Stonewall pen against Shawcross late on..

Unlucky not to win this as we were clearly the better quality team even in difficult conditions !

A win v Hull next week and we are really in the top 8 mix !

COYS :)

Couldn't have said it better. A shame we didn't win but with the injury to Osvaldo we didn't have that many attacking options. We worked hard, played well in patches in very difficult conditions and I don't get how we didn't get that penalty. That is definitely not a natural position of the arm!

Southampton keeper Artur Boruc: "I don't want to remember it anymore. I blame the wind for that. I'm really sorry for my team-mates and our supporters but what can I say? What happens, happens and I need to bounce back. I promise to get those two points back.

"These kinds of things happen to goalkeepers. It has happened before and will happen again.

"That's the life of being a goalkeeper, it is not always beautiful. I look forward to the next game."

Boruc after the game.

Just got back in. Interesting comments about JWP - I thought his passing in the first half hour was poor. Freak goal, shocking conditions, decent point.

Couldn't tell if either were pens, but Saints players were absolutely convinced.

Gaston very poor when he came on.

MOM for me was Lallana.

the where clyne crossed it would have been harsh had it been given, but you see them givem.

the 2nd one was a penalty all day long. simple as that

1. I'm pretty sure that Foy was the homer POS who gave the penalty against Fox at Newcastle last year for far less than that.

2. That game made it clear, not that it was in much doubt IMO, that Ramirez is talented but far too lightweight and uncommitted for the way we play. I'm amazed that MP put him on the bench for a game at Stoke and even more amazed that he brought him on.

A very precise assessment. He will never make it in this team. We would do better to bring someone else through and give a chance to..... Again we lost our dominance when he came on, he just cannot keep

possession. I have seen more than enough of him now...

On a very positive note the conditions did not suit our game but we played well considering. On a calmer day Stoke would have been swept aside....!

Taking Rodriguez off was a bad move and released two Stoke players he kept occupied. Ramirez was ineffective and a joke. Lallana gave the ball away too often for my liking. Thought Stoke are a changed side from the time under Pullis and were unlucky not to score in the last 10 minutes. We, however, were very unlucky not to be awarded a penalty. A well earned point after a disastrous start with Bergovic's goal.

The coming 6 weeks will make or break our season and show what we are made of. Here's hoping.

We looked rattled after the goal, but regrouped and adapted. Great goal from jrod.

Started well 2nd half and were dominating until jrod came off /(or) Gaston came on, seemed odd to change it while we were so on top. Oh well lesson learnt.

Could, shoulda and on another day woulda won. Big up waynyama and JWP today, Lovren solid again

Boruc

Difficult to know how to reply to this. The wind beat the keepers on both occasions. So no I don't blame Boruc at all and JRods goal was equally lucky. Point a fair result. Stoke worked harder than most teams we've faced

I know we have progressed to another level, but I reckon we can push to another level if we can create more chances,if we had a decent attacking mid/playmaker we really could go places.

I have always hoped Gaston would come good but I am starting to get the impression he is not cut out for our style of play,he looked sluggish and poor today,I know coming on in those circumstances would be tough but he was brought on to change the game and swing it our way and if anything we looked less of a threat when he did.

JWP is going to be some player, very Beckhamesque in his delivery and if he can keep that up he will win us games with those set pieces, one thing for me that is exciting is that we are such a young squad and we will only get better,if we can keep this group of players together and fend off the interest we will no doubt attract the future at Southampton is looking promising

We showed character to come back from that freak goal, but from the sounds of it retribution was just, as Begovic was beaten by a freak goal from us too, where both keepers were deceived by bounces affected by the wind. Conditions like that don't favour the more cultured teams like us. Ultimately we can be pleased with the point, as Stoke had their chances to have scored a couple of goals except for a great save by Boruc and a miss by Shawcross which would have been easier to have buried, whereas we also had a similar bad miss and a penalty shout. Our players certainly appealed, but Solent opined that it might have come off the player's knee, which was close to his hand. Seemingly we also appealed to the ref on a few occasions where Stoke employed their usual bully boy tactics with tackles from behind which the referee didn't punish.

