terrypward Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Hi, Some knob from work has organised a day out on Saturday. In Winchester. Do they have the internet in central Winchester and if so will there be anywhere to watch the Stoke game? Thanks all for your help! Terry

terrypward Posted 31 October, 2013 Author Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Thank you. May have to take the iPad! It's not a proper day on the beers without an iPad.
the saint in winchester Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 TerryP, you'd be amazed the facilities we have in Winchester. We have hot and cold running water, showers, public conveniences in the city centre, coffee shops (lots of them), estate agents (even more than coffee shops), we all speak nicely and most of us shave every day. I appreciate you're not used to these advanced customs in Southampton, but why not enjoy the experience. Travel broadens the mind. Try it. the saint in winchester Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Having spent much of today in Costco in Southampton where they don't have a mobile phone signal, let alone wifi, I think the OP will enjoy the 4G on offer at most public places and may choose to journey to the County Arms Inn by the hospital which boasts large screen TV, smaller screens and even external screens in the smoking area. I cannot guarantee they will be showing games run off dodgy Iranian links, but his iPad will allow him to keep up with the scores.

I did not mean any offence to you or your city. You hear these stories in Southampton about it being grim up north and assume the worst.

I thought drinking loads of good ale, talking ******** and trying out **** chat up lines (safe in the knowledge you have a wife at home) was the way these things went now. We also get told that it is grim up north, but we understand that refers to north of Oxford.
Barry Sanchez Posted 1 November, 2013 Share Posted 1 November, 2013 Winchester is a place that reminds me of the 70's and pubs closing in the afternoon, a place where Charlotte or Henry are alternative for a year or so and then back in to the greyness of Worthy Down........................... Chorlton Posted 1 November, 2013 Share Posted 1 November, 2013 For pubs, Winchester is better than Southampton these days (in the city centre of both at least). Unfortunately, there's only a couple open after midnight. I think the Rising Sun, County Arms & Bakers Arms all show football on a Saturday afternoon
