St.Patrik Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 According to Swedish media is Saints and Villa interested in Swedish defender Pontus Jansson. Colinjb Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 Did Tord Grip have anything to do with the scouting of Vegard Forren? Far be it to tar the new guy with the same brush but naturally there's a hope past mistakes are not repeated.

St.Patrik Posted 5 November, 2013 Author Share Posted 5 November, 2013 Well according to this September 26 and by then Forren was already home with his mum again ; ) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2431596/Southampton-sign-Tord-Grip-Scandanavian-scouting-role.html
Saint Charlie Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 (edited) His contract expires in the summer so Im sure his club will be looking to sell in January. Decent write up here, if of course we have any interest: http://www.scan-scout.com/2011/11/04/pontus-jansson/ Edited 5 November, 2013 by Saint Charlie

SuperMikey Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 I have family from Malmo, and keep an eye on the team there for the connection. I have to say, i'm not entirely sure if he's ready for the Prem, as the Swedish league isn't blessed with a huge amount of quality and it might take him a while to adapt. Having said that, the lad is talented and will be a very good player one day. Another bonus is that he's left-footed, which would allow Dejan to play on his favoured right side. He was, as the scouting article says, lucky to play alongside Daniel Andersson at Malmo, as he's vastly experienced and one of the most intelligent defenders i've seen play. If we can get him for a good price, I say we go for it! If anything he'll make a good replacement for Jos when his contract's up in the summer. Turkish Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 I watch a lot of Swedish football and I can confirm this guy is terrible. I was in Sweden recently and saw a Swedish cup game between Malmo and Elfsborg. He was totally out of his depth, got run ragged by a very average looking front two, scored and own goal, gave away a penalty and got substituted after 50 minutes. Poor in the air and his distribution was woeful, 4 times he put the ball out for a thrown in instead of passing it 10 yards to the left back. Would be a terrible signing. the saint in winchester Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 We have Yoshida and Hoovield who can't get a game, and Martin ... is he still out on loan? I can't believe we would be looking at any other CBs right now.

I can't believe we would be looking at any other CBs right now. Granted, but if Fonte or Lovren were to sustain an injury, we'd be in trouble! It's all about improving our strength in depth, though we don't tend to buy 'squad players' these days.

Olallana Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 Put it this way. Andreas Jakobson was better than this guy is. No way ready for PL, could use a couple of years in the DUtch League or similar...
Tom28 Posted 5 November, 2013 Share Posted 5 November, 2013 I'm pretty sure Pochettino was asked during the Stoke pre-match press conference about reports linking Saints to a defender (unnamed and position unspecified) in January and he wrote it off. Now, normally that wouldn't mean anything because he could well be keeping things quiet but there was something about his reaction that suggested they genuinely weren't looking at bringing a defender in. He looked confused by the mere suggestion.
