Herbie Taylor

Some of you may know Herbie Taylor who takes Tour parties round St Marys.

Herbie's been watching Saints since the late 40's and has a comprehensive knowledge of the Club's history. He's now 81 and intends to retire at the end of this season.

If you've never been on a tour, I would recommend one with Herbie. Even if you go to every home game, the tour is still interesting as you get to go to all the behind-the-scenes places (Board Room, Dressing Rooms, Police Cells etc).

Herbie is a master of his art so get on a tour before he retires.

Herbie on Saint's list has one minor issue with this piece. He's 83 not 81. To quote the man himself:

"When I was a youngster of just. 81 I did a Zip Wire trip high above St Mary's from the Northam Stand to the Chapel Stand for charity. I had no intention of retiring at such a young age!"

For those Saints supporters that don't know, Herbie produces what many consider the definitive match report for most (if not all) home matches at St Marys. He published this on Saintslist which is a yahoo based forum ( just google it and you will find out how to access it) and by midnight or sometimes the next day or so you get a comprehensive incredibly detailed always consistent report on the match much superior to anything elsewhere in the media or on here or the UI site. For Saints fans who cannot get to the match or who cannot watch on TV/internet or radio its the next best thing.

If I want to know about a home Saints match I check what Herb has written for corroboration and he is rarely in error. The good thing as well is that he is not only knowledgeable and passionate about Saints but that he is always fair in his opinions too. He has favorites and not so favorites but invariably calls the player and the game as he sees it without prejudice. Well worth the (free) subscribing to the SaintsList just to read what Herb writes.

I don't doubt it! :)

Shame to see that the remainder of the stadium tours with him involved are sold out.... wasn't even aware that you could have such a thing!

I know Herbie well . One of life's real gentleman . He has being talking about retiring for a while . In fact I thought he had but was asked to come back. He has done so much for fans the club people less fortunate than us like the Chernobyl kids visits

And his match reports are spot on thank goodness I'm a member of the saints list .

I salute you Sir Herbie. Was given the fan of the year award a couple of years ago. . I hope your blushing Herbie but you deserve all the praise for what you have done for the club and fans over the years .
