trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 @SouthamptonFC: #SaintsFC trio Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert are in the #England squad for friendlies against Chile and Germany.
itchen_dan Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 WOW! Massive congratulations to Jay and Adam in particular. Huge day in the history of Saints.
beavis17 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Absolutely brilliant stuff. Well done to Adam and Jay especially. Fully deserved.
CylonKing Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Wow! and Wow again. Speechless! Great news for the players for the hard work and getting the recognition but also to the club and everyone involved with the progression of this great clubs of ours. Well Done!
Tokyo-Saint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Good news. Well done to them. Pleased for Jay especially as feel he is very underrated.
hypochondriac Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Sad about Clyne but chuffed for the others.
Saint Garrett Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 All fully deserved, JWP, Clyne and Shaw will be aggrieved though! Great stuff for the club and for the lads. Just hope they get a chance to shine!! How much are tickets?
trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Author Posted 7 November, 2013 Shame Clyne doesn't get a look in though
krissyboy31 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Wasn't expecting JayRod but would have been massively disappointed if Lallana hadn't been in. He might actually get a game this time.
Saints67 Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Made my day. Happy for Rickie and Adam but well chuffed for Jay.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Wow, that's great news! Congrats all!
Gorgiesaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Delighted to see Adam get in, congrats to J-Rod as well. Shame for Clyne, Ward-Prowse & Shaw but their time will come. 3 Saints in an England squad - must be record in the Premier League era for us although no doubt we had more than that in squads going back to the 80's
dubai_phil Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Bloody hell. Never thought I would live to see the day we had 3 players in an England Team in the modern era Well done to the lads and MP & the team for the development & coaching work they have had (apart from the Channon/Ball/Osgood/Watson/Shilton era of course
Lighthouse Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Fantastic! That's all I've got to say. Actually I've got more. How far has this club come whe. We've got 3 players in the England squad and we can still feel aggrieved that 3 more didn't make it.
Saint Garrett Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Fantastic! That's all I've got to say. Actually I've got more. How far has this club come whe. We've got 3 players in the England squad and we can still feel aggrieved that 3 more didn't make it. 2 of which were with us in League 1! Awesome. Sent from my HTC Desire X using Tapatalk
Jimmy_D Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Wow, that's amazing! I wonder if other clubs' fans will complain that Saints players are getting picked now due to 'big club bias'
Dr. Kucho Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 All 3 well deserved! Gutted for Clyne, but his time will come, as will JWP and Shaw if they continue playing the way they do now. Has the French coach announced his squad yet? Wonder if Morgan will get call.
LaptopSaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Brilliant news for all three of them. Ironic that our great start to the season has been built on rock solid defence and we've struggled a bit to score, but who gives a stuff.
Jack Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 (edited) Plenty of room in that squad for some of our other Englishmen. Johnson, Walker, Cleverly, Milner, Henderson... Plus the few that may need a walking stick by the time we get to Brazil. Bet Woy still plays the old guard through fear of the media. It's great for our lads but I f*cking hate the England setup. Edited 7 November, 2013 by Jack
Chewy Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 (edited) Great news for the individuals and the club as a whole. Surprised by j-rod's inclusion and clyne's omission, but not too disappointed about jwp and shaw, there time will undoubtedly come and I can't see them figuring in Brazil (unless baines or cole get injured for shaw). Jwp will be involved after Brazil though IMO after Gerard and lampard call it a day if he keeps going as he is. Edited 7 November, 2013 by Chewy Hadn't finished!
MongoNeil Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Absolutely chuffed for the boys, great stuff. I've been saying to all my work colleagues for a while now (since the league 1 days) that we'll have a few players in the England set-up soon, wish I'd had a few bets now :-)
Jez Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Brilliant news! Very exciting - wasn't expecting J Rod's call up yet! Just laughed at my skate colleague as he is going to the Chile game and gutted he may have to be cheering on three Saints! I wonder if Roy actually thinks that Smalling is a better player/right back than Clyne? His time will come too.
trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Author Posted 7 November, 2013 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Roy Hodgson: “We’ve followed Adam very closely and he’s played a major part in #SaintsFC’s rise this season. It was obvious we’d pick him." Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Hodgson: “Jay Rodriguez is a wide forward, and we think he’s played well for #SaintsFC. This might be an interesting opportunity for us."
dubai_phil Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Hmm wonder if NC will be happy about this? Will it cost us money? Did Burnley have add on clauses? Who cares, have to say I was buzzing when STL got the call up but today is just like having drunk 10 neat Red Bulls at once. Bouncing round the office grinning like a looney
Jimmy_D Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 'Jay Rodriguez' trending worldwide at the moment!
trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Author Posted 7 November, 2013 The FA @FA Hodgson: This is an opportunity to learn a bit more about Rodriguez. He could play a role similar to Danny Welbeck #England
Tamesaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Interesting that BBC Sports's news headlines on J Rod rather than Adam.. I am slightly surprised about his inclusion - and disappointed for Clyne.
Special K Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Well done lads, thoroughly deserved. Also they will be well up for saturday (not that they wouldn't have been) but there should be an extra spring in their step.
Matthew Le God Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Interesting that BBC Sports's news headlines on J Rod rather than Adam. Perhaps because Adam has had a call-up before, this is a first for Jay.
Bewildered Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Hmm wonder if NC will be happy about this? Will it cost us money? Did Burnley have add on clauses? Who cares, have to say I was buzzing when STL got the call up but today is just like having drunk 10 neat Red Bulls at once. Bouncing round the office grinning like a looney If this piece from the DM is anything to go by I imagine NC is pretty happy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2378319/Southampton-chairman-Nicola-Cortese-People-thought-I-E-T-I-Ianded-Saints.html Relevant bit: He spars with Jay Rodriguez, telling the former Burnley striker that he is backing him to be Southampton's top scorer and force his way into the England squad before Christmas.
Dimond Geezer Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Congratulations to all of them, I've got to say I'm a little surprised, and disappointed for Clyne.

Pugwash Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 The FA @FA Hodgson: This is an opportunity to learn a bit more about Rodriguez. He could play a role similar to Danny Welbeck #England Christ, I hope he's better than that! Well done Jay and Adam.
Minty Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Southampton FC @SouthamptonFC Roy Hodgson: “We’ve followed Adam very closely and he’s played a major part in #SaintsFC’s rise this season. It was obvious we’d pick him." That's an interesting choice of words... I wouldn't say it was obvious to us that he'd pick him at all! But great news for all of them.
Leicestersaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Surprised - but pleased. But why no Clyne or Shaw?!
DG Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Brilliant, well done lads. What a few years it has been.
BotleySaint Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 J-Rod has exceptional pace and dribbling skills plus a few goals so I'm not surprised to see him in the squad on merit!
Jimmy_D Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Surprised - but pleased. But why no Clyne or Shaw?! Is Clyne still in the U21 setup? I'd guess that's already given them a chance to look at those two (and JWP), this friendly looks to be a chance to look at some completely new players.
trousers Posted 7 November, 2013 Author Posted 7 November, 2013 The FA @FA Hodgson: You have to give a lot of credit to Southampton with so many players in both the senior and Under-21s teams #England
RobM Posted 7 November, 2013 Posted 7 November, 2013 Great news for all concerned, as already said above. Also great news as it shows players don't have to leave unfashionable clubs like us to further their international careers.
