Ulrich van Gobbel Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 This seems greedy as we have just had 3 players named in the England squad.. but I'm gutted for Clyney! He is one of our most consistent performers and should be in the squad over Johnson who has been out injured for weeks!
trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Author Posted 7 November, 2013 Alas, still no place for Morgan in the French squad... @FrenchFtWeekly EDF for Play-off v Ukraine GK: Landreau, Lloris, Mandanda DF: Abidal, Clichy, Debuchy, Evra, Koscielny, Sagna, Sakho, Varane MF: Cabaye, Grenier, Matuidi, Mavuba, Nasri, Pogba, Sissoko FW: Benzema, Giroud, Payet, Remy, Ribery, Valbuena
shurlock Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 We can't score for s**t; yet it's our attackers who get acknowledged and our defense ignored. Indeed our attack is as much reliant on our defense, Clyne and Shaw as the aforementioned attacking players.
saint lard Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Well done to all at SFC,an incredible renaissance has taken place at our club.
Monkou Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Great news, not only for the 3 players involved, but also the young guys like JWP, Luke and Nathaniel who now can see that being at Southampton is not a barrier to getting called up for England. Their time will come. Well done Roy for looking outside the fashionable teams.
Jimmy_D Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 And even better now I wonder what the chances are we'll see all three of them on the pitch at the same time… Cross from Lallana, headed back across goal by Lambert to be finished off by J-Rod, cue pictures of the three of them celebrating together in England shirts making a perfect desktop picture.
Minty Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 We can't score for s**t; yet it's our attackers who get acknowledged and our defense ignored. Indeed our attack is as much reliant on our defense, Clyne and Shaw as the aforementioned attacking players. There's a fundamental difference however between picking players because of what they contribute to the whole team, and purely whether they score or not. Jay and Adam especially contribute a huge amount to our pressing game and forcing the opposition into mistakes - while their running with the ball and movement off it could work really well alongside the likes of Sturridge or Rooney who are excellent players, no doubt.
hypochondriac Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 We can't score for s**t; yet it's our attackers who get acknowledged and our defense ignored. Indeed our attack is as much reliant on our defense, Clyne and Shaw as the aforementioned attacking players. Yeah i find that odd. The more I think about it the more weird I think it is that Clyne wasn't given a chance.

alpine_saint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Really pleased for all 6 players named in the England set-up today (though feel a bit sorry for Clyne). Also congratulations to MoPo for nurturing them so well.
jasonb Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Fantastic news for the lads and I'm sure others will feature if we maintain this momentum. Now all we need is some big European nights and NONE of our players will want to bugger off and play for someone else. Bravo Roy!
Saint Charlie Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Absolutely amazed that Schneiderlin can't get in the France setup. Really pleased for the England lads, especially Lallana.
Downthe36 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Well done Roy for looking outside the fashionable teams. Whisper it....but I think we currently are a fashionable team. How long that will last is another matter entirely.
skintsaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 I thought JRod was the least likely to be called up so a surprise there. Clyne, JWP and Shaws time will come
shurlock Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Absolutely amazed that Schneiderlin can't get in the France setup. Really pleased for the England lads, especially Lallana. They are in the playoffs, so don't have the luxury to experiment. Probably wishful thinking - not like Morgan would get a sniff if it was a friendly. The idea that Sissoko is ahead of him...FFS
Colinjb Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Wonderful news! What a day when a forward who isn't an automatic first choice at Saints makes the England squad! Good work Jay!! Fully deserved for Adam too.
Appy Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Clyne still playing catch up from his poor Under 21s championship me thinks.
Elias Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Alas, still no place for Morgan in the French squad... @FrenchFtWeekly EDF for Play-off v Ukraine GK: Landreau, Lloris, Mandanda DF: Abidal, Clichy, Debuchy, Evra, Koscielny, Sagna, Sakho, Varane MF: Cabaye, Grenier, Matuidi, Mavuba, Nasri, Pogba, Sissoko FW: Benzema, Giroud, Payet, Remy, Ribery, Valbuena Perhaps his face doesn't fit?
View From The Top Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Perhaps his face doesn't fit? They aren't going to gamble in play off games.
shurlock Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Perhaps his face doesn't fit? I forget social engineering is now out of fashion with the FFF.