Tactically, I'm not convinced that Pochettino called it right, bringing off Rodrigues for Ramirez, as following the change Stoke were more threatening and Ramirez added nothing much. I am beginnig to grow more convinced with each passing match that Ramirez just doesn't bring anything extra to the team if he can't play the pressing game that we rely on. Give him a few outings in the Cup matches and see if he produces something positive, otherwise I don't see him getting into our first eleven unless he bucks up his ideas. He is a player that promised so much, but has failed to deliver so far.

At least we are a point closer to Chelsea and it is good that two other close rivals play each other tomorrow with Spurs v Everton.

A decent point, considering the nightmare start, in awful conditions. We were the better team (60% possession and more attempts on goal) and always looked more likely to win I thought. Think today goes to prove Gaston is not the answer to breaking down teams as has been suggested on here. Wouldn't mind trying Victor and Jack as the DM pair and pushing Morgan up pitch as an attacking option rather than Gaston.

All in all decent point away from home.

Back from the game. We did well today. Stoke are very much a team stuck in transition and they will be up and down for the rest of the season. The conditions didn't make for anything hit over 15 yards to be accurate, which given the workrate of both teams meant the game got very congested and messy at times.

I felt we were the more refined team, we worked the ball well but the final pass was lacking at times - as it has been at several times this season.

I was interested to see the impact Ramirez would make when he came on but his presence just disrupted stuff. We're a powerful team these days and he was not powerful enough in possession and considering the amount of men we commit forward it created a few counters for Stoke at times which felt risky.

A decent point away from home and we move onto the next game. Very encouraged by our resiliency and quality, I think we've got a good season ahead of ourselves.

You know that, many others do too. BUT, MP brought him on .... WHY ?? It may be obvious to us that he's less than effective, butis it obvious to Pochettino ?

I don't think it is

Looks like he HAS to play Cortese's £12M waste of space

Odd match, we didn't hit our stride fully today, especially in the second half. Still by far the better team and had it not been for that freak goal we should have won.

All credit to Stoke for getting into us, it seemed to have the desired effect in the closing stages. The weather conditions interfered so much though, their goal was carried by the wind, yet our equaliser looked certain to be going over until a gust held it in play allowing it to drop into the net. I've never seen four corner flags point in distinctly different directions at the same time.

Ward-Prowse was exceptional, Lambert did well leading the line. Jay and Adam looked excellent on the ball. Dejan Lovren deserves praise for being a truly imposing and dynamic presence, even breaking forward to try and keep us moving at times. Our centre midfield was left a little ragged towards the end, quite un-Saintly.

I'll take the point from a weird afternoon.

And I think he'll play even less after that. MP's a smart cookie and I don't think it will be lost on him that his presence disrupted us far more than it helped us.

I'm just shocked that he even dressed him for Stoke.

Like i said it really was an odd one, not sure if JRod had taken a knock maybe? Was a mistake and hopefully one we learn from

We've beaten Liverpool away and drawn against United away. Why shouldn't we give Arsenal a fright too?

I think we can but my biggest fear is that Walcott and Podolski will be fit because they can take Clyne and Shaw out of our forward game, which would be vary damaging to us.

If those two are still out I fancy us to get something up there.

Hope they are fit, the Arse will have to take out 2 good players to make room for them

Liverpool had nothing in midfield today, wonder how long they can persist with the ageing Gerrard and the legless Leiva.

Gives the opponents far too much time and space to manoeuvre.

Yep, they certainly would have to change a good line up to get Podolski and Walcott in, and I don't think Wenger would do it. But then I think that would give us a chance because our style would prove a much bigger handful for Arsenal than Liverpool's.

What I wouldn't give to us getting some scoring from midfielders the way Arse do.

Said this on the match thread and earlier in this thread, was a poor choice as we were dominating.

I agree. Ramirez was a decent option, although in the conditions perhaps Lee could have been given a chance. Gaston doesn't really like cold, wind and rain, does he?

But JRod was a bigger threat than Rickie - think he should have gone off as we couldn't sacrifice in defence as they still posed a threat and we needed to keep midfield dominance.

Thought it showed that the team put I. A massive effort - there were clear signs of tiring by the end.

Disappointed that we didn't get the win - might have done if the nailed-on pen had been given, but in the end a decent point and they couldn't score except with a freak 90 yard effort.

How can you say it was a nailed on pen? No one around me appealed as you simply couldn't see from the away end.
