they are not the worst team in the league though are they.

they still have good players. I would not be them getting out of trouble

look at you getting all arrogant that we never batted them away with ease

they made 7 changes by the way

Respond to my comments you ****ing moron, I am ****ed that the club assumed we could bat them away and made minimal effort rather than ****ing trying... What kind of a spaz are you? trolling moron.

That was terrible - no fight, no idea, no chances, no interest and what was all the laughing etc with MP and Poyet at the end all about - pathetic!

Let's get real we're in a false position and to show no interest in progressing t a home quarter final cup tie with Chelsea has ****ed me off big time!

The final straw was when Sam Gallagher came on for Ramirez - why wasn't Rickie a sub?

Poor game overall, if this was a final chance for the likes of Yoshida, Lee and Fox to show they can contribute positively to the team, they have failed miserably.

Why did Maya decide to leave the ball for the first? KD made the initial save, all Yoshida had to do was put his foot through it.

Why did Fox come right across to the other side of the pitch to slide in like that? He left Larsson completely free to run in and score.

I think that the club should refund all fans that went up there tbh. Made utterly no attempt to beat the worst team in the premier league and a great chance to get to the final.

How arrogant are we, almost the entire fan base would have taken a cup final win over europa league qualification through the league. They both achieve the same thing after all....

If we don't achieve Champions League now then the club have seriously let us down and failed, because that is what they try to spoonfeed everyone.... so if europa league is not good enough, dish the godamn champions league footy... but that ofc won't happen and is a few season off at best... therefore what was wrong with the ******* cup option ffs.

Chelsea in the next round with a second XI consisting of Mata, Etoo, De Bruyne, Ramirez, Mikel, Willian, Cahill to name but a few. Great chance for the final, thats arrogance!. I think this merely shows how far we have come from having Jos and Fox and Cork as shoe ins for the first team. Not fussed at all by the defeat. I think judging by the team put out it its clear to see this cup wasn't NC and MP's priority. Maybe they have got slightly grander ideas else in mind.

In a false position?

Funny, I thought the reason we were where we are was we had the second best defence in the whole of Europe??

we put our reserves out against a team that made 7 changes?

I couldn't give a sh!te what Sunderland did, if we wanted to win the cup we would have put out a stronger team.

I wish the club would just be honest and say they don't care, it's all about he money and the Premier League.

We are a a club with a f*cking embarrassment for a trophy cabinet, it's time we tried to do something about it.

For a left back, Fox has quite an odd allergy to playing that position. Memories of Oliver Barnard in his constantly out of position performances. It's like he's allergic to the line, as he's never, ever anywhere near their wide man. Always acres of spaces, it's bizarre. We're 1 injury away from him being exposed in the PL, quite worrying. Hope we get a new LB in January.

I remember in pre prem days when we used to pack in the Dell for a game at this same stage. Empty stadium, no atmosphere, why bother.

Football is about the fans at the end of the day and days out at wembley is what its all about. Really p155ed off the way we approached and played this game. Adkins was the same - look at the game at Leeds last season. Feel like boycotting this Sat tbh.

Agreed with this Nicholas.

Dissappointing from MP in our biggest chance to win something. We'll probably go and win the FA cup now.

we are. trying to win the league it seems.

why is this such a surprise? we (and nearly every other club) have been playing 2nd string teams in this competition for years. we did it last year and will do it next year

just many other sides have got stronger squads than us

Meh. Focus on the league. Once the draw was made for the 1/4 finals we knew that our run of Chelsea, and then two out of United/City/Spurs wasn't realistic.

Points on the game:

- Kelvin should have got his positioning right for the first goal, the ball was obviously going to be headed back across goal and once it had been he wasn't in a position to leap and claim it. Its quite rare you can make a direct comparison between two players in football but you can be 100% certain Boruc would have read the header, got himself on his 6-yard line and been able to leap up and claim it.

- Lee, god bless him just won't ever be a Premiership player and its useless trying to get whatever we're trying to get out of him. Like him as a person though as he seems like a genuine 'tryer' and the club should make a decent effort to find him a new club and keep his career on track. Sayonara, thank you and good luck.

- Ramirez clearly has ability but just doesn't fit into the high-pressing/high-intensity style of the team. Some people on here really do have an extremely bizzare vendetta against him though it must be said.

- Buying new centre-backs even as reserves is perfectly justifiable. Hooiveld/Yoshida aren't ever going to be good enough.

- The ball just doesn't stick up front without Lambert or Osvaldo to hold it up. Our system doesn't necessarily entail a monster of a man to head the ball but it does rely on some type of a target man and until then, Rodriguez (despite his improvement) will always be a bit of a square peg in a round hole.

