Sour Mash Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 He will put out a team just strong enough to beat the opposition. So players like Gaston, Kelvin, Chambers, JWP and possibly Lee and Fox should all get starts. Those players aren't strong enough to beat Chelsea though? Batman Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Maybe, but at least it'd potentially be a decent away, rather than having 5k Chelsea fans at St Marys and a rerun of last season's FA Cup game. Maybe? Chelsea away is a lot harder than Chelsea at home. Definitely
Saint Charlie Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 I think we should put a second string type team out against Sunderland and then if we do get through that put a strong side out versus Chelsea.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Mopo will continue with the reserve team for the cup, it would be unfair to change that now. Plus mopo's style dictates that sacrifices must be made..... The league cup (maybe the FA cup too) is that sacrifice imho

Definitely If we don't put out a full strength team there is really little difference in it. See last season's FA Cup game.
Giordano Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 IF repeat IF we beat Sunderland then I would expect MoPo to select a similar team to play against Chelsea in the next round. Meaning KD in goal, GR, Jos, Maya, Guly, Cork, Lee, Chambers etc starting and a bench that's got Isgrove, Rowe, Stephens etc on it. The likes of MS, VW, LS and NC will be kept away from these non-critical path matches as our risk assessment suggests they are needed for the main goal - and so should not be exposed to possible injury in that bid to achieve a high level EPl placement. There is only ONE cup - and that is the Champions League Trophy. All the others in European football are virtually irrelevant nowadays. That's a shame for sure and I bitterly regret it, but its true. I doubt anyone knows who won the Italian Cup last year- or the Dutch Belgian or french equivalent, or even cares, but you know which Italian or French team is playing in the Champions league though...QED. The CC cup is how we "rest" the first team and give experience and game time to the rest of the squad. It's what the Capital Cup is used for these days by every EPL team. Look at Wigan last year if you want to see what the downsides of a full strength cup team policy is.
Saint_Tony Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Might as well play our reserves next week. Even if we win we'll be no match for Chelsea 'reserves' (featuring a load of International players and the league's best player from last season)

"EPL Placement", "non-critical path", "There is only ONE cup - and that is the Champions League Trophy" take it this is an American "Soccer" parody? They won a trophy last year. And Wigan didn't get relegated because of their cup run. They just happened to win a cup despite being dog turd. ecuk268 Posted 31 October, 2013 Share Posted 31 October, 2013 Do you think that NC will drop the ticket prices? If he doesn't and if it's on TV, I can't see us getting a full house against Chelsea Reserves. I see that Arsenal charged £10.00 for their Chelsea game and got nearly 60000.
