Wiggles31 Posted 3 November, 2013 Share Posted 3 November, 2013 I genuinely believe we'll be serious contenders for the 4th spot. Genuinely. The model we are implementing as a club is fantastic to be a part of as supporters. Watching our beloved club grow and turn heads across european football is magnificent. Clearly I've woken up with a Saints boner! Where do you lot see us then?
Saint Charlie Posted 3 November, 2013 Share Posted 3 November, 2013 The key will be keeping our best players. Four or five will be heavily coveted by top clubs this summer, offering CL football. Clyne, Shaw, Schneiderlin and Lovren for starters.

Getting big fees is one thing, getting a replacement of the same quality is very, very tough and getting someone better almost impossible.

If the club is truly as ambitious as it states then this will be evidence of their intent. I do trust Cortese to cross this bridge carefully though. Saint137 Posted 3 November, 2013 Share Posted 3 November, 2013 The players genuinely seem to wish to play here and believe in the strategy and style of play we've adopted. I know they can be mercenary and tempted by money but I think Cortese is pretty good at handling that. If we're good enough to challenge for top 4 then why bother moving - certainly Shaw might go to Chelsea for personal reasons and maybe Morgan will feel he needs to play on the continent to get noticed by Deschamps but I don't really see either of them moving. Fees are pointless, we have to keep hold of them, or keep the production line going. If we carry on knocking out a couple of £20m+ players a year plus one worldie every 5 years then with the amount of money the TV contract generates we become a very viable long-term investment. And when the wheels come off the TV gravy train we'll be well-placed to prosper due to the academy setup.

On this I completely agree. Look at the amount we've spent on two certain players for dubious return. Lets hope this is, and whoever looks like coming strongly through the Academy ranks, features strongly in NCs thinking if (when) he gets approaches.
