Rickie, Adam and J-Rod in England squad

With Welbeck injured, Defoe out of favour and Sturridge "possibly" nursing an injury Jrod Rickie and Adam Lallana will NEVER get a better chance than this to start an International match for England.

Roy is obliged to start all three IMO - has no real choice anymore having picked them for his squad. Why would you NOT start all three knowing how well they link up together at club level? Is'nt one of the benefits being there understanding?

All the great World Cup teams were great club teams at heart. Starting with West Ham in 1966 but Juventus in 1982 and 2006, Barcelona in 2010, Bayern Munich in 1974 and 1990 etc....it might be Southampton in 2014 or 2018......:-)

Now read that Carrick has an Achilles problem....(the lads dunked him in the bath whilst holding his ankles) ...and (somewhere else)..... that Sturridge and Gerrard were also doubtful ??:badger:

OF COURSE they're injured....You don't really think they've sussed out that they're going to be on the bench for two matches - and "cried off " do you?

If Roy starts the game with our three up front, and were 3-0 up at half-time........ he can take them off then, and give the others a go.

I still can't believe JRod's in the England squad! I'm delighted for him of course, but he wasn't in the best of form at the start of the season. I hope Woy persists with him, as I see him as a long term option.

Lallana and Lambert I'm not surprised about.

So excited for Friday, and for once I'm not working and can watch it.

Yeah,SkySports reporting that Jay Rod has already been told he is playing, as he is Welbeck's deputy (so says Roy). Of course, we demand that Rickie play alongside him. Why play Jay on his own without Rickie, when they are a strike pairing. And Adz must be a shoo-in after Roy saw that last Saturday. Play all three, Roy. You know it makes sense.

Personally I'd like to see J-Rod starting alongside Rooney. I want to see him in something resembling a 'real' England team.

J-Rod------------Rooney-----------Lallana

What a front 4 that would be.

Saints bias aside, the England side is starting to develop some really good attacking players IMO.

Our problem is in defence, especially at right back. For me, Clyne is the only English right back who can defend as well as attack.

Think Woy would prefer to give Townsend more game time on the right in tandem with Walker

I would think AL would be more likely to be played in the Rooney role so Wayne only plays one of the friendlies to keep Man Ure happy

Yeah, shame none of the fullbacks in the tightest defence in the Premier League are English, innit?

Gerrad and Walker now out...

More chance for all 3 starting maybe?

Also I read somewhere that Roy won't call up replacements for injuries, but wouldn't it be nice if this creates an opening for Clyne. But we all know he'd rather an out of position Jones or Smalling instead.

It will be interesting to see if Hodgson does play all three at the same time, and how he varies his teams in the games v South American Chile and European Germany.

Chile really are a good side. they have qualified for the World Cup and recent results suggest they stand a good chance to beat England, especially one with a experimental side.

recent results for them this year include;

15/10 - Chile 2v1 Ecuador

11/10 - Columbia 3v3 Chile

10/09 - Spain 2 v 2 Chile

06/09 - Chile 3 v 0 Venezuela

14/08 - Chile 6v 0 Iraq

11/06 - Chile 3v1 Bolivia

07/06 - Paraguay 1v2 Chile

24/04 - Brazil 2v2 Chile

26/03 - Chile 2v0 Uruguay

they are going on to play Brazil in Canada next Tuesday so perhaps will rest some players for that.

You don't seriously think we are going to steam role Chile do you? They are a damn fine side.

i think there is an element of complaceny here, England could well lose this game, and all the positive media reports at the moment won't neccessarily stop our players being blamed for it!

Was disappointed to read that Wilshire might only play v chile but not v germany - so HE CAN BE RESTING HIS ANKLE AND BE FIT IN TIME TO PLAY FOR ARSENAL V SAINTS...

AM I THE ONLY MUG WHO THINKS ITS A GREAT HONOUR TO BE ASKED LET ALONE PLAY FOR YOUR COUNTRY? Long after he has bought his nth ferrari and sitting back in one of his numerous luxury homes dotted across the world will he be able to know that the country was proud of him?