LGTL Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Shaw would have been in but Hodgson and Southgate decided not to call up any 'important' U21 players.
Bewildered Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Shaw would have been in but Hodgson and Southgate decided not to call up any 'important' U21 players. Wonder if that includes JWP?
Dr. Kucho Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 ENGLAND NEWS CONFERENCE Hodgson on the number of Southampton players in the England senior squad and Under-21 squad: "There's more there because in our Under-21s there's James Ward-Prowse, Luke Shaw in the Under-19s there's [Calum] Chambers. "You have to give an awful lot of credit to Southampton and of course in the past they can boast some very important players that they have provided to the Premier League, not least Gareth Bale." From the BBC.
Graffito Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 We can't score for s**t; yet it's our attackers who get acknowledged and our defense ignored. Indeed our attack is as much reliant on our defense, Clyne and Shaw as the aforementioned attacking players. True, but equally our defence is reliant on our attack. If there's one player I thought was a shoe-in for the friendlies given his performances and the defciciencies of Johnson and Walker it's Cyne.
dubai_phil Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 If this piece from the DM is anything to go by I imagine NC is pretty happy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2378319/Southampton-chairman-Nicola-Cortese-People-thought-I-E-T-I-Ianded-Saints.html Relevant bit: Lol good find and good work by NC to see this coming!
Wiggles31 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Amazing news!!!! Lallana has been sublime this season. Suprised by JRod but he'll offer England something new. Scary when you think JWP, Shaw and Clyne will be next. #itshappening LOL
toofarnorth Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Hodgson has just said that Clyne has been in his thoughts. Little consolation I know, but shows he's really knocking on the door.
ant Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Whisper it....but I think we currently are a fashionable team. How long that will last is another matter entirely. Indeed. But in the here and now I'm struggling to take all of this in.
tajjuk Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Awesome news, great news for the club as well even less reason for our players to move on as they can get international recognition with little ol' southampton.
ottery st mary Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Well done to Lallana , Jay Rod and Lambert. Well done to the mighty Saints.
Draino76 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Southampton will win the Brazil 14 - mark my words.
Wrensup Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 I'm happy he's been called up, jrod that is but Roy hodgeson does annoye me "Danny Welbeck at the moment has been injured. We hope and believe he will be fit to play - but I see Rodriguez as someone who could possibly fill that Welbeck role." Roy Hodgson Why can't a player just be picked for doing well rather than just being an injury replacement. Same thing went for Lambert, Roy just has to make the point that they wouldn't be here if it weren't for injuries.
farawaysaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Deschamps is officially a gigantic tool, Morgan must be feeling massively ticked off at the moment.
max_saints Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 so so so pleased for all three! esp. jrod who snuck in when everyone least expected it. instead of feeling disappointed, clyne should look at this as further inspiration to continue working hard and perform week in week out. who knows, we might have rickie, adam, jrod, shaw and clyne all on the flight to Brazil.
Jimmy_D Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 so so so pleased for all three! esp. jrod who snuck in when everyone least expected it. instead of feeling disappointed, clyne should look at this as further inspiration to continue working hard and perform week in week out. who knows, we might have rickie, adam, jrod, shaw and clyne all on the flight to Brazil. You forgot JWP
Window Cleaner Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 I am particularly pleased for JRod, thought he struggled with us at first (but then again that might have been some sort of Adkins effect) but now I see him as one of our brightest prospects.
Window Cleaner Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Deschamps is officially a gigantic tool, Morgan must be feeling massively ticked off at the moment. Morgan should have been selected instead of Mavuba at least, then again Deschamps just does not know what he's doing, unless of course the "quota" system that was uncovered in the dark basements of the FFF with reference to the U21s is secretly applied to the full national side.
suewhistle Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Deschamps is officially a gigantic tool, Morgan must be feeling massively ticked off at the moment. I prefer the word 'connard'...
Under Weststand Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Fabulous news & well done to Adam, Jay & Rickie, so chuffed for the three of them. Have to say I'm a bit disappointed for Clyne who I feel is a great prospect for both us & England.
suewhistle Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Ready made chant for Saturday.. 'Rickie for England' 'Adam for England' etc. JR/Clyne/Shaw/JWP/Chambers.. Morgan pour France..
DT Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 amazed about Jay Rod. International quality? Thought Shaw would be in
