Today in South Coast football... 5 Southampton players surrounding an England shirt. 5 Portsmouth players surrounding a dustbin. Posted on Twitter by both clubs within hours of each other.

Pompey just make this stuff too easy... :p

Compare and contrast!

http://www.bleacherreport.com/articles/1841038-my-england-world-cup-starting-xi-and-why-john-terry-deserves-a-second-chance

I hosted a radio phone-in a couple of weeks ago in which I campaigned for three Southampton players to be called into the England squad—Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Nathan Clyne.

Clyne missed out, but Rodriguez and Lallana have been named in Roy Hodgson's 28-man roster for the upcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany. Hodgson got that decision spot on. Credit to the England manager, who seems emboldened by qualification and in the mood to make things happen.

Rodriguez would be a great substitute to have at the World Cup next summer. He's quick, unpredictable and brings real quality up front.

Lallana would be in my England starting XI. He's been doing the business for five years with Southampton and is now their club captain. He's improved under an excellent coach in Mauricio Pochettino and deserves his chance at international level.

If I picked my England team for the first game of the group stages in Brazil today, this would be it:

Sad about Clyne but chuffed for the others.

Have to agree about Clyne, from the first game against Man City last season I have been more than impressed by him, on another note, I wonder how many premier club boards, pundits and so forth will be taking us more seriously; look at what we as a club have brought to the party, Walcott, the Ox, Bale, Shaw, Lallana, Chambers, Ward-Prowse to name a few, their is no doubt in my mind that Southampton football club is showing the way forward to the rest and has to be the envy of all.

It's great news, a pretty historic and proud day to be a Southampton fan, that's for sure. We're riding on the crest of a wave at the moment, it's been a long time since my club has had such an important impact in the world/international scene, and I don't think it's going to wear off either.

People will know that I'm a fan of Jay Rodriguez, but I think he's English class. Have said all along that he will play for England, and I fully hope that he gets his opportunity in the next 2 games. Lallana is no surprise though, he was nailed on to be in the squad. The best English attacking midfielder in the PL right now and I would fully expect him to start too.

A little surprised to see Lambo still in there, but it shows that he's done enough to edge himself into the squad based on his previous displays. Got a feeling that when Carroll's fit he's out though, which is a complete travesty as he's about 10x better.

Echo article quotes Hodgson. He mentions Clyne, Shaw and JWP... So I guess they can't be far away from his thinking. Jack Cork must be a bit gutted tbh.

Cork looked pretty ordinary last night, lack of games perhaps but I suspect that playing with a better partner made him look better than he actually is.

Or he struggled when playing with those not up to his level? He was absolutely class last season, consistently.

of course a good question will be - will they all three get on the field of play at the same time?.. It has happened before.

Back in " the good old days ..in the 1980's" ; Peter Shilton, Steve Williams and Mark Wright played in 3 internationals together between Sept. and November 1984.

there were others, too.

Kevin Keegan and Dave Watson two games together in 1981,

David Armstrong and Peter Shilton both played against WEST Germany in 1982

Shilton and Williams 2 games -"- in 1983,

Armstrong and Wright, 1 game v. Wales in 1984

Danny Wallace and Mark Wright v. Egypt in Jan 1986

" .those were the days ....my friend..."

and a little more recently ....James Beattie and Wayne Bridge were both in the England team that played Serbia and Montenegro in 2003.

Would be great to see Adam, Rickie and Jay Rod turning in good displays and see if it could break the " Man.Utd monopoly " on places....
