doddisalegend Posted 2 November, 2013 Posted 2 November, 2013 Apparently we are some where between a really good team:) and the poorest team to play at the Britannia Stadium this season http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/221969/christ-good
Colinjb Posted 2 November, 2013 Posted 2 November, 2013 Poorest at the Brittania this season? Well, they did get a point from us!
Saint_clark Posted 2 November, 2013 Posted 2 November, 2013 They all seem fairly complimentary bar one or two who are ridiculed by the others.
Saint Garrett Posted 2 November, 2013 Posted 2 November, 2013 (edited) They got a superb point against us today. Great result for them. I thought that Arnoutivic or whatever his name is is meant to be good. Thought he was shocking. And NZonzi is up there with Nolan on my 'biggest c*nts' list! They're a very very poor side. If the weather hadn't been like that we would have won IMO. Messy messy game. Also my first trip to Stoke. Thought the atmosphere was meant to be good?! A couple of whispers of the imaginative "c'mon Stoke" and that was about it. Is there any prem ground with an atmosphere these days apart from ours? Edited 2 November, 2013 by Saint Garrett
ExSt Peter Saint Posted 2 November, 2013 Posted 2 November, 2013 Funniest comment I heard from their fans while walking away from the ground was "Thought we played quite well today, just didn't know what to do with the ball when we had it". If that's quite well, I dread to think what they're normally like.

skintsaint Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 60% possession on their patch and we are the poorest team to play at the Britannia Stadium this season....lolz
Wes Tender Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 This is up there with the most arrogant **** I have ever read on here, now this is forum gold. It's right up there with the opinion that Norwich have showed the ambition that we lacked by buying in all those World class players instead of the dross we bought, eh, Barry?
Shroppie Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Interesting read. One or two accurate assessments mixed in with misguided arrogant dross. They were a poor team who still managed to be dangerous on the rare occasions they won the ball. We dominated midfield, won nearly every second ball and dispossessed them at will. But I did agree with the point that for all our possession and control we created few clear chances and lack the final cutting edge. If we could just get Osvaldo and Ramirez firing properly ......
suewhistle Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 "leave 'im Wes, 'es not worf it" I gave up on Barry after his gratuitously irrelevant comment and dig at me out of the blue in yesterday's match thread. I've come across plo**kers like him in real life, who think their banter is funny. Must be my upbringing, but I normally just smile and never tell them what I think, which is normally "What an utter p*****k." If they go on I tend to break this rule. I don't think much of his football comments either..

True. Barry and a couple of others have called it right, but Garret and Johnnyboys posts sum up the arrogance on here. When they've already drawn at home with man city this season describing a point at home to us as a great point for them is incredibly arrogant. Edited 3 November, 2013 by Turkish
corky morris Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 I know some of their coaching staff quite well. They said we are the best team they have played this year. What they did was press us high up the park knowing Shawcross & Huth would take Lambert. This game proves to me we need some pace.

M271 Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Interesting comment about Wanyama (the Lion Sleeps Tonight song LOL) on their Oat Cake forum and for a number of our other players: I thought the best player on the pitch was victor wanyama who broke everything up , won every loose ball and never misplaced a pass or lost a tackle. View From The Top Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Don't know what the drama queens are throwing a hissy fit about as all the Stokies I know, which is a lot considering I work in Stoke and live in Stafford, thought it a good point. Bar the first 10 & last 10 mins they thought we utterly battered them. At least I won't be getting any grief at college tomorrow.

It's the killer pass merchant we don't have and that cost mega bucks..except lambert provided once to Ramirez who was onside and it was some save from begovic. A draw was a fair result as stoke created the best chances but we controlled the game in terms of possession...

A draw was a fair result as stoke created the best chances but we controlled the game in terms of possession... Once JR was taken off Stoke pushed their back 4 up far, far higher because they knew we had nobody who would get in behind. Ramirez wasnt terrible by any stretch but him and JR are different types and we always miss Jay's pace when he isnt on the pitch. Agree re killer pass though.
Toadhall Saint Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Thought they were on the whole quite positive about us to be honest.
Jack Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Ramirez wasnt terrible by any stretch but him and JR are different types and we always miss Jay's pace when he isnt on the pitch. Agree re killer pass though. I thought he was. Came on and got dispossessed when we were committing men forward a couple of times in the first few minutes through dawdling on the ball, picked te wrong pass a few other times rather than just keeping us moving up the pitch. A couple of decent touches here and there but I thought we completely lost out attacking intent when he came on. Yes, part of that was J-Rod going off, but GR just doesn't seem to know how we want to play. There was one point he dropped off to pick up the ball, gave it short (to Morgan I think) then made a run back towards the ball out towards the right and just seemed to get in the way. Best bit of closing down I've seen from him but not really what we looking for as we were in possession. I know he's got some ability, but I just can't ever see him getting it right for us.

