already booked would have been rather wasted. trousers Posted 8 November, 2013 Author Share Posted 8 November, 2013 On the slightly positive side, it now means we've got 2 days between the Cardiff and Everton away games over Christmas rather than the original 1 day... (although 2 days instead of 3 between Everton and Chelsea of course)

The two clubs have agreed to move the clash at Goodison Park to allow for additional preparation time following their respective games on Boxing Day. The match, which will not be broadcast on live television, was originally scheduled to kick off at 3pm on Saturday 28 December.

WHY has it been done at relatively short notice yet again, when it could have been sorted out weeks and weeks ago? That's another set of train tickets f*cking wasted. Sour Mash Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 After the Sunderland cup game debacle, this takes the ****ing p**s now, load of us with wasted hotel and train bookings, just another example they really don't give a f**k about our travelling fans. trousers Posted 8 November, 2013 Author Share Posted 8 November, 2013 Gentlemen's agreement between the clubs, nice. Indeed. I would imagine it was us pushing for this rather than Everton as they've got two home games over Christmas, so there wasn't really an incentive for them to widen the gap between the two. So, yep, good of Everton (in footballing terms) to agree to the move, but totally agree with everyone else that this could have been foreseen and agreed months ago... JRM Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 This is disgraceful. Complete contempt for the travelling away fan - who book up tickets in advance for trains in order to get affordable fares. SKY and BT Confirmed all their games for December back in early October! fans should then be able to rely on the fixture list, but no, what a complete f*ck up by the club

Graffito Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 I won't be going. Trains are £68 from Euston. Incidentally I think it's poor that the OS can't even be bothered to explain the change in it's notification. The match has been "pushed back with one other BPL fixture". http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/festive-everton-trip-pushed-back-1163328.aspx? Window Cleaner Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 At a guess I'd say it's all about teams with 2 away games not playing away on Thursday and again on Saturday. Saints are away twice as are Arsenal,Liverpool and Stoke and now all are away on the Sunday and not 2 on Sunday and 2 on Saturday. so for the players and supporters there's a 2 full day break between the games to allow for deplacements. Sheaf Saint Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 If there was any common sense in the world, the club would use some of the away fans fund to reimburse those fans that have already paid for travel/accommodation.

stevegrant Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 I never travel by train, are you guys who have booked tickets able to get a refund? Not with advance fares, usually. It's the trade-off with getting the cheapest deal and it being non-refundable if something like this happens, but with the TV games having been announced a month ago, and no other word that they wanted to reschedule it, it seemed safe to book tickets for the Saturday. Griffo Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 I won't be going. Trains are £68 from Euston. If booked well in advance like we do (not before TV games have been announced) then we got it for 25/30 quid ish from Euston. We make sure to be careful so b*llocks like this doesn't happen and now they've gone and changed it anyway. Could have been done ages ago. I never travel by train, are you guys who have booked tickets able to get a refund? No refunds on advanced fares, no. Might be able to change the tickets but it has a cost of £10 per single, so if it's possible to change them, it'll cost £20.

Berkshire Saint Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 Just checked and the usual Virgin trains out of Euston to Lime Street aren't running until 11.15 on that day (not getting in until 1404). The only one that will get you to Liverpool in time for the game includes a bus replacement to Watford and a change at Birmingham New Street...that leaves Euston at 0704 so I can't even get there for then. This will seriously inconvenience London area Everton fans. Utterly ridiculous from both clubs.

saints_is_the_south Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 It's things like this and the Sunderland debacle that make not bothering and just going down a boozer in town to watch games more appealing all the time. The two clubs clearly haven't even bothered contemplating the affect on fans when making this decision. How much would it have taken for them think about things like when advance rail fares go on sale, and try to make the decision before then? Nowt but common sense and some respect for the supporters. saints_is_the_south Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 Exactly what most the lads I go with are thinking, add on the use of the £200k away fund. Yep, that as well has just been another kick in the teeth to those who travel away. When the club(s) are treating fans with the contempt they are it really is time to start asking is it all worth it. The getting up at stupid o'clock, not getting back til late and the £100+ spent in between on travel, match tickets and money for the day. Or have a nice lay in on a Saturday morning, get up and down the boozer for midday and spend a fraction of the cost that you would usually on an away day. Our group hasn't even bothered with Arsenal this year when last season and London games in years before were 'unmissable' for us.
Griffo Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 Just checked myself and apart from getting a train from Euston that gets into Lime Street 15 mins before KO, it's not possible by train now. F*ck sake.
The9 Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 I think we should all accept the club doesn't need fans and just stop going. We can be the first club to win the Champions League in front of a half-empty stadium, go Cortese.
LGTL Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 Shock horror, the regular away fan being treated like ****. Luckily the trains don't bother us as the group of 4 or 5 of us take it in turns to drive. They'd soon miss us if we all ****ed off.
M271 Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 If you can get to Watford Junction there is a 8.10 which gets into Liverpool Lime Street at 12.21, bit long and tortuous but return is quicker/better. £62 if you buy 2 singles, which is cheaper than return ticket. Griffo Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 7.04 from Euston, bus to Watford, then change at Birmingham. Would cost 20 quid to change the tickets, as well as paying the difference so that's 40 quid this will have set me back if I choose this. Changing the fixture late is annoying, but even more so moving it to 1.30. What's wrong with 3pm if it's not on the TV?!

Lord Duckhunter Posted 8 November, 2013 Share Posted 8 November, 2013 What a load of ****. Meant to be meeting an evertonian mate who emigrated and is back for Xmas, and now this has really ****ed it up, im on call the Sunday night, so need to be back in area, sober for 8pm. ****ing great reunion, 15 mins before ko and stright back or drive and 2 pints. Just glad I didn't get my act together and book train tickets. Seriously the league should do something about this. Everybody understands that fixtures change for tv, but once the tv games are announced they should stick to ko times except in exceptional circumstances. These are not exceptional circumstances, the gap between the Cardiff game and this was clear the day the fixtures were released . They should have done it then, not ****ing now. alehouseboys Posted 9 November, 2013 Share Posted 9 November, 2013 Fans sh*t on yet again. Not that this would suit some of us but this is crying out for the 'away supporters fund' being used to lay on free coaches. I bet Everton are laughing their b*ll*cks off, a top end of table clash and they've just got Saints to agree with wiping out a big chunk of their travelling support.
