Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 This is not another Ramirez and Osvaldo thread! Just wandering if there have been many succesful recent transfers from Serie A to the prem?

SaintsAhoy Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Perhaps they struggle a bit in a league where match fixing is less prevalent
Crab Lungs Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 This is not another Ramirez and Osvaldo thread! Just wandering if there have been many succesful recent transfers from Serie A to the prem? Zola, Vialli, Gullit, Ravenelli and Balotelli (to an extent)... Loads of failures though; Crespo, Shevchenko, Brolin, Materazzi, Maccarrone etc etc
Saint_clark Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Flamini, Coutinho, Giaccherini, Diakite (looked decent at St Marys), Stekelenberg, Boruc, Nastasic, Chico Flores, Julio Cesar, Balotelli. All in the last few seasons.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 November, 2013 Author Posted 4 November, 2013 Not too many recent ones! Wonder why not Has there been many the other way? Prem > Italy?

Saint_clark Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 There's also a few like Vydra, Osvaldo, Lamela, Dossena who still have time to come good. Ramirez would probably be seen as a flop by fans of other clubs, although his return last season was decent enough.

JackanorySFC Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Ramirez is seen as a flop by fans of this club. Not by me or anyone near my ST seat or at Stoke on Saturday, I think he's an outstanding talent and hope he plays consistently for us, if not no bother, means the others are doing the business. Offer your opinion by all means, but don't claim to speak for all of us.
Patrick Bateman Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 suewhistle? Has she played in Italy?? Wow, didn't know that.
ottery st mary Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Still a big fan of both Osvaldo and Ramirez. Quality footballers.

suewhistle Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 (edited) Has she played in Italy?? Wow, didn't know that. You've got Turkish on ignore too? Must have. Just because Turkish _keeps_ repeating the fact doesn't mean you have to be his a***-licker. Anyway, I now play in Hants Div 3! :-) Edited 4 November, 2013 by suewhistle
suewhistle Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Bearsy, I expected more from you. There's actually intelligence underneath the exterior, and that was unworthy of you.
Bearsy Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 sorry sue! I didn't mean it to be like a nasty dig honest!
Turkish Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Suzy seems to be getting rinsed by a lot of posters, won't stop her bleating though.

suewhistle Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 sorry sue! I didn't mean it to be like a nasty dig honest! OK, it might have been funny once, but constant repetition doesn't make it funnier and smacks of playground bullying. (not particularly having a go at you there, mind...).

Certainly 'outstanding' in my opinion is stretching a point......
hypochondriac Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 Not all maybe but quite a few of which I one of the quite a few. Certainly 'outstanding' in my opinion is stretching a point...... Indeed. Quite clearly has been disappointing so far and if he left tomorrow imo would be considered a flop.
Deano6 Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 I was still in the very optimistic about Gaston camp, and believed he just hadn't been given a chance. But seeing him against Stoke on Saturday at a time when the game was screaming out for creativity and see him barely able to make a pass has seen me join the "sell him and move on" camp.
Matty's Caddy Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 He's twenty fookin two!!! Just moved to a new country. Just moved to a new club. You have to give him at least 18 months IMO. Get a grip.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 If this thread isn't about Gaston or Osvaldo should it not be moved to another part of the forum? Just a thought.
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 Not by me or anyone near my ST seat or at Stoke on Saturday, I think he's an outstanding talent and hope he plays consistently for us, if not no bother, means the others are doing the business. Offer your opinion by all means, but don't claim to speak for all of us. You ignored the statement made, you say he is an outstanding talent, I in some ways agree but that does not mean he has played well (he has not in anyway, shape or form) consistently nor does he deserve a place in the team or squad as it stands, you dont even define your own argument you simply say he is an outstanding talent, its a nothing statement.

I honestly cant make out whether this is sattire at its finest or an absolute belter of a clapper post.
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 Long sentence alert... No Jeff not at all, read again my child.

What just like Lovren who came in and started performing from day one. I'm sure we could name lots of players with the same/similar criteria who have performed for saints. Gaston has had plenty of chances and not really taken them IMO
dronskisaint Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 I honestly cant make out whether this is sattire at its finest or an absolute belter of a clapper post. Or one from a supporter? Look it up skate
Turkish Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 OK, it might have been funny once, but constant repetition doesn't make it funnier and smacks of playground bullying. (not particularly having a go at you there, mind...). Quite, so why do you mention it on every post?
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 No Jeff not at all, read again my child. What? There are no full stops in the whole statement until the end, hence a long sentence.
S-Clarke Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 He's twenty fookin two!!! Just moved to a new country. Just moved to a new club. You have to give him at least 18 months IMO. Get a grip. I agree with giving players a time, around 18 months is fair enough. The issue is that after 15 months, you'd expect him to be getting there. The reality is that he's been here almost 18 months, he is further away than he ever was from a starting place. There's nothing I would have loved more to have seen Gaston perform for us, but I can see that it's time to cut losses - and as fans we need to stop clinging onto to the ''he may come good'' line, as I'm sure we'll still be saying it in 3 years time when he's 25.

Plus it will mean the usual susects have one less thing to moan about when we are 6th in the table.
Barry Sanchez Posted 5 November, 2013 Posted 5 November, 2013 What? There are no full stops in the whole statement until the end, hence a long sentence. I think it read ok, a comma in there to break it up, the same theme and you could read it in one breath, yes ok by me my child.