That's why i was so happy for Rickie. Rickie respects the privilege and the honor of selection. The chances of Rickie crying off injured in any game let alone an England game are incredibly small. He is not immune to niggles and strains though. Compare that to many, many other players in the England squad and periphery. Its a joke and a disgrace. The whole country is desperate to believe in english footballing heroes, wholesome players that kids mums grandads and aunties can admire and look up to. To see so many not available for england yet playing 90 minutes three days in EPL later sickens me. I would'nt give them the second chance no matter how "good" they are.

Dropping like flies now...Gerrard and Walker join Welbeck and Carrick and Sturridge is delicate.........its like some players are calculating "have i done enough to get to Rio - and will playing against Chile improve or reduce those chances?....Because being made to look like muppets by chile will damage players chances whereas a win at Wembley - well its kind of expected so whats new? And the team will change for Germany in any case against whom a loss means nothing much .....so Chile is the nothing to gain for more established squad players and everything to lose match....its so obvious....You wont get to Rio based upon playing well against Chile - but you might rule yourself out in that match is what I'm thinking....I SO hope we start the Southampton three together. They will want to win, and win well, not fart arsing around trying to "look good" by not trying anything or making mistakes. I am concerned that some of the other players wont pass to the new boys too....but if theres three Saints we should be able to sort that out...Play fearlessly lads!!!!

You are not alone in that Giordano. I ahve always maintained that I would rather watch a bunch of kids work their ******** off, and fail, than watch some of the prima donnas we have had in the past, and present, as you know the kids play with pride. I enjoy watching Rickie, and AL and J-Rod, not just because of bias, as from my team, but the pride, deligfht and enjoyment they will show, and the shift they will put in, cpmpared to the likes of Rooney et al, who will ALLWAYS be picked, and who expect to be picked, no matter how badly or without conviction they play. The say we have no real replacement for Joe Hart. Have they tried the Championship? as they have 3 ex - Championship, and ex-league one, Players in their squad.

Usual "big club" behaviour for friendly internationals, just think we'll be able to pull our lads out of the England squad next year for broken fingernails and scratched knees, we'll be a "big club" by then..

I think Roy will want to see Lallana with the 'first team' against Germany so I'm expecting something like this for Chile:

-----------Rickie-----------

JRod-----Henderson or Barkley or Cleverley-----Milner

And then something like this for Germany:

--------------Sturridge--------------

Lallana-------Rooney-------Townsend

Saints will have 4 players minimum in Brazil, mark my words.

I agree to some extent with your sentiments. England over the last decade or so have been completely disappointing in every way. I think things are improving however under Roy.

I don't think you can use Rooney as a good example here. He seems to be the most consistent of the England players and I would say gives 100% every game. Shame he doesn't wear a Saints shirt - just imagine the effect he'd create in a top pressing side.

Rooney has been fantastic for England throughout these world cup qualifiers. If he carries it on I can see him being made captain when Gerrard retires.

I hope he's fit for the Arsenal game... which is much bigger & much more important than a friendly against Chile.

Makes you question the training regime with England. Luke Shaw always gets knobbled when away with them - now Lambert & several others.

3 of the 4 times Shaw has withdrawn from the U21s he did so before getting to train with England.

England should use Saints training ground and staff. Then they might even get a full team on the pitch.

Hodgson was evasive when pressed on his possible team for the game at Wembley on Friday, but he did confirm that the in-form Southampton duo of Adam Lallana and Jay Rodriguez would feature.

"I have spoken to the Southampton boys [Lallana and Rodriguez] and let them know that they will be involved," added the England boss, who confirmed their Southampton colleague Rickie Lambert has joined Steven Gerrard and Kyle Walker on the absentee list after picking up a 'minor' injury in training.

Involved can mean anything from starting the game to a cameo 3 minute sub appearance at the end, hope he means the former. On other news, gutted that it seems Rickie would not play a part this international break :/
