Saint86 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I think that the club should refund all fans that went up there tbh. Made utterly no attempt to beat the worst team in the premier league and a great chance to get to the final. How arrogant are we, almost the entire fan base would have taken a cup final win over europa league qualification through the league. They both achieve the same thing after all.... If we don't achieve Champions League now then the club have seriously let us down and failed, because that is what they try to spoonfeed everyone.... so if europa league is not good enough, dish the godamn champions league footy... but that ofc won't happen and is a few season off at best... therefore what was wrong with the ******* cup option ffs.
Wrensup Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Hope shall never beat reality. Almost like you've got a vendetta on him, you're actually a little unhinged aint you.
S-Clarke Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I'll tell you how. First Jack Cork - what the hell has happened to him? Shadow of the player from last season. Terrible worthless foul to give away. Fox, who exactly was he marking on the free kick? Kelvin - love him but ROOTED to his line on the header across. If he comes out and lifts his arms up - guess what - he's taller than everyone else in the box!! Which is why he don't play much at this level... The second goal happens when you're all out for the equaliser. What's Cork done wrong? Had a decent game. And what do you expect from someone who has been on the bench all season. Of course he's not going to be at the level of last season, and if we're honest - we're used to better now, no matter how good Cork was for us. Wanyama and Morgan are rightfully the midfield 2.
Georgie Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Terrible, terrible defending. Thank god that isn't our first choice back four then. Does really show that we need some better back up though. I dread to think what will happen when we get a couple of injuries/suspensions in defence
NickG Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Premier appearances this season - max ten games (includes coming on as a sub although that mainly applies to us as theirs are starters) Sunderland Mannone =1 Celustka =9 Bardsley = 3 Gardner 6 Brown = 1 O'Shea = 9 Johnson =10 Colback = 10 Altidore =10 Ki = 6 Giaccherin = 7 Davis =0 Chambers =4 Fox = 2 Reed = 0 Yoshida = 0 26 Hooiveld =0 09 Rodriguez = 10 18 Cork =3 19 Lee = 0 10 Ramírez = 5 08 Davis = 6 pretty much their first team against our reserves
Micky Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I reckon so. 17 big ones - wasted. More importantly, looks like we can lay the myth to rest about having squad depth. I think those are the main issues - how long are we going to persevere, he's not delivering so could well be that we look to offload. Problem 1 - whose likely to want to pay anywhere near what we did? Doing great in the league at the moment - but depth of squad looks thin. Problem 2 - a couple of injuries and we start to slide.

kwsaint Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 MP will have learnt a bit tonight about which players he will want to keep for next season. Can't see Ramirez, Lee, Fox being around. Not sure Kelvin will either.
Noodles34 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 It's all very we'll concentrating on the league, but let's be real, we ain't going to win it, it will be a miracle if we finish higher than 7th, and we have Hull at home on Saturday . FFS, we want to win things, as fans, trips to finals are few and far between, and this was a definite chance, and we did not go for it. Why? So Lambert is not tired on Saturday, do me a favour! Our first team would have won here tonight, just don't buy this second string cup team, it's ****** and we will end up in 8th or 9th (which is not bad) and people will say "well done Southampton......" But that is all we will have to show for it, can't wait for the commemorative T Shirt, Merse and Lawro being patronisingly kind about us. Can tell my grand kids about how we finishe 8th one year
iansums Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Some bellend will try, they always do, its tiresome, we need to come together and finally all admit he is **** and will always be ****, he was a Cortese signing thats truly ****ed up, our British players from League 1 have given us the impetus to get where we are, no expensive gambles, where is Osvaldo? What's really tiresome is ****s like you calling your own players ****

Legod Third Coming Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 What's Cork done wrong? Had a decent game. Terrible worthless foul to give away... Of course he's not going to be at the level of last season, and if we're honest - we're used to better now, no matter how good Cork was for us. Wanyama and Morgan are rightfully the midfield 2. What I want is players who really make a point when they get their chance and he hasn't. He's better than tonight (agree it's tough when you haven't been playing). The point I was making is that he gave away a poor and unnecessary free kick which combined with my other points led to a sloppy goal...
JoeShmoe Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 MP will have learnt a bit tonight about which players he will want to keep for next season. Can't see Ramirez, Lee, Fox being around. Not sure Kelvin will either. Jos as well, I'd have thought one of our younger CBs would be better such as Stephens or the new one we recently signed
Barry Sanchez Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I can not believe some of our fans would rather we finished 17th and won a Cup every time, I do question our fanbase sometimes, what do they genuinely want from the club?
Batman Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 lol at saints fans getting all arrogant that we never swatted them away ARROGANT
BadgerBadger Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 learning curve for all areas of the club - tame, very tame
aintforever Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 What a pathetic, lame way to go out of a cup competition. Might as well ask the Football League to not bother entering us next year if we don't give a sh!te about it.
Appy Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Kelvin Davis has been a great servant for us, but it's time he retired or left.
The Kraken Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 It's all very we'll concentrating on the league, but let's be real, we ain't going to win it, it will be a miracle if we finish higher than 7th, and we have Hull at home on Saturday . BotleySaint Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Well, second string got a 2-1 away at Sunderland doesn't sound too bad. But feels like a wasted chance to get closer to Europe via the cup.
Leicestersaint Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Very very poor! Very silly team selection.
jasonb Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I see that Gaston did not have such a good second half. Possibly off in Jan Done my best for the lad..... He's let a few people down. Of course we all wanted him to do well and the odd flashes and 10 minutes here and 5 minutes there of excellent play proved he could do it. Maybe its an attitude thing more than a physical thing with him. I don't think we'll ever know. And to think.. we poached him from under Liverpool's noses... Hmmm... Still, we all buy a lemon now and again. Onwards and upwards.
Saint86 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 what the hell are you on about. even the team we faced made 7 changes why is it such a surprise when teams do this? the obtaining CL is the arrogant bit, you idiot see above, 8 of the sunderland first team were playing.... then you have the two suspensions... so they made 1 unforced change.... either way, that is the worst team in the prem bar maybe palace.... what exactly are the club trying to achieve.. if its europa league qualification then the cup would do it.... if its CL this season they are frigging crazy... The entire fan base would have wanted a League cup win than finishing 5th-7th... Yet the club made next to no attempt when really even minimum effort should have been required.

