Favourite home national

just to stop the hatred and bile directed at our club for a minute- away fans, ticket prices, et al- would you all like to think of something nice and footbally.

who is your favourite englishman, scotsman, welshman, irishman north and south to have played for the saints. he doesn't have to have been an internationally recognised cap, just your favourite one from there. if you can, only name ones you have seen play, i would love to say davies for wales, but alas, i'm too young, but also, only what they did for the saints. so again you really have to rule out bale, i would have thought.

i don't want to get too obvious, as in le tiss, we all know what he did for us, but your own heart of hearts favs. if it is le tiss, good on you.

i honestly look forward to seeing some surprising results.

england jimmy case

scotland joe jordan

wales barry horne

n ireland chris nicholl

r ireland mickey evans

i know some are limited, but it's only a bit of fun - no slagging anyone please!

England Matt Le Tissier

Scotland Gordon Strachan

Wales Gareth Bale

N Ireland Chris Baird

Rep of Ireland are not a Home Nation, but my favourite Irish ex-Saint is... um... nope.

Ecuador Agustin Delgado

Cape Verde Pedro Pele

for those pointing out that Strachan didn't play for the Saints, I say I'm rewriting football terminology in the same way as Saints fans have for Pochettino's "signing" in our version of This Is How It Feels.

The Republic of Ireland isn't one of the home nations.

only a bit of fun, i put the republic in just as another side. sorry, i forgot the pedantry on this site to be so amazingly awful.

why couldn't you have least added your list and just not included the irish republican? and by that i mean, any player who has played for or may be considered for the playing of the republic of ireland, and not technically an irish republican, as we all know, politics is a private matter, and we don't all know what every man thinks on the subject of the monarchy, republic or socialistic free states. tedious though you are for doing that, thanks for putting it in.

Maybe not use the term "irish republican" if you don't want to have to explain it? I've added Ecuador and Cape Verde as other alternative home nations. Genuinely couldn't think of a Rep of Ireland Saints player I liked, as opposed to making any political point.

It's got to be Micky Channon and Big Ron for England & Wales, Bairdy or Chris Nicholl for NI, Kenna or Townsend for the Republic (if he played for them whilst with us). But who was the last player before Fox to play for Scotland whilst at Southampton?

It was that famous scottish born player (In the Glasgow borough of Southwark).... Nigel Quashie.

England: Sir Richard of Lambert

Scotland: WGS (By rule of The9)

Northern Ireland: Chris Baird

Wales: Paul Jones

Channel Islands: Matt Le Tiss

Isle of Man: ...... Has there been any professional footballers from here?

Don't blame me, I'm not the turd that thinks clubs sign managers.

Who's blaming?! Happy to have any excuse to rain praise on the wee one.

For an actual player though..... in my memories of watching Saints the best Scot I can remember in our colours is Danny Fox.... (Can't put Quashie down now, can I!)

Hugh Fisher was a Scot and Eric Martin also. Ted MacDougal played for Scotland though I don't believe he was a Saint at the time.

Neither of them made it to the Scotland team. I doubt we have had half a dozen Scots internationals in the last 50 years. Cue a definitive list......