- Good effort from Reed, who I thought had an impressive debut. JWP changed the game when he came on as well and looks like he's maturing, so well done there.

The club clearly didn't care about this competition a great deal, not sure what they expect us to do in the league...

It's a bit off really imo.

Almost like a total non event, to think I was within in a whisker of going after I went to Barnsley - thank f*** I didn't.

With our new "it's happening" or "our dream is real" waffle, I would have expected better form the club.

We've got no divine right to win any game of football but at least give it our best shot, that was a p*** take tbh.

I'm not necessarily disappointed about being knocked out. I’m disappointed in the team's performance and lack of desire to win the game. They really didn't look like they cared, nor did Pochettino's selection suggest he cared either.

Silver lining - December is easily our toughest and most congested month of the season. It would have been nice trying to have a good go at the League cup, but it would have also been a big ask to beat Chelsea and maintain momentum in the league. This year we can really consolidate ourselves as a Premier League club; establish ourselves as a top ten club. Next year we can push on from there and make a good attempt at winning some silverware. Baby steps!

Roll on Hull, we will smash them and the bed wetters will be silent once again. COYR!

F@ck it, I'm looking at the positives. JWP coming on and immediately making us better - great delivery for the free kick (he's just 19). And Gallagher, who I'd hardly even heard of, looking pretty tidy and making some decent runs and touches on his debut (he's 18 and 6'4")

Future's bright.

So, Tadanari Lee?

I honestly don't know what to make of him. What I do think is that he probably won't feature again, ever, unless we draw some lower league team in the FA Cup 3rd round.

As I've said dozen times, he's not any where near good enough.

We've won more trophies than Arsenal or Spurs in the last 5 years. FACT! ;)

Disappointed with the result but can't fault the performance of majority of players. Gaston and Lee didn't really help their causes and I thought Rodriguez could have done better, but good to see Reed, Chambers and Gallagher get appearances and they all looked very assured and comfortable. Once I saw the team and, more importantly the bench, I did worry where the goals would come from - I suppose with Osvaldo coming back from injury it would have been a little risky to stick him in (if fit).

I get the feeling that if we had won tonight we would have seen a stronger side v Chelsea, but realistically when you look at the remaining teams in the competition we would have done well to have won it anyway!

On to Hull, who I think may be tricky - it really depends on how Steve Bruce sets the team out, if they come to play I fancy a 2 nil win again.

When I watch or listen to our League matches I feel nervous as hell, tonight watched at home quite relaxed and not really bothered, probably says it all. I would much rather finish mid or higher in the league than win a cup and be in a relagation scrap, each to their own I suppose.

I don't know what people expect, playing away from home at the other end of the country only 2.5 days before our next league match (stupid scheduling). I think that more first teamers would have played if we were at home with 3.5 to 4.5 recovery time.

Sorry to ***** your balloon, but we are sixth and that's great but we are not that good so get over it!

You're right, let's be f*cking miserable even when things are going well rather than actually enjoying something.

Tonight was sh*t, it's disappointing that we're not taking the cups seriously, but we ARE taking the league seriously, and THAT is why we will do well in the league this season. You're the one that has something to get over.

Yep. And anyone who couldn't see that after tonight is blind, or stupid.

I've watched him a few times in the U21s, in a couple of cup matches and he offers, well, not a lot. Weird signing and needs to go.

You're wrong though surely?

He runs around a lot and has a funny song.

Quite. I remember saying when we got promoted that he want good enough and got a torrent of abuse. Some said he was going to be a massive player for us and one of the funniest things I've ever seen was someone say that he was class and that his running and movement are brilliant, we just don't have the players good enough to pick him out, although this was only topped by Vectis Saint saying I didn't like him because he is Japanese and I must be racist! Simple fact is he his a million miles away from a premier league player and that has been blindingly obvious to anyone who knows even the tiniest bit about football.

I can not believe some of our fans would rather we finished 17th and won a Cup every time, I do question our fanbase sometimes, what do they genuinely want from the club?

Winning a cup every year would be pretty nice actually, and staying in the prem to boot. Works for me.

and why do people think that if we'd fielded our full team tonight, that would have necessarily had a negative effect on our league form. The players are athletes FFS. They should be able to cope with playing Wed then Sat. Club went slightly down in my estimations tonight.

Not disappointed in the result but it has shown that our second string isn't as good as we might have expected.

I don't get this "I'm not disappointed bull****?" Did you watch the stream thinking oh t's ok we'll be second after beating Hull etc?

Give me strength our best chance of winning something, qualifying for Europe was this competition - anyway that's me done got it off my chest.............