Wiggles31 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 What a load of rubbish. Really dissappointed with the management.
CB Fry Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 The League cup is utterly beneath the European megapower we now are, so who gives a sh it? Not me.
Batman Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 see above, 8 of the sunderland first team were playing.... then you have the two suspensions... so they made 1 unforced change.... either way, that is the worst team in the prem bar maybe palace.... what exactly are the club trying to achieve.. if its europa league qualification then the cup would do it.... if its CL this season they are frigging crazy... Yet the club made next to no attempt when really even minimum effort should have been required. they are not the worst team in the league though are they. they still have good players. I would not be them getting out of trouble look at you getting all arrogant that we never batted them away with ease they made 7 changes by the way
Noodles34 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Well, second string got a 2-1 away at Sunderland doesn't sound too bad. But feels like a wasted chance to get closer to Europe via the cup. Did we score?
Huffton Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Premier league team with a bit of a thin squad looking for a decent premier league finish in not taking the crapital one cup particularly seriously shocker. Shame for the fans who travelled all the way up there, but did anyone seriously expect anything different?
speed demon Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Premier appearances this season - max ten games (includes coming on as a sub although that mainly applies to us as theirs are starters) Sunderland Mannone =1 Celustka =9 Bardsley = 3 Gardner 6 Brown = 1 O'Shea = 9 Johnson =10 Colback = 10 Altidore =10 Ki = 6 Giaccherin = 7 Davis =0 Chambers =4 Fox = 2 Reed = 0 Yoshida = 0 26 Hooiveld =0 09 Rodriguez = 10 18 Cork =3 19 Lee = 0 10 Ramírez = 5 08 Davis = 6 pretty much their first team against our reserves Yep, if your sad enough to go on their forum like I am you'll see that they think it is virtually a full strength side. It just makes our loss more of a joke tbh.
jasonb Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I'm off to the 'Gaston in the January Sales' thread..
S-Clarke Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 poch even smiling like he's happy to be out The club clearly didn't care about this competition a great deal, not sure what they expect us to do in the league...
VectisSaint Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Oh well, at least its 10 points in the Prediction League, every cloud and all that. Rubbish result. League Cup glory and pathway to the CL after winning Europa League next season. Long time since 1979.
aintforever Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 they are not the worst team in the league though are they. they still have good players. I would not be them getting out of trouble look at you getting all arrogant that we never batted them away with ease they made 7 changes by the way It's arrogant to think we could put our reserves out and still go through.
Lazlo78 Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 (edited) Happy days for everyone, as the utterly uninteresting Gaston-debate is fuelled again. Wohoo. Meanwhile, Harrison Reed played 90 minutes in the heart of midfield and Sam Gallagher got his debut(?) for the senior side. Chambers and Ward-Prowse again involved. Not a great match, no, but there are positives if you look beyond the same old arguments... Edit: oh, and they had one of their more important first team players (Giaccherini) injured which shows why the manager sometimes have to make difficult choices with games like these - imagine Lovren or Boruc out injured after tonight? Edited 6 November, 2013 by Lazlo78
channonball Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 They probably just want to win some matches to create the "winning habit". Wasted opportunity tonight. May have been different if gaston didn't blast over at the end of the first half.
Legod Third Coming Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I can't believe anyone wouldn't want that. Personally, I don't see why we shouldn't target higher than 7th. What's wrong with aspiring? We've proven we're a match for the club in second (we beat them at their place). We got a point at Old Trafford (ok they're not so hot this season as in season's past). I DETEST playing a second string team in any game but I sympathise with a manager who has to try somehow to see who else is good enough to challenge for the first team...
Dr. Kucho Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I can not believe some of our fans would rather we finished 17th and won a Cup every time, I do question our fanbase sometimes, what do they genuinely want from the club? I question people like you spending their time on here slating our players and only turning up when we are losing/or have lost. You cant possibly support Saints, so go and troll somewhere else or go out and get some friends. Is your life really that boring that you have to spend your days on a football forum trolling?
Pastor Patrón Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Who cares, winning such a **** cup would be embarrassing.

Batman Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 It's arrogant to think we could put our reserves out and still go through. we put our reserves out against a team that made 7 changes?
timayes Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 I can not believe some of our fans would rather we finished 17th and won a Cup every time, I do question our fanbase sometimes, what do they genuinely want from the club? Yes, I do wonder at times.

What a lot of ****** you talk...so winning tonite guaranteed a League Cup victory.. Hull game is far more important than this mickey mouse cup
S-Clarke Posted 6 November, 2013 Posted 6 November, 2013 Who cares, winning such a **** cup would be embarrassing. But I'm sure you'd have been there at the final.