corky morris Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 Because its a different dynamic to what we have. When a team push up it allows us to get beyond them & when we break, we break quicker than the opposition can. Having spent quite a bit of time with various academies recently, the one thing they say they cant teach is raw pace. We dont have raw pace. Why do people harp on about pace.. We have enough pace.. It's the killer pass merchant we don't have and that cost mega bucks..except lambert provided once to Ramirez who was onside and it was some save from begovic. Saint Garrett Posted 3 November, 2013 Posted 3 November, 2013 http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/222005/james-ward-prowse Wax lyrical about our youngsters!
Tony F Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Quote: " They need better defenders and another striker option but a excellent midfield any PL team would want.... This years Swansea for me real chance to place in top 5 or 10 IMO" Hmmm... Would that comment about our defence be in any way linked to the 1st minute "freak blunder" followed by 89 minutes being pretty much watertight (again) and still only conceded 4 in 10?
The9 Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 I know some of their coaching staff quite well. They said we are the best team they have played this year. What they did was press us high up the park knowing Shawcross & Huth would take Lambert. This game proves to me we need some pace. The only thing the game proved to me was that football played in high winds with a lightweight ball is much more of a lottery than it is in good conditions. Every other game in the past 18 months has proved we need some pace.
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 I thought we were absolutely awesome. How can Stoke fans not have seen that
Window Cleaner Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 I thought we were absolutely awesome. How can Stoke fans not have seen that Probably because we don't have "propah" defenders like Shawcross and Huth who kick everything that moves and we do in fact lack a strike option, JRod did well but Lambert wasn't much threat.

TBF – during the summer the “arrogant” posters were convinced that we were super rich and every other club were completely broke. This thread is a good example of Saints fans arrogance – Stoke fans have started threads praising our players, when was the last time you saw a thread on here about an opponents player and admiration being offered?
Wes Tender Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 TBF – during the summer the “arrogant” posters were convinced that we were super rich and every other club were completely broke. This thread is a good example of Saints fans arrogance – Stoke fans have started threads praising our players, when was the last time you saw a thread on here about an opponents player and admiration being offered? Who has been a player for another team outstanding enough to warrant a thread on our forum? We readily acknowledge the contributions made by stand-out players in matches against us and also identify those who have been good buys for other teams, like Michu. If Stoke wish to praise players of ours in separate threads on their forum, then good for them. It seems that the reason they did it was because they recognised that our academy had produced some exceptional players over the past few years. But then Stoke are only talking on their forums about something that the wider media have written articles about. What is telling, is who it is that is calling it arrogant to express the opinion that we would have expected to beat Stoke. Turkish, Barry and Glasgow. Hardly the trio of posters whose opinion on such things will be taken that seriously.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Who has been a player for another team outstanding enough to warrant a thread on our forum? Off the top of my head - Nathan Redmond (Norwich), Jussi Jääskeläinen (WHU), Olsson (WBA) all played v.well against us. The fact you couldn’t think of any just supports my allegation

The fact you couldn’t think of any just supports my allegation I don't recall us having threads on any of those players. Could you please provide a link to them? Or perhaps you didn't read what I wrote correctly. I could furnish you with a very long list of players who have played well against us going back a couple of decades if I could be bothered, but I am hard pressed to remember many threads featuring any of them as the exclusive subject of the thread.

Saint Garrett Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Why do oppo players need a whole thread about the fact they have had a good game against us?! Its mentioned on all the reaction threads - not that I generally read many of them.
Wes Tender Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Think you've missed my point mate No. You're the one who has missed the point. Where are those threads on our forum about those players? And why would we have threads about those three on our forum anyway? It isn't as if they are better players than we already have here despite shining in one game against us, so from that point of view, they're unremarkable to us.

His point is those players had played well enough to warrant threads of their own in theory.
The9 Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 My point would be that you'd have to be a LOT better than any of those players were against us to merit a thread. There was one for Hazard against us last season in the match we won, and he was only on the pitch for 20 minutes. If I was a Stoke fan I'd be keen to make it clear I appreciated good footballers too.

There was one for Hazard against us last season in the match we won, and he was only on the pitch for 20 minutes. If I was a Stoke fan I'd be keen to make it clear I appreciated good footballers too. I was in the first 5-10 rows at the Britania/wind-tunnel, hammered too so I didnt form much of an understanding/view of the game. Went to the Harvester pub next door after the game, spoke to a few Stoke fans at various occasions and I found them all to be very complimentary of our performance, all saying we play really nice football. Friendly enough people too, strong Stokie accents, though I got the impression it could have 'kicked off' if a single drop of their beer was spilt! They also said the weather is terrible all the time, and they dont want to fill in the corners as it adds to the raw environment and makes it hard for visitors.
View From The Top Posted 4 November, 2013 Posted 4 November, 2013 Every single stokie I spoke today today, which was an awful lot since I teach there, was gushing in their praise, especially for our fullbacks and midfield. My LSA said that we played some of the best football through midfield that she'd seen in years.
